Diner Reviews
  • "We love the food here. I love the Lexingtonian signature drink. The wedge is fabulous. Tonight the beef shoulder with lump crabmeat was outstanding! The Italian creme cake with a candle made my birthday!"

  • "The Beef Shoulder is my go to meal here. Perfect each time I have had it. Cole is consistent in his food preparation and the presentation is top notch."

  • "We celebrate our birthdays. We were very please with the food, service and anbiance,."

  • "Another fabulous evening at Coles! Such a diverse menu that it is always hard to choose, but we are never disappointed. Note to self...on a Saturday night, you might want to request a table to the side because it can get a little loud in the center of the dining room."

  • "I chose Coles with no personal recommendations, just from the reviews on Open Table. We were in town for a concert and decided to come early for dinner. We were very pleased with our choice! The food was good, and our server, Haylee, was great. My husband said his bone-in pork chop (a special) was the best he'd ever had, and he's hard to please. He liked the wedge salad too. My butternut squash stew was great, and the roasted beet goat cheese salad I started with was tasty, but sorely lacking in beets. They were not more than a garnish. All in all, a very pleasant dinner. We'll be back I'm sure!"

  • "We often entertain out of town visiting guests, mix them with our local friends, and have a wonderful evening with lively conversation and fabulous food and drink! Another plus is that you are located in our "neighborhood." We'll keep returning!"

  • "Entrees, appetizers, salads, and desserts, a great selection for sure. I can't however recommend the entrée my husband ordered, the beef shoulder tender was flavorless and a real disappointment for a beef lover. My chicken breast entrée couldn't have been better, perfectly cooked and seasoned, flavorful and still juicy!"

  • "We dined early (6:00 PM) on a Thursday. They began filling up quickly around 7:00 PM. The food was great, servers where knowledgeable and accommodated a food allergy in our group. The menu was heavy with fish and seafood options. There was a lack of vegetable options. The entree portions where large and very good. We will most likely leave the younger kids at home next time."

  • "I truly enjoy this restaurant. The food is consistently superb. I had the walleye special - it should be a keeper on the menu. This time I tried the beet and goat cheese salad - very tasty but I love beets and wished for more. My friend had shrimp and grits - what a presentation! Large shrimp standing up on a square of grits. He said it was great. The service remains attentive. Wait staff work as a team, and a (presumed) manager always stops by to ask how things are."

  • "Coles always gets every detail right! Delicious, imaginative, local whenever possible. My favorite Lexington restaurant."

  • "The variations of the menu; consistently well-prepared; service shines above everyone else."

  • "This was my second visit and the food is consistently great. Returning next week with an out-of-town guest. Panko fried avocado with crab appetizer is the best. Pairing of ingredients in many dishes is innovative. Our waiter offered a special nonalcoholic drink for our friend recovering from a migraine - it really worked for her! Italian cream cake, nutella cheesecake, and bourbon creme brulee are winners. One main server but several circulated to ask how our dining experience was. Restaurant staff work well as a team. Recommend reservations since the room was packed on both weeknights."

  • "We dined with friends before a concert at the Opera House. We had reservations and were seated on time, water glasses filled and drink orders taken. We tried three of the daily specials - entree, appetizer and soup - all were perfect and left us wanting more. Three of us ordered salads and all looked and tasted great. Coles is a good spot for dinner or drinks and a light meal."

  • "My first trip to Coles (had dined in this the location previously). Tastefully redecorated open-room ambience - warm and welcoming - Care given to keep the volume of joyful patrons under control (very loud before!). Waiter was knowledgeable and attentive - allowing the right amount of time to enjoy our meal and conversation. Everything was prepared and presented with class: Crispy and creamy Baked Brie appetizer - incredible Farro Currant salad - Sauteed Chicken Breast and two vegetarian items - hard to find tasty vegetarian items in a meat loving world!) The price of our meal may prevent me from coming back too soon - but for an intimate date, a couples evening, family gathering, or to entertain guests and clients - I'd chose Coles again."

  • "We will certainly return to Cole's. The menu is very interesting, so hard to choose. Luckily we had a waiter who could help with that. I had the brussel sprout salad to start and the tuna for a main. Both were lovely, but the pairing of the pasta with the tuna was not my favorite---would have prefered a more lemony sauce, perhaps. My husband had the fried avocado with crab to start (excellent) and the asian ribs with macaroni and cheese. The latter had an asian chili paste ingredient which added depth, but only a moderate heat to the dish. Inventive! Finally a maple and bourbon creme brulee finished the evening."

  • "This place was on of the best romantic restaurant in Lexington. And wow was the food good it was crazy good a very talented chef. We had great service and great food. Not to expensive for a really great restaurant. Be back for often to try more stuff on the menu."

  • "Beautiful, creative, tasty dishes and attentive (but not intrusive) service. Shrimp and grits really stood out for us; the dessert list is not as interesting as everything else and could be improved, but overall they are doing a very good job!"

  • "This great place hosts specials, not found on the menu. You'll find food for everyone, steaks, chicken, seafood, and the like. We were there on a Monday evening, and the place was packed. I'd recommend a reservation. They do have a patio, but it was not in use the evening we were there. The food was excellent, as well as the service. We will return."

  • "Quality & Creativity most unexpected for Lexington. The DR was charming. The service was flawless. The menu was alluring. And my dinner exceeded my expectations for presentation, taste, and freshness. The combinations of ingredients were unusual and really made the dining experience special. I'm still talking about it to friends and I will be back!"

  • "We're not sure why we hadn't found 735 Main before, given that we've visited Lexington quite frequently in recent years due to UK, EKU, and family connections. However, we were pleasantly surprised by this outstanding dining venue. Both of our entrees, my Bouilabaisse and my wife's fresh trout, were excellent. And the key lime pie was the best we've had outside of Naples, FL!"

  • "Large menu selection. Wait staff on the ball. Large wine and bourbon selection . Been 7 times food has great flavor!"

  • "We dined at Cole's with friends celebrating special occasions. Jordon, our server, was very attentive, knowledgeable and personable. All in our party raved about the entrees, though the trout was slightly over-cooked. The chef uses creativity and skill to create each item on the menu. My husband is fussy about his martini; he praised the bar service. The key lime pie was the best I've ever eaten in a restaurant -- light, yet with full lime flavor. We highly recommend."

  • "This was our first visit to Coles and we were not disappointed! Staff was very friendly and helpful. Food was very good and the Italian Cream Cake alone would make the trip worthwhile."

  • "We frequent Coles and love the restaurant. We had horrible service on a Wed night. Our waiter is always very good, but he had too many tables. Bottle of wine timely, but wanted glass of Proseco during appetizers….did not arrive until after we finished appetizers. Not up to par! Will stick to Andy at the bar and not invite guests for awhile."

  • "The food was wonderful their avacado appetizer is crispy on the outsite, creamy on the inside, over all yummy. I had shrimp and grits which was beautiful in it's presentation and very delicious. My husband had the bone in filet which was a special, I tried it as well and it was melt in your mouth perfect. We had a party of 7 and everyone was happy with their meal. No disappointments here."

  • "We were up from Knoxville for the races and reserved this based on other reviews. My wife had the bone in filet and thought it was probably the best steak she had ever eaten. I had a generous portion of duck breast atop Okinawan sweet potatoes which was delectable. Nice wine list. Great service and attentive and involved management. We loved it and will be back for more Than! By the way, I had asked for a romantic table for two on Open Table and that's exactly what we got. Thanks for a great experience."

  • "What a great find, the food was out of this world. We decided to try the neef shoulder and Ny strip, both were cooked to perfection! The Panko fried alvacado appatiezer is a must try and we had the pineapple upside down cake for dessert that was a special that night. In a town with few "great" dining experiences, Coles is right at the top."
