Just casual enough that we didn't feel like we were out of place, and gourmet enough to have some excellent food options. Colicchio's never disappoints. Our world traveled cousins couldn't stop raving about their dining experience. They wanted somewhere " casual with a New York vibe" so we chose the Tap Room. The tap room menu was limited, yet still enticing. We started off with some oysters and a charred tuna appetizer. The oysters were super fresh and the vinegar "concoction" truly brought out the freshness. The tuna was equally delicious and the presentation was clean and elegant. For our main course, my date had the Skate with Brown Butter, Capers & Market Cauliflower. I had the Loup De Mer with Carrots, Soubise & Snap Pea Slaw. This European seabass was very succulent. For dessert we enjoyed the warm chocolate cake - brilliant! The wine and beer list are both excellent easy to pair an excellent bottle without breaking the bank - but you could if you wanted. Service was great from start to finish - timing and knowledge were both well done. A very cool room - nice big floor to ceiling windows - elegant, but modern and casual at the same time. It was stinking hot and humid when we went so I was dressed very casually (shorts) and that wasn't an issue. Generally the vibe was more elegant than your local neighborhood gem, but much more casual than white table-cloth. We also got a lovely muffin in a care package to-go at the end, which we enjoyed the next morning. It was more than compensated by an apology (not really necessary in my view) and an additional complementary dessert course. We went for my mother-in-laws birthday and had a wonderful time. We started with some cocktails that were just fabulous! The service was impeccable! We each got an appetizer and each were cooked to perfection. the salad was fresh and dressed well. The dinner was outstanding. I had the skate, which was perfectly cooked and not too salty (lots of times it can end up too salty!) Nothing over the top and I didn't walk out stuffed. the portions were just the right size and everything was flavored well. The service was perfunctory; almost as though the wait staff was in training. They asked the right questions but didn't listen or follow up. A group of 3 ordered brunch and lunch options with a beef tartare appetizer along with a couple of specialty drinks and a couple mimosa. Only complaint was the tomatillo bloody mary was unpalatable. Nothing was really special by any means. If this were a dive bar offering these items I would say it was a dive bar with very good taste, but as a fine dining establishment I would say the food was pretty good, but really not special by any means. The cocktail offerings were inventive & a nice beer selection. My husband had the sirloin which was a perfect rare with kale that was a perfect accent. I had the Cavatelli with Beef Cheek Ragoût which was good, not great. Small amount of protein, however the pasta was cooked spot on al dente. Nice touch with the muffins to to, we enjoyed them during a walk the next morning. Great service (team) without being over-bearing. An email thank you from the establishment the next day was a nice touch. Menu interesting, food was uniformly very good and service very proper yet friendly. Steak tar-tare (cubed, not ground) was over-the-top excellent. Wine selections good. Very pleasant ambiance. Few diners there at lunch each time we went. Unfortunately, while I have enjoyed it each time I went, I would not recommend it to others for lunch because it was too pricey to make it anything more than for a special occasion. It was the perfect choice. The starters we chose, Tuna Rillet and house-made liverwurst, were both wonderful, as were our main choice selections, the Nieman Ranch sirloin (a perfect medium rare, as I had ordered it) and the coffee-rubbed brisket which was, in fact, the BEST and most delicious brisket I've ever had (and I've had plenty): flavorful, fork-tender, yet pink on the inside and not overcooked. The service was professional and attentive. When we got to the door the host, Mr Mohammad, was very welcoming and very accomodating. We told him that we would be 4 people instead of two and he helped us without any problem. While we were waiting for our table, he guided us through the menu of which he had an extensive knowledge as well as some great knowledge of french wine. We have never seen a host like this anywhere, truly professional. Then at the table, our waiter Thanh was very helpful. He took great care of us and sent my wife a cake at the end of the meal. We shared 4 appetizers and all were delicious, especially the black cabbage and speck pizza. The burger was one of the most delicious burgers I've ever had and my husband's brisket melted in his mouth.
The only issue was that the service seemed to trail off at the end of our meal. After we were served our coffee and dessert our waitress seemed to disappear. We had to flag down the manager to get our check.
