  • Not recommended for Thanksgiving dinner

This review is limited to the 2014 Thanksgiving dinner. I usually like this restaurant very much, but the Thanksgiving prefix dinner was such a disappointment, and it was one of the most over-priced meal I've ever had. Appetizer was not appetizing, turkey was dry, and gravy was burnt and bitter. Pasta was OK, and it is sad that they did not have pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving dessert. I tried apple tart, which was just ok, and not something that you would like to have again. I felt I was eating at a different restaurant. When we saw $135 per person offer, we thought it should be a good deal based on our past experiences with this restaurant, but it was not worth at all. I will never go back at least for any event dinner. Only the service was as good as usual.

I was looking for a last min dinner spot. Most of my Usual go to spots were booked. After searching for a place that I felt would be suitable I came upon this place. I was nervous as I always am to try new places but I had the most wonderful experience. From the staff to the vibes. The food was delicious. Every bite every was flavorful. I would come back and recommend it as well.

The prices are on the high side, which would have been ok except the food did not match the price. The pacing was a total disaster in that the 2nd course arrived barely a minute after the first course plates were removed. Two of the second course dishes were supposed to be hot but were barely even warm, which for pasta is unacceptable. It was clear that they had sat, and so they were prepared way too early indicating a lack of communication between the dining room and the kitchen. For these prices that is unacceptable. We will not return to the main dining room. There are too many other choices that have better food and better value.

We just spent a lovely evening with friends at Colicchio & Sons celebrating my wife's birthday. The service was professional and welcoming from beginning to end. We ordered the 4 course tasting menu for the table and had an exceptional meal. The waiter described the menu as a sampling of chef's "greatest hits" and that seems about right. The grilled octopus was sensational, the pasta exceptional, and even though we eat beef rarely, the sirloin was the kind of dish worth making the exception for. Of course, they treated the celebration with quiet elegance, greeting my wife by name, customizing our menus and providing the kind of extra care that keeps bringing us back.

We recently had dinner at Colicchio & Sons main dining room with friends from out of town and had an amazing dining experience! Everything from the food, service, ambience, wine list, and bar were AMAZING. I looked up some reviews on line prior to our visit to make sure this was a good location and at first glance the menu seemed a little intimidating for folks that love food but are not foodies, but the reviews were positive and so interesting that we had to check it out for ourselves. The food was all excellent and the amuse-bouche was an added bonus! Then there was the service! Did I mention the service? Our server was professional, friendly but not too chatty and the staff that worked with her also deserve a big shout out. We especially enjoyed when they brought out all of our courses in unison. The entire staff helped make our dining experience so unique I was left wondering.....is this what it's like to dine like royalty?

I'm a big fan of Craft so I was easily swayed to try this sister restaurant. Well I must say that the food was delicious and the service was impeccable. I had mentioned to the restaurant that I was dining to celebrate my anniversary and they had some unique and nice touches throughout the evening during dinner. The wait staff was very knowledgeable and there was a rehearsed synchronization among the wait staff which was very impressive. Favorite dish- duck breast by far.

No matter how many times we come to Colicchio and Sons, we are always so taken by how we are treated by the staff, how the food is outstanding, how one is made to feel they are at home and as comfortable as one could ever be in any setting. This time they outdid themselves. My only brother, who I haven't seen for many years, came in for a visit from Florida, and I made a reservation and left word that it was a special occasion. My brother arrived before we did, and the staff made him feel so welcome as if he was a "regular" customer, that he was expected and he was so surprised and pleased. Our dinner was so amazingly put together and tasty and the wine list was just heaven in heaven ( especially a 1976 very reasonably priced Barolo!). My brother and his wife stated they never had such a wonderful meal and dining experience. They seriously considered coming back to New York more frequently so they could dine again at the restaurant. Thank you all for being outstanding as usual.

What an amazing experience! We went for my boyfriend's birthday. I have one of those annoying lists of allergies that makes you feel so high maintenance you want to crawl under a table. I noted them in my OpenTable reservation and the kitchen prepared everything especially to accommodate me without me having to say a word. Not to mention, even the food that was everything-free was DELICIOUS. And my boyfriend savored every bite of his "everything goes" meal. The menu is simply extraordinary. Still, it is really a toss-up to know which was better -- the food or the service. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. One server noticed I was cold and brought me a cashmere pashmina to borrow. We were here once about 3 or 4 years ago and had an equally remarkable meal and experience. We've eaten all over the world at some of the best restaurants and this is absolutely a top 5 choice (and more likely a top 2). This is easily our new favorite NYC restaurant.

We had a great experience, commencing even before arrival as we were delayed and they graciously adjusted our reservation. The bar scene at the entrance is hopping, but our table in the main dining room was quiet, with plenty of space between tables. A large picture window looks out on a park, traffic and the Hudson - very NYC. The menu selections are fascinating but not crazy, and they are very flexible about mixing and matching courses to suit your tastes. Servers are abundant, attentive, smart and friendly with a good sense of humor thrown in. We especially loved our Sommelier who made great suggestions, gave us a tour of some surprising new selections, and generally made our evening. Be sure to try the Mustard Ice Cream! From start to finish a delightful evening.

We had a wonderful dinner here celebrating my daughter's 25th birthday. From the moment we walked through the door, we were attended to appropriately. Our table was ready at the time of our reservation, we were seated and greeted by our waitress, and we were never looking for someone to fill our glasses, bring the next course, or explain what we were eating. Flawless service. The food was all prepared well. It was interesting without being weird, and was tasty and attractively presented. We are looking forward to coming back with my husband and other daughter.

Colicchio & Sons definitely deserves all the accolades it has received. The main dining room is elegant, but, comfortable. The service is impecible and very accommodating. The appetizers and main course are delicious, but, definitely more tastings than full courses. The somewhat limited nature of the menu directs you more towards the pre-fixed menus which can be fairly pricey. This is a place for food lovers and those seeking a special occasion dinner.

We go back to Colicchio and Sons over and over because it's one of the best dining experiences we've ever had. It's the perfect balance of all aspects what you want in a restaurant; cool and classic; the service is first rate but not stuffy; the room is spacious and quiet enough to have a conversation but has enough banter to be lively; and best of all, the food is so exciting you can't wait to see what is coming next. Once you experience this place you'll understand very clearly why it's the #1 restaurant in New York City.

Great discovery in Meatpacking district! Finally a place where we can talk and have great quality food. The attention to the details was impressive. The chef was sending amuse-bouche during courses which were all very original. The restaurant knew it was the birthday of two people on the table so they even printed "Happy Double Birthday" on the menu! It is rare to find a place like this in that area... We each had the chefs seasonal and at first we thought there might be too much food but each course is perfectly portioned so at the end we were pleasantly satisfied - not too full and not really wanting any more - and each course was amazing and unique! The dining room is hip, comfortable, and the tables are well-spaced. There is a sophisticated 7-course seasonal tasting menu, a 4-course prix fixe menu plus the option of going a la carte. We opted for the 4-course and unlike some restaurants, they allowed us to make a substitution. Several unannounced "amuse bouches" were included plus tiny candies following dessert. The wine list was extensive and the service was impeccable. When they called to confirm our reservation they inquired whether we were celebrating and we said we were. Consequently, our menus were personalized with "Happy Birthday" and our names. We were also brought a complimentary dessert with a candle. Hardly cheap, but it's NYC and for a special occasion...

This dinner set a personal record for extra amuse bouche and palate cleansers, all of which were actually outstanding. In some restaurants these seem to be the chef's little experiments, but here they were already perfected and fit well into the meal. Not everything was perfect - the risotto was a bit too salty - but the duck and loup de mer were outstanding. The donut dessert did not live up to expectations - in what sense were those really donuts? - but since we shared one dessert, maybe we just picked the wrong one. The only reason the service did not rate outstanding was that the waiters were a bit too intrusive in seeking our feedback on the experience ("How are the first few bites of your main course" is an actual direct quote).
