We shared hashbrowns and asparagus, both outstanding. He ordered NY strip, and I ordered ribeye. Meat was a bit dry and not that flavorful. My cut was also a strip steak, just a little smaller. It was NOT a ribeye. We expected better, having read such great reviews. The service was outstanding, and the timing was beautiful (didn't feel rushed.) The staff is professional, highly efficient, courteous and friendly. It's not too often that we go out for a dining experience that has no negative moments, but this was one of those times. Our steaks were done perfectly & sides were some of the best we've had - recommend hash browns & onions and sweet corn. Many on our table planned to share salads and steaks and our server was gracious about it - arranged to have our salads plated individually and offered additional plates to share steaks. But even better than the food was the service, genuine and unassuming.
Corkage is reasonable, $25.00/bottle. In fact, they'll waive a corkage for every bottle of wine you order from them. WELL worth it - they have many reasonable wines on their list. The wine list is extensive, broad price-point, and largely local. Did not find the two sides selected to be a good choice, which reduced the food experience for me. The mushrooms were served in an intense brown sauce that completely overpowered the mushrooms and did not allow for a contrast, in fact over powered the excellent meat. The butter lettuce with sunflower dressing was totally over dressed. I should have returned it and asked for the dressing on the side. While waiting for our table, the bar service and the drinks were excellent. We were seated right on time. Our waiter was knowledgable, friendly and really did a great job. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and tasted as good as any steak house we could ever hoped to find. And for once, there was a "real" desert menu. The so called "national steak house" chains cannot come close to the quality of the food and certainly not to the superb service. No surprises -- good steaks, sides, wine list, etc. The atmosphere will never be confused with Ruth's Chris -- it's in a hipper, retro older style building. My preference in steakhouses is to bring all steaks out on a sizzler or very hot inner plate. But the entire time we were waiting around for our "reserved" table, the lady at the front treated us like we were nothing. No apology that the table was not ready, no communication as to what was going on. We finally felt like we were valued guests when a gentleman in the suit came over to our table to thank us for our patience. The waiter was great with description of all of the specials. The way he talks about each dish / food was mouth watering and made us want to order one of each... The atmosphere is casual yet classy, and the restaurant itself is actually quite large. The wait staff was courteous and attentive, but the real stars of the show were the wondeful smells emanting from the open kitchen downstairs (along with the food that followed). We started with shrimp coktail for all six of us, and the preparation (just lightly charred and seasoned) was superb.
