A word from Coldwater Cafe & Catering
This restaurant housed in a former bank building in the heart of downtown Tipp City offers quality dining in a small-town setting. The decor is warm and welcoming and is a delight for the senses. The fireplace creates a cozy atmosphere while the full bar allows patrons a relaxing stop while awaiting a fabulous meal. The inviting atmosphere encourages relaxed conversation. You may be surprised to find that a restaurant in such a small town has some rather sophisticated choices on the menu alongside your more normal fare, with entrees such as ostrich being offered. If you are looking for a decadent dessert, look no further than the butter-drenched English Tea Cake! An easy drive from all points in the Dayton area, words cannot do it justice. A visit is a must and will be the first of many.

Reservations accepted for dinner only.

Diner Reviews
  • "This is one of the best places to eat in the Miami Valley. The different Meats are Outstanding. It was my Wife's Birthday, so when they found out She got a real nice Desert. "

  • "This is the ideal restaurant - charming surroundings, gracious staff, and out-of -this-world culinary treats. From the home made soups to the in-house dessert creations, this restaurant is always consistent yet creative. And the music in the bar on Friday and Saturday nights makes you feel you are in a sophisticated establishment. We are very fortunate to have a restaurant of this quality in the Dayton area."

  • "Coldwater Cafe ranks among my all time favorites, the fish specials are always spot on (pricey, but worth it). I opted for the shrimp and brie pasta dish and the mussels to start. Outstanding."

  • "We've enjoyed Coldwater Cafe many times. It's our first choice for special dining."

  • "Both our meals were superb in taste and presentation. Service was excellent and the server was very knowledgeable about the menu. The choice of alcoholic beverages (beer and wine) was excellent. We make dining at Coldwater an annual event for our anniversary and try to get there several other times during the year."

  • "The Coldwater Cafe was surprising in several good ways in tiny little Tipp City, Ohio. First, outside-the-box entrees like ostrich and Wagu Beef and then, dining in what was once the vault of the Tipp City National Bank. We had reservations and were seated within a few minutes of arrival. Ity wasn't obvious we were in the former bank's vault - seems like the restaurant owners weren't sure what to do with the diea, so lots of monetary and historical bank items decorate the walls. Too bad about the faux drop ceiling. Our server was attentive, but didn't wow us. What she may have lacked, the dinner more than made up for. And the desserts (I had the house flagship tea cake, my wife had the carrot cake) were spectacular."

  • "We had a special event to celebrate with someone we did not know well. Could not have found a better place for conversation and a relaxed environment. It was a memorable evening."

  • "Food was goodt but think the menu is limited. Daily specials supplement it, but still not enough variety. Service was somewhat slow even though not a particularly busy night. ."

  • "My party of 4 visited on a Friday night. Atmosphere wonderful, service awesome, but the star of Cold Water is the food. We began with Mussels (to-die-for), shrimp cocktail, and a bottle of the house wine that night. What a way to begin! When our food came (We each ordered a variety of fish: Salmon, Sea Bass, Tilipila, and Crab Cakes which we shared), not one of us was disappointed. Fish was done just right and the sides were outstanding. Our only collective regret was that we didn't have several more people in our party so we could have ordered two of the fabulous-sounding specials. We finished with desert (Peanut butter pie, Bread pudding) and wow what a treat. If you go, save room for desert (they're easily split among several people)."

  • "Food was excellent as always. Espresso was only warm, not hot. Normally service here is excellent. This night it was only fair."

  • "Outstanding food and service! Everyone was very friendly!! This is by far my favorite restaurant."

  • "Everything was perfect. The food was awesome with perfect portions. The customer service was top notch. The prices are a little high, but every aspect of the meal was great."

  • "We loved the iPad wine list with extensive information about each wine but still had questions so the sommelier assisted us most graciously to pick out a bottle of red we had never tried but were happy to discover. Salads were extremely fresh--little glass carafe of olive oil and balsamic vinegar was nice touch. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his local ribeye and unusual mashed potatoes--fried for a little crunch on the outside. My roast duck was done to a "T" along with the roasted potatoes. Server graciously swapped out Asian chili sauce for a cherry-wine sauce. Desserts (chocolate torte, hot fudge pecan ball) were, as all Dayton agrees, divine! All in a renovated 19th century bank, complete with vault and board room (for dining)."

  • "I love the ambience of this place, fireplace, music and service is what keeps us coming back! I love the shrimp & bri pasta and my husband gets the filet migon every time! This is a great date night or special occasion spot."

  • "We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary this past week at Coldwater Cafe. We were greeted in a very friendly manner, our coats taken to be "checked" and then seated. Our server, Jocelyn, was outstanding! Her knowledge of the wine list, menu and dessert selections was excellent! She recommended the wine for my husband (which was superb!) and recommended the venison to me which was also, superb! My husband ordered the pecan crusted tilapia which was also, extremely tasteful! Our desserts, chocolate mousse cake and confetti cheesecake, were both beyond superb! I would highly recommend Coldwater Cafe for lunch with friends or for a nice evening out with your spouse or sharing a meal with friends!"

  • "The meal was fantastic. Waitress wasn't friendly but maybe she was having a bad night. The bread was amazing and they had a decent selection of beer (although $10 a bottle was a bit hard to swallow). We enjoyed our visit and I'm glad we gave it a shot. I read great things about their bar before deciding to go there but it wasn't anything special and all the seats were taken when we got there...not a big deal for us since they seated us immediately but if that's your reason for going, don't. This sounds more negative than I really mean it, you should check this place out if you're looking for a good meal in a nice setting."

  • "if you want a great meal and good wine list with outstanding service Coldwater cafe is for you. I've eaten there several times and never had a bad meal. I'm not a desert guy but the English tea cake was to die for. I would highly recommend this restaurant and it is not a chain restaurant! the filet will compete with a big name restaurants"

The drinks were delicious, we ordered the fresh scallops & grouper , cooked perfectly. Bread & salad were very fresh. We will definitely be back & bring our friends. Thank you"

  • "Coldwater Cafe has the environment of feeling like you are in another world. The decor is classy and the bar area is a delight. Almost like you're in a small New York bar or in a small out of the way Paris place. We ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and filet mignon. Both cooked to perfection!"

  • "We had not been to Coldwater Café in several years. On a whim decided to go with some friends. We enjoyed every minute! We had a drink at the bar. The live music was the perfect volume and not too distracting that you couldn't chat. We all enjoyed our dinner and even ordered dessert! The Cherry Almond Bread pudding was amazing. My husband and I were dreaming about in on Sunday morning when we woke up. We definitely won't be waiting long to go back!"

  • "My friend and I had dinner at Coldwater for New Year's Eve this year and it was an evening that we will remember for a long time. Our table wasn't quite ready when we arrived so we sipped a martini at the cozy bar, and listened to the combo that was playing. We started with a fried brie appetizer, a bottle of Malbec and treated ourselves to ostrich and duck. All delicious!! The house salads were fresh and tasty, too. Our server, Joslin, was sweet, yet professional and very attentive. Truly a five star evening. Tipp City is so fortunate to have this dining spot in it's quaint little downtown area."

  • "I was looking for a special venue to take my son (special mother/son time). I had never been here before but looked interesting on- line. The experience exceeded my expectations. The staff was awesome. They really made sure everything was special from checking in at hostess. The restaurant was beautifully decorated & the music really completed the package. We started with apps at the bar and decided to stay and have dinner there as well. Our server Kevin was AWESOME. He made great recommendations and really made my son feel welcome and important. The food was really good (especially the aged gouda and the shrimp pasta). Even the GM was gracious and sincerely interested in all the guests experience, I would DEFINITELY COME AGAIN!"
