Diner Reviews
  • "Read online that they had great bruchetta....and they certainly did. Fresh ingredients; very tasty. We had the penne with sausage and the cobanarra. Both were delicious. Would go back again."

  • "in the no man's land of the tenderloin between Union square and Polk sits this nice little restaurant that is part of Nob Hill hotel good prices, good food and one of the best Tiramisus I've had -the wife liked it and she doesn't normally like Tiramisu because they are often too boozy one of the best food choices for those going to a show at the Great American Music Hall"

  • "The restaurant is very small which makes the electronic piano way too loud. It really needs to be turned down."

  • "Pasta was cooked just perfectly. I was missing the eggy fullness of the carbonara. They were out of an appetizer, a main and a wine selection for a 7:00 reservation. "

  • "Small neighborhood restaurant, was surprised by the number of late ( after 9pm) drop in's for dinner on a Tuesday. For the most part, the meals were solidly good although I was a little disappointed by the pasta Carbonara.......The egg seemed scrambled into the dish instead of a yolk on top that I could mix in myself and the prosciutto seemed a bit sparse. "

  • "The food was every bit of traditional Italian cuisine. Pasta, marinara, seafood, etc it's all great! We loved every bite of it."

  • "The restaurant is attached to the Nob Hill Hotel where we spent the night. The hotel also uses the restaurant space for continental breakfast. The menu has appetizers, pastas, pizzas, and meat dishes. The host/server was accommodating about my not being able to eat certain ingredients. My pasta was tasty and my companion reported favorably on his dinner. You can tell that they Intend that the restaurant be "fancy" - gilded mirrors, etc. This would be a good place to eat if visiting St Francis Hospital, or staying at the hotel."

  • "This a small quiet italian restaurant with great food for the price. The beer and wine list is pretty short, but for the small restaurant it made sense. It was pretty quiet empty when we arrived at 8:30 on a Friday night so we were well taken care of by our waitress who seated us immediately, took our order/answered all of questions promptly, and had our food out to use in a timely manner. Overall if you are looking for a place to get some good italian food (and were late to make a reservation) I would recommend this restaurant!"

  • "I booked this because the President of my company was coming to town, as well my boss who is a ZVP. Both love WINES and and I am a VODKA drinker. I found this place and looked intimate, yet had good rating. It was perfect, small and quaint, we had the place to ourselves. The server and the owner were AMAZING and I would surely go back. If you need a place to rent our for about 30 / 40 people this place would be great. The only draw back is parking.... Thank goodness we took a taxi, and had a car service."

  • "Food was excellent, service impeccable. Very nice small place. We found it on Opentable during RSA conference, when all tourist traps around Moscone Center were packed. Very happy!"

  • "We were in town for a large convention and wanted to go somewhere close to our hotel. After talking to others and consulting our concierge, we made reservations at another restaurant. However, we weren't excited about the menu -- too elaborate. We checked for recommendations through Open Table and found this gem within 7 blocks of our hotel. It's a small, quaint restaurant attached to the Nob Hill Hotel. The menu was small but concise. We each had pasta entrees and they were excellent. There was only one server, but she managed the four tables with ease. We were never left wanting for anything and we were never overly bothered. It was quite an enjoyable evening!"

  • "I used to eat here years ago and loved it, was hesitant to go back and possibly be let down but it didn't disappoint! The food was amazing, it's very small (maybe a dozen tables) so the service is great, closer quarters though so you know what your neighbor is talking about if you want to be nosey. It's well worth it and a great place to end the day."

  • "Only few people in the restaurant so it was very quiet. The service was too fast...."

  • "This charming little restaurant is a neighborhood gem! The food is outstanding and probably the most authentic Italian food I have tasted outside of Italy! We went to dinner with friends who stated it was the best Italian food they had eaten in San Francisco since moving there a couple of years ago."

  • "The restaurant has a nice ambience and that's about it. It is in a quaint hotel on Nob Hill and obviously is there for the guests not locals. When SF has the best French bread going, why serve stale reheated white bread? I ordered pasta with a "light" smoked salmon cream sauce. It came with a thick congealed mess of I don't know what. The smoked salmon was cold pieces or scraps on top. Awfully! My date's pasta was some kind of marinara sauce not much better than Chef Boyardi. Will never go back when there are so many good and reasonably priced restaurants nearby."

  • "Colombini is a cozy, little, probably the most authentic italian restaurant we have seen in the Bay Area so far. Authentic in all aspects, menue, environment and service. The menu and the wine card fit on two pages each. As we were a bunch of 7 people we got quite a junk of the offer. Not to miss is the Minestrone, the Vitello a Marsalla and the Cherry Tiramisu together with the Espresso. The place must be pretty quite, may be not with us being there, just enjoyed ourselves with wonderful food and wine. Next time we will spend the night at the Nobhill Hotel."

  • "Our main complaint was the slow service. Yes, it was our server's first day, but it took a really long time - 25 min?- to let us know that one of the 4 entrees ordered was not available. Once the food came, it was very good. The dining room is charming."

  • "This restaurant is in a hotel, but it isn't the hotel's business. There are only about ten tables with a small bar. My husband and I both had the Ceasar salad with was very good. I had the lasagna which was excellent and my husband had a fish dish which he enjoyed. We were the only people until another couple came in. The server was ok, but didn't do anything extra. Didn't even ask us if we wanted dessert or coffee. It just seemed odd."

  • "I had the veal, and it was overcooked but tasted okay. My date ordered lasagna, but they ran out of the lasagna (our reservations were at 8pm when they ran out). Our server didn't clean the table or have the table set before we sat down. I had to ask for napkins, utensils, and plates. The ambiance and decor is nice, but other than that the place was average at best."

  • "The room is lovely, small, with a warm feeling as a result of the peach-toned walls and partial mural. This could be a wonderful spot were it not for the careless service and mediocre food."

  • "Of four entrees, three were good. One was disappointing. The restaurant is very small, with low lighting...intimate but not particularly romantic. The size of the restaurant is probably the biggest draw for me. Our biggest complaint was the long wait for our check. The waiter did not check on us, even when it was clear we were done with our food. Vehicle this may be an effort to emulate the laid back European style of dining out, it was unsuccessful here and left us feeling ignored and slightly annoyed. All in all tho, this is a good restaurant. It won't blow you away but you'll enjoy yourself."

  • "I recommend this restaurant with hesitation only because the service was poor. It is a cute little place and the food was very good. We had the spaghetti alla carbonara and pasta putanesca, which were both tasty and had perfectly sized portions. There was one server for the entire room, and we waited almost 15 minutes to ask for our check. We felt like she was ignoring us, and then when I got up to find her, she was texting on her phone behind the counter. If you have time to wait and are looking for good food, I would give it a try, but if you will be easily annoyed, then go somewhere else."

  • "The food was fine. A bit salty for my taste, but that's more about me than them. The service was slow and inattentive. It's a very small restaurant and they were about 2/3 full. We had tickets to a show, allowed almost 2 hours for dinner, and barely made it. Service highlights included waiting about 40 minutes between our appetizer & main course, the waiter asking us if we wanted more water, answering "yes, please" and never him never returning with that water and, the waiter then pulling the same trick with the bread. "More bread?". "Yes, please". Never returned with more bread. I'd return if I had no other plans for the evening and wasn't up to searching the neighborhood for other options."

  • "We ha e bene the re bifore but out return Washington very disappointing. Service was marginal at best - food ordered got mixed up, was to long between salad and main corse was way to long. 2 in out party ordered the salmon, online to be told later that they were out (this at 6:00pm). Unfortunately, we Will not return."

  • "Food was good, but a little high priced for the quality. The service was not very attentive or responsive; felt pressured to make a quick decision, then food was slow to come out and check took forever. Wine list wasn't great"

  • "Colombini was an accidental find. The food is consistently good. The Minestrone soup is a must. The Spinach salad is as well. The real surprise is the pasta, dish tried was prepared al dente with the right blend of herbs and sauces. The owner serves you in a quiet, warm way that makes you want to come back to this romantic, little treasure."

  • "I like the intimate feel of the place. The food and service was awesome. Nice and cozy. It was my first time there and many more in the future."

  • "Really cute restaurant and great food. The waitress seemed a bit stressed out, but it was understandable given that she was the only one working on a Saturday night. Service was slow because of it, but we didn't mind drawing the dinner out. The table next to us didn't get drinks for about 30 mins. though, and I think some other tables were a little more frustrated by the situation. Very small and cozy, so you are sitting right next to people. They could probably do with one less table. Overall though, great food, and very romantic. The wine was delicious!"

  • "Went there on a Sunday evening date. The location was fine, the ambience was nice, the food was okay. I had the salmon risotto, he had the prawns risotto. Mine was a bit undercooked, his wasn't as flavorful as it could have been. He did enjoy his wine. There was only one other couple in there when we arrived, but became more crowded as the night went on. However, the service was consistently slow. The water arrived slowly, the menus arrived slowly, the bread arrived slowly, the food arrived slowly, the check arrived slowly, the bill was settled slowly. I'm glad I tried it, but I don't think I'd go back."

  • "This was the last night before my daughter left for two months, so we decided to do dinner out. I checked open table to see what was available for 4 people at 7 and we ended up at Colombini. The menu was appealing and we had a great variety of dishes to choose from. Honestly, between the slow service and the sub-par entrees, I would only go back for the appetizers. Honestly, I could prepare better Italian food at home and saved on the corkage fee."

  • "I thought I would try this place out since it's in my neighborhood, but wow is it small. There are probably about 5 or 6 tables in the whole place and it was so quiet, my girlfriend and I were having trouble speaking freely. I'm sure everyone there could here every detail of the conversation. The server, who may have also been the owner, was neither warm nor cold to us. I would think he would be thrilled to have the business since we were the 2nd table in the place. But a glass of wine or two later and we didn't care. The food was good, no complaints there. Overall it was an ok place, but there are many better Italian restaurants in SF to be bothered with this one and its luke warm welcome."
