Diner Reviews
  • "Having heard mixed reviews, but being impressed by the menu; it was my choice for my birthday dinner. Everything was really very good with two exceptions. The noise level was a little loud I think due to the closeness of the tables. Also, some of the portion sizes were a little on the small size especially for a man. That said, I most definitely go back."

  • "The food was excellent. However was unable see the food due to poor lighting. It is disconcerting to not be able to see what you are eating. The four of us of varying ages all had the same problem."

  • "As northern California foodies, we always look for well crafted food both representing the region as well as highlight high local ingredients. Coles does both well. The only item slightly off was the pork belly. To be fair, we do not like highly salted foods and Kentucky pork and hams tend to be salted more than what we are used to. Our waiter was FABULOUS! He could train waiters in our area and Sonoma County is know for its restaurants."

  • "I had no idea that Lexington had such a quaint little restaurant with such good food. The service was prompt, courteous and friendly. It was our first time to eat there and we will definitely be back. I had the trout special and it was delicious. My husband said the salmon and sides complemented perfectly. Everyone in our party enjoyed their dinner and the cozy atmosphere. The pinot wine was smooth and good."

  • "We are recent transplants from Colo. and had company visiting for a long weekend and decided to try Cole's. We had read good things and decided to make reservations for Sat night at 6pm. Initial impressions were mainly regarding the charm of the interior along with the wide variety of food on the menu. We had a vegetarian and another following a heart healthy diet and were pleased there were many choices for all of us. Our server, Brian, made several terrific suggestions regarding drink selections, regular and special offerings on the dinner menu. The grilled ceasar salad was prepared just right, and the presentation of the entrees was stunning - in particular the shrimp and grits. Two thumbs up for Cole's - we will be back!"

  • "A true roll of Tums experience. I can still taste the old grease that they fried the grits in (yes fried). I had heartburn for days. Poor service, very expensive (particularly for the quality & portion), Have tried Coles several times and get the same consistant result poor. Last time for me even if it is a very convenvient location"

  • "Easy parking, great atmosphere , experienced server, best food in town consistently, beautifully presented. I would highly recommend it! Be sure to try the fried avocado and crab and shrink and grits!"

  • "A really nice, reasonably priced restaurant. Good menu. Appetizer and entrees were fresh and extremely tasty. Service was excellent - would certainly visit again if in the area."

  • "Great as usual! Steak for me and fish choices for my wife. Also, when I ordered something not on the menu they prepared it anyhow."

  • "We chose Coles for our 45th anniversary dinner. Another couple joined us. Service was prompt, efficient, and friendly. One member of our party dropped a glass of water and the staff took care of everything - including replacing the meal - very promptly and courteously. It was an impressive team effort. All of the meals were excellent. The filet is the best in town. When the server learned that it was our anniversary, he brought a complimentary cheesecake dessert for the table. Overall, it was an excellent experience."

  • "Since my husband and I prefer vegan it is hard to find a restaurant that has suitable offerings on their menu. Coles has two. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the evening's specials, the food is very good and it is clear that the standards for everything here are very high. My only comment is that between courses there is little time to savor what we had just eaten because the next course arrives immediately. We were there for our 48th wedding anniversary and when the waiter saw us opening cards he wondered if it was a special occasion for us. As a result we were given a small bottle of champagne and a dessert of the waiter's choice to share, a lovely gesture. It is hard to find fault at Coles."

  • "Bourbon cocktail was terrific. Diver scallops with chorizo and gnocchi was not a good combination in this diner's opinion. Tomato salad was over priced."

  • "My husband and I chose to celebrate a special birthday with 2 of our friends. We were greeted and shown to our table. My husband had made the reservation on line because of Labor Day! When you look at their website, it says to choose a table, so we assumed the picture of the table shown was going to be ours! We were wrong! Once we voiced that we thought we were getting a window table, we were informed that they were reserved! We ordered drinks which were great! The Cosmo was superb! The salads were good and the meal was fine! Our service was excellent once we settled in! Another friend had made arrangements for 2 birthday surprises! Our waitress presented both of them at separate times throughout the evening! We will be back!"

  • "In the midst of a din of a full restaurant, we managed to tolerate the dismal service to get to the excellent food. I had Filet Oscar (excellent) and that made the cacophony worth tolerating. Dinner for 4 was $242, with a total of 5-6 drinks (total for the whole table for the evening. You must get a res on about tuesday and no later to get a reasonable dining hour on Friday and Saturday."

  • "A group of four of us ventured to Coles 735 Main for a birthday dinner, and the food did not disappoint. I was a little concerned at how close the tables were at first, but it didn't seem overly loud during the meal. Waitress was excellent and food was delicious! Highly Recommend."

  • "I was visiting Lexington for the first time and am so glad I booked Coles 735 for a reunion with a foodie friend. The red snapper preparation was the best I can remember."

  • "This was our first visit to Coles 735 Main. We were greeted warmly and immediately shown to our table. The restaurant is charming - set in an old house and decorated with a feeling of home. Our waitress was knowledgeable and made informed suggestions which we accepted without disappointment. Panko crusted avocado with crab salad an Brie in phyllo were delicious. Our party of four each chose different entres. Each one was delicious. My grouper was light, but full of a variety of flavors. The potatoes under the chicken was a complimentary flavor to the meat. The sweetness of the coating on the duck was welcomed by my daughter. Finally the sirloin my husband had was cooked perfectly; really it was too much meat! No complaints."

  • "The menu choices are broad, and require much thought in order to decide that which to eat. The food is top notch. The wine choices are adequate and offer decent value. The service is well-trained and professional. Because of the size of the restaurant and popularity, it is often crowded, and if you sit next to a festive table, their noise will spill over into your table."

  • "Fresh, locally-sourced ingredients presented in delicious and unique ways. The heirloom tomato salad special was fantastic with the unexpected but memorable toasted Macadamias. The shrimp and grits were savory but I really prefer the creamy grits over polenta cakes. Blueberry streusel cheesecake was incredible. Service was lovely and attentive as usual!"

  • "We elected to try Cole's for my birthday. While I was satisfied with my trout entgree, my husband was less than pleased with his TWO tries of entrees. The pastrami short ribs did not live up to its description, while the beef shoulder was OK, but not at the price. We will probably not come back. Disappointed."

  • "Without question, Cole's is one of my favorite restaurants in and out of Lexington. On this occasion, my husband's colleague was staying with us as he began his preparations to move here from Greece. When we were in Greece, he had introduced us to the wonders of Greek cuisine, and we wanted to offer him the best of the Bluegrass. Once again, our experience was extraordinary on all levels. AND the Lexingtonian cocktail is delicious."

  • "This place is awesome. The service is great, they go out of their way to make your meal exactly like you want it, making substitutions and what not. It is a bit on the expensive side, but worth it. The NY strip is the best steak I've ever had (though I havent eaten more than a dozen places)."

  • "The food was excellent, with a regular dinner menu and an intriguing Bar Bites menu for lighter fares (although I did have to ask for it). The service was friendly, attentive, and professional. I will definitely be back! The decor could be immproved upon... I say keep the mural paintings and loose the supposed "French" decor."

  • "My husband and I love Coles! The fried avocado and crab starter is a must! The steak is the best in town! The desserts are always on point! I've always had the luck of sitting in Larry's section and he is amazing!"
