The cocktail offerings were inventive & a nice beer selection. My husband had the sirloin which was a perfect rare with kale that was a perfect accent. I had the Cavatelli with Beef Cheek Ragoût which was good, not great. Small amount of protein, however the pasta was cooked spot on al dente. Nice touch with the muffins to to, we enjoyed them during a walk the next morning. Great service (team) without being over-bearing. An email thank you from the establishment the next day was a nice touch. Even though I was a party of one I felt welcome from the moment I walked in the door. I was sat immediately and then offered water within minutes of having been sat. I ordered a cocktail, the beef tartare, and the skate with brown butter sauce. The food was fantastic and the pacing was perfect. Menu interesting, food was uniformly very good and service very proper yet friendly. Steak tar-tare (cubed, not ground) was over-the-top excellent. Wine selections good. Very pleasant ambiance. Leisurely pace; patrons were not rushed. Noise level was low.
Few diners there at lunch each time we went. Unfortunately, while I have enjoyed it each time I went, I would not recommend it to others for lunch because it was too pricey to make it anything more than for a special occasion. It was the perfect choice. The starters we chose, Tuna Rillet and house-made liverwurst, were both wonderful, as were our main choice selections, the Nieman Ranch sirloin (a perfect medium rare, as I had ordered it) and the coffee-rubbed brisket which was, in fact, the BEST and most delicious brisket I've ever had (and I've had plenty): flavorful, fork-tender, yet pink on the inside and not overcooked. The service was professional and attentive. When we got to the door the host, Mr Mohammad, was very welcoming and very accomodating. We told him that we would be 4 people instead of two and he helped us without any problem. While we were waiting for our table, he guided us through the menu of which he had an extensive knowledge as well as some great knowledge of french wine. We have never seen a host like this anywhere, truly professional. Then at the table, our waiter Thanh was very helpful. He took great care of us and sent my wife a cake at the end of the meal. We shared 4 appetizers and all were delicious, especially the black cabbage and speck pizza. The burger was one of the most delicious burgers I've ever had and my husband's brisket melted in his mouth.
The only issue was that the service seemed to trail off at the end of our meal. After we were served our coffee and dessert our waitress seemed to disappear. We had to flag down the manager to get our check. The staff at Colicchio and Sons made my friend's birthday dinner SO memorable and SO spectacular - I have to say, it'll be hard for another restaurant to top what they did for her (and us).
And, plesae keep in mind, we weren't eating the 200 bucks per person course meal in the Dining ROom- we were merely eating a la carte in the Tap Room.
One thing I've always been very impressed with all of Colicchio's restaurants has always been their service. Food is great - hearty, AMERICAN, homey, family style meals... but the service is OUTSTANDING.
Yesterday's dinner topped it all. We were not rushed the staff was very friendly. It is a large area that allows everyone a great seat. Quiet enough to hear the conversations at your table but just the perfect amount of back ground noise you don't hear neighboring tables. Something on the menu for everyone.
