CoiMagnificentAromas and tastes are reminiscent of Mugaritz in Spain, chef is personable and humble, dining experience is memorable, excellent, intelligently attentive staff. Truly a 2 star Michelin experience.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFantasticCoi deserves all the praise it has received. One of the best meals I have ever had. Especially liked the asparagus with mint and the squash soup.I grimaced over the idea of whipped coconut with olive oil but it was great.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding Ingredients;Left HungryThe service and ingredients were top notch but I left hungry and for the amount of money that I paid, I kinda wish I didn't have to leave feeling like I need to grab a pizza or a burger afterwards.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMHeartfelt Elegance & precise worksThe dining room now is much brighter than few years ago ( I could not read the menu without pen-light ). All staff members are cautious yet friendly. Each dishes were presented the extreme details and precise works with elegant color. Yellow Squash Soup and Lamb Breast were a bit salty for us, but paired glasses of wine mended the salty-ness. I especially was impressed by the color contrast of Celtuce and burn hay. Beautiful.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMVery creative and interestingVery creative and interesting menu. Service was nice but a tad cold. I don't think I would come back....it is too expensive by far for what it is.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMA raveCoi is one of the two or three finest restaurants it has ever been my pleasure to visit. Everything is extraordinary and half the dishes are sublime. I could not recommend it more highly.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the most inventiveOne of the most inventive menus in the US today. You will be disappointed if you arrive expecting luxury ingredients. Expect, instead, redwood shoots, or the most fresh and intense pea soup you're ever tasted. The menu builds to a crescendo in the late courses.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMHigh end dining. San Francisco'sHigh end dining. San Francisco's version of French Laundry.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMtranquil, well pacedI'd heard quite mixed things about Coi (it's ancient French for 'tranquility' apparently) and fool I was for avoiding it for so long. The service was spot on, the food delicious and the venue pleasant. It was little things that made it for me though: the best playlist of any restaurant I've been to in the bay soundtracked the meal, the pace was just right (a little over 3 hours in total) and the most helpful, unpretentious sommelier I've encountered in a while (plus a very sensible range of prices on the list). Yes, it is very pricey indeed but it's worth trying if you are interested in high end cuisine.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMEleven courses, all artistic,Eleven courses, all artistic, interesting. Many of them did not happen to taste good to me (a finger of salsify with tiny herbs planted in a brown substance on top), and other, delicious flavors were in too short supply (a single perfect oyster made me yearn for more). It's an experience -- more aesthetic than gustatory -- but if you're curious and have the time, give it a try.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMonly for those who like intelectualonly for those who like intelectual food. If you like real food, it is not for you.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMStunning food, beautiful andStunning food, beautiful and intimate ambiance, along with exceptional service made for one of my favorite San Francisco dinning experiences! Definitely a place I will go back to.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good modern food. CreativeVery good modern food. Creative and surprising without being pretentious or putting creativity above taste. Highly recommended.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMBeyond fine diningOf all the special facets of Coi, it is the creative cooking that puts Coi in a class by itself. A look at the menu can be off-putting:
-how are we going to deal with tofu coagulated with seawater and topped with oxalis flowers?
-how will the olive oil taste in one dessert, or the beeswax in another?
Questions like will pop up, but cast away your fears. If your experience mirrors ours, your answers will tend to fall along the lines of "it's beyond good, beyond interesting, a new approach to food."
Coi's food is as satisfying and as attractive as can be, but totally beyond what you're likely to have experienced or imagined.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMDefinitely a special occasionDefinitely a special occasion restaurant with a fixed tasting menu similar to Brothers and Sisters. I would probably scare you off with the number of dishes, but they are all very small with intense and highly crafted flavors. The wine pairings were very imaginative and eclectic from all over the world and suited the dishes incredibly well. The fresh local produce was artistically presented and the flavors balanced to not overwhelm. To nitpick a little bit, the duck, which was a new dish, was served with a cherry blossom reduction. That was a little to subtle for my tastebuds, but it was still cooked to perfection. It's on the tackier end of Broadway, but the ambiance more than compensates.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe whole experience was wonderfulThe whole experience was wonderful from start to finish. It is very pricey! But we enjoyed all 11 unique dishes that were served in the standard pre fixe menu. The portions are small but add up to 11 dishes - it does fill you up. The wine was wonderful too. It is very quiet and romantic. I think it is great for a romantic dinner for two for a special occasion. The wait staff is so nice and professional. We will go back once a year...3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMEach course was amazing. SinceEach course was amazing. Since there were 11 we felt they did a good job of keeping each dish light and full of taste.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best restaurantsOne of the best restaurants ever. It's like a very refined Alinea distilled to a superb essence.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was great, I thinkThe food was great, I think that it was way over priced.3/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
