If flying over to Italy isn't possible on short notice but you're looking for an excellent European dining experience, then Colombini Italian Cafe and Bistro would be the perfect substitute. It's a cozy place with soft lighting, original artwork and fabulous food. We overheard another diner say to her friends that the minestrone soup was the best in SF so one of us ordered it and agreed that it was. The best part of the evening was how warm and welcome the owner, Reza, made us feel. It was our first time there and we felt like old friends by the time we left. We'll definitely be back soon!

Ate here with my hubby & college-age daughter. We are on vacation in San Fran, and made a last-minute Open Table reservation here. When we arrived, the proprietor seemed surprised when we said we had made a last-minute reservation. He was clearly not expecting us. He had us wait in the adjoining hotel lobby for about 10 minutes which was not a problem for us. As we enjoyed our meal, several parties walked in and were turned away. This restaurant is the size of a postage stamp, so make a reservation, preferably not at the last minute! The food was wonderful---one of those dining experiences for us that we will remember and will try to dine here again on another trip to San Fran.

Small neighborhood restaurant, was surprised by the number of late ( after 9pm) drop in's for dinner on a Tuesday. For the most part, the meals were solidly good although I was a little disappointed by the pasta Carbonara.......The egg seemed scrambled into the dish instead of a yolk on top that I could mix in myself and the prosciutto seemed a bit sparse.

The restaurant is attached to the Nob Hill Hotel where we spent the night. The hotel also uses the restaurant space for continental breakfast. The menu has appetizers, pastas, pizzas, and meat dishes. The host/server was accommodating about my not being able to eat certain ingredients. My pasta was tasty and my companion reported favorably on his dinner. You can tell that they Intend that the restaurant be "fancy" - gilded mirrors, etc. This would be a good place to eat if visiting St Francis Hospital, or staying at the hotel.

This a small quiet italian restaurant with great food for the price. The beer and wine list is pretty short, but for the small restaurant it made sense. It was pretty quiet empty when we arrived at 8:30 on a Friday night so we were well taken care of by our waitress who seated us immediately, took our order/answered all of questions promptly, and had our food out to use in a timely manner. Overall if you are looking for a place to get some good italian food (and were late to make a reservation) I would recommend this restaurant!

I booked this because the President of my company was coming to town, as well my boss who is a ZVP. Both love WINES and and I am a VODKA drinker. I found this place and looked intimate, yet had good rating. It was perfect, small and quaint, we had the place to ourselves. The server and the owner were AMAZING and I would surely go back. If you need a place to rent our for about 30 / 40 people this place would be great. The only draw back is parking.... Thank goodness we took a taxi, and had a car service.

We were in town for a large convention and wanted to go somewhere close to our hotel. After talking to others and consulting our concierge, we made reservations at another restaurant. However, we weren't excited about the menu -- too elaborate. We checked for recommendations through Open Table and found this gem within 7 blocks of our hotel. It's a small, quaint restaurant attached to the Nob Hill Hotel. The menu was small but concise. We each had pasta entrees and they were excellent. There was only one server, but she managed the four tables with ease. We were never left wanting for anything and we were never overly bothered. It was quite an enjoyable evening!

I used to eat here years ago and loved it, was hesitant to go back and possibly be let down but it didn't disappoint! The food was amazing, it's very small (maybe a dozen tables) so the service is great, closer quarters though so you know what your neighbor is talking about if you want to be nosey. It's well worth it and a great place to end the day.

The restaurant has a nice ambience and that's about it. It is in a quaint hotel on Nob Hill and obviously is there for the guests not locals. When SF has the best French bread going, why serve stale reheated white bread? I ordered pasta with a "light" smoked salmon cream sauce. It came with a thick congealed mess of I don't know what. The smoked salmon was cold pieces or scraps on top. Awfully! My date's pasta was some kind of marinara sauce not much better than Chef Boyardi. Will never go back when there are so many good and reasonably priced restaurants nearby.

Colombini is a cozy, little, probably the most authentic italian restaurant we have seen in the Bay Area so far. Authentic in all aspects, menue, environment and service. The menu and the wine card fit on two pages each. As we were a bunch of 7 people we got quite a junk of the offer. Not to miss is the Minestrone, the Vitello a Marsalla and the Cherry Tiramisu together with the Espresso. The place must be pretty quite, may be not with us being there, just enjoyed ourselves with wonderful food and wine. Next time we will spend the night at the Nobhill Hotel.

Our main complaint was the slow service. Yes, it was our server's first day, but it took a really long time - 25 min?- to let us know that one of the 4 entrees ordered was not available. Once the food came, it was very good. The dining room is charming.

This restaurant is in a hotel, but it isn't the hotel's business. There are only about ten tables with a small bar. My husband and I both had the Ceasar salad with was very good. I had the lasagna which was excellent and my husband had a fish dish which he enjoyed. We were the only people until another couple came in. The server was ok, but didn't do anything extra. Didn't even ask us if we wanted dessert or coffee. It just seemed odd.

I had the veal, and it was overcooked but tasted okay. My date ordered lasagna, but they ran out of the lasagna (our reservations were at 8pm when they ran out). Our server didn't clean the table or have the table set before we sat down. I had to ask for napkins, utensils, and plates. The ambiance and decor is nice, but other than that the place was average at best.

Of four entrees, three were good. One was disappointing. The restaurant is very small, with low lighting...intimate but not particularly romantic. The size of the restaurant is probably the biggest draw for me. Our biggest complaint was the long wait for our check. The waiter did not check on us, even when it was clear we were done with our food. Vehicle this may be an effort to emulate the laid back European style of dining out, it was unsuccessful here and left us feeling ignored and slightly annoyed. All in all tho, this is a good restaurant. It won't blow you away but you'll enjoy yourself.

I recommend this restaurant with hesitation only because the service was poor. It is a cute little place and the food was very good. We had the spaghetti alla carbonara and pasta putanesca, which were both tasty and had perfectly sized portions. There was one server for the entire room, and we waited almost 15 minutes to ask for our check. We felt like she was ignoring us, and then when I got up to find her, she was texting on her phone behind the counter. If you have time to wait and are looking for good food, I would give it a try, but if you will be easily annoyed, then go somewhere else.

The food was fine. A bit salty for my taste, but that's more about me than them. The service was slow and inattentive. It's a very small restaurant and they were about 2/3 full. We had tickets to a show, allowed almost 2 hours for dinner, and barely made it. Service highlights included waiting about 40 minutes between our appetizer & main course, the waiter asking us if we wanted more water, answering "yes, please" and never him never returning with that water and, the waiter then pulling the same trick with the bread. "More bread?". "Yes, please". Never returned with more bread. I'd return if I had no other plans for the evening and wasn't up to searching the neighborhood for other options.

Colombini was an accidental find. The food is consistently good. The Minestrone soup is a must. The Spinach salad is as well. Really cute restaurant and great food. The waitress seemed a bit stressed out, but it was understandable given that she was the only one working on a Saturday night. Service was slow because of it, but we didn't mind drawing the dinner out. The table next to us didn't get drinks for about 30 mins. though, and I think some other tables were a little more frustrated by the situation. Very small and cozy, so you are sitting right next to people. They could probably do with one less table. Overall though, great food, and very romantic. The wine was delicious!

Went there on a Sunday evening date. The location was fine, the ambience was nice, the food was okay. I had the salmon risotto, he had the prawns risotto. Mine was a bit undercooked, his wasn't as flavorful as it could have been. He did enjoy his wine. There was only one other couple in there when we arrived, but became more crowded as the night went on. However, the service was consistently slow. The water arrived slowly, the menus arrived slowly, the bread arrived slowly, the food arrived slowly, the check arrived slowly, the bill was settled slowly. I'm glad I tried it, but I don't think I'd go back.

This was the last night before my daughter left for two months, so we decided to do dinner out. I checked open table to see what was available for 4 people at 7 and we ended up at Colombini. The menu was appealing and we had a great variety of dishes to choose from. Honestly, between the slow service and the sub-par entrees, I would only go back for the appetizers. Honestly, I could prepare better Italian food at home and saved on the corkage fee.
