CocotteEverything I'd heard it was.It was our first time at Cocotte. The food was excellent with wonderful combinations in each entree. The wait staff was attentive and very helpful in answering our questions regarding each dish. We had a guest who had some dietary issues and the staff went out of their way to address these for her. We will certainly return in the near future.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOooh La La!Once again, Kat and her stellar team at Cocotte have over delivered! The food is simply to die for, especially the chicken liver mousse and escargot! We had a work party of 9 people and they catered to our every need, even my gluten free friend! And I'd never normally recommend a chicken dish anywhere. Ever. Except here! It's their signature dish and it is spectacular! They source their chicken from a single farm that finishes them on milk. The meat is so tender, it's almost unreal!
Thanks to Cocotte for the warm and spot on service, the enchanting ambiance, and tastiest food around!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat foodThe food was really outstanding. We are both gluten free and they were able to accommodate us without missing a beat. It felt and looked like an authentic French restaurant. My only quibble was that the wine prices were high.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMSimple, perfect French cuisineDiscovered Cocotte a while back when we grabbed drinks here while waiting for dinner at Beast. A couple at the bar raved about the food. Now we finally made it back for dinner & were not disappointed. The food was all very well executed and the staff were happy, friendly and very helpful with food recommendations and wine pairings. We enjoyed the pork terrine appetizer, green gazpacho, chicken done two ways, and the savory clafoutis paired perfectly with the waiter's suggested French Chardonnay. We finished with the oversized macaroon dessert. Delicious, but we couldn't finish the whole thing. We will definitely be back.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorable Birthday DinnerThis was our 2nd trip to Cocotte. Last year I had surprised my fiancé for his birthday by taking him to Cocotte as his favorite cuisine is French. We didn't think it was possible, bur our experience was even better than the 1st time! From our waitress and her personality to the absolutely exquisite cuisine. In true French manner, their menu changes by what is most in season & they buy local meats seafood and produce whenever possible. Only thing we would suggest is adding Tiramisu to your dessert menu. Love that! We will definitely be back and will send our friends your way!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThe bouillabaisse has a creamyThe bouillabaisse has a creamy tomato base that we're not use to but the flavor was execellent. The halibut dish was perfectly cooked. Can't wait to go back and try the chicken dish.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful spot!Enjoyed a great meal with my lover at this charming spot. At a vibrant crossroads in north Portland, this corner spot was perfect on a soft Spring evening. The place was originally a trolley car switching station, and the plimpsest which remains adds a nice ambience. Food was utterly delightful, and the staff cordial and professional.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMNeighborhood French gemThis feels like a Parisian neighborhood brassiere..
The owner and chefs are eager to please and to tweak the dishes upon request.
the menu is well set out. Our waiter this time was new, so not yet polished, but generally the waiters are well-trained.
It IS noisy if there is even one loud diner on board. But no distracting music, etc.
It is our favorite dining spot in the Alberta area!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMYes! Cocotte!Ambiance perfect. Food and presentation - Amazing. We picked this because we wanted a hi-end food experience to awe a foodie with the Portland eclectic food scene. Did we ever! Can't wait to go back.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMdelicious! The pan-seared salmon with chevre dumplings and shallots was a terrific combination of flavors and textures. Everything was fresh, beautifully presented and delectable. The servers were knowledgeable and attentive. A pistachio macaroon with meyer lemon curd for dessert was the perfect finish: nutty, chewy, sweet and tangy. Yum!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe will be backVery impressed with Cocette. The food was delicious and presently nicely, our waiter was attentive and relaxed. We had the chicken liver mousse for our appetizer and it was fabulous. My husband had the chicken cooked two ways...his favorite was the dark meat confit. I had the salmon with with spinach and fennel. The salmon was cooked perfectly. The restaurant is small so some tables are very close to you but we had a nice young couple next to us and it was easy enough to chat with them at times and hold private conversations as well.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful! Our party of 4 were all at Cocotte for the first time. We all loved it. The food was delicious and the drinks were good as well. We had two appetizers that were both amazing, the escargot and the pate. I had the mussels as my main and it was so great that I ate every spoonful of the broth and would have licked the bowl if I could. My husband wasn't as enthusiastic about the fish soup, but he enjoyed it. I would highly recommend this place and will definitely be going back.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat an awesome place andWhat an awesome place and they went out of their way to accommodate my 14mo old.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe cocktail "Balvediere?"The cocktail "Balvediere?" was one of the best I've had and the draft beer list was great too. The waiter was so humble, yet knowledgable. Very accommodating. Great food. We plan to go back... many times.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMA little loud outside withA little loud outside with the doors open, but really a great experience. Great cocktails!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMEmbarrassingly Good FoodMy wife and I just tried Cocotte for the first time. We started with a cheese starter. I was very good. She had the salmon and crab special and I had the salmon dish. Both were good. We found ourselves eating every bit of it (embarrassing to say even the sauce). We both had great desserts and I tried a flight of 3 ports/sherry. We each had a local wine. We will be back. We drove (in a messed up rush hour), but we noticed bus 72 goes right past the restaurant.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was our first time at CocotteIt was our first time at Cocotte and it will not be our last, that's for sure! We ordered the mussles, escargo, banh mi, and a burger. Oh yes, it was a lot. Everything, especially Especially the mussles were very fresh. A cozy, warm room. Personal, unobtrusive service. Simple food in creative combinations, impeccably cooked. Great value. Everything you hope for when you take a chance on a new place for dinner (but are rarely so richly rewarded). I know this is a raving review, but we had a great time and a delicious meal and left uplifted for it. Hope your experience is as gratifying.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMA lovely spot. Food was deliciousA lovely spot. Food was delicious and our waiter was the epitome of excellent, knowledgable, warm and friendly service. Kudos all around.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMYou gotta go to CocotteThis was by far the best dining experience I have had this year in Portland, and I dine out a lot! If you long for an intimate French Bistro experience reminiscent of those neighborhood cafes seemingly on every corner in Paris, you must go to Cocotte.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful, romantic, memorableA wonderful, romantic, memorable dinner. Attentive and informative waitress, nice cozy table by the windows. Pickle selection was perfect starter. Salmon and lamb entree were so tasty I scrubbed my plate with bread and my girl friend, who never finishes an entree, wiped her plate clean as well.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic!!From the nnowledgeable and attentive waitstaff to the sublime starters and tantalizing entrees all the way to the decadent desserts, Cocotte will not disappoint. The stafff was very knowledgeable about the menu and any questions that we asked. The service was just a bit slow (like needing to ask for a water refill), but we were not in a hurry, so it really didn't matter. this is the 2nd time we have been to Cocotte, and we look forward to our next visit.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAfter our first outing, thisAfter our first outing, this is in our Top 5 in Portland!!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is my third time at Cocotte. This is my third time at Cocotte. As a frequent visitor to Portland, I am adding this as a must-do for all future visits. Everything came together is a wonderful way on my recent dinner. They have an all day Happy Hour menu on Sunday and MOnday in addition to the regular menu. Great food and great value. HIghly recommended.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was delicious and didFood was delicious and did not disappoint and the service was great as well. We had the escargot and foie gras to start and then the lamb and poulet as our main. I highly recommend the poulet because the portion of confit is too die for. It just melts in your mouth. I can't wait to eat there again. My only regret is not having enough room for dessert.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMVraiment Superbe! If there was a French word for "home run" I'd use it as the title of this review - because Cocotte knocked it out of the park on our recent visit. Fantastic food, excellent service, charming ambience - the evening couldn't have been better. I've been to Cocotte several times over the past year, and it's never failed to deliver a memorable dining experience.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent. You wantFood was excellent. You want to plan to take your time. Environment small, cozy - not a lot of tables.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMOur group of six was seatedOur group of six was seated right away at a table that was in a good location for hearing all conversation. That's what I asked for when I booked the reservation, and they complied with my request. We were greeted by our waiter who explained the fish special, and answered our questions about the menu. Four of us ordered the petrale sole special, and we were not disappointed. It was delicious! The other two ordered the boulliabaise, and they enjoyed it as well. For dessert we ordered the strawberry/grapefruit sorbet, and it was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Cocotte, and plan to return.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMJust a lovely restaurant withJust a lovely restaurant with special attention given to each guest. The food is true to the French style. I'm so glad I tried this gem.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMCocotte-Excellent French RestaurantThis little gem is located in a local neighborhood on Killingsworth. What a find!! We went on a Tuesday to celebrate a birthday and couldn't be happier. We had roast leg of lamb and the sturgeon. Both were worthy of a James Beard award. The presentation was awesome, the service was friendly, unobtrusive and faultless. Excellent cocktails and an extensive wine list. We've eaten in just about every French restaurant on both side of the river and this one deserves a visit. The bill came as a pleasant surprise as well.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAlmost in FranceThe interior has a romantic, rustic charm. Our server was very helpful. I was concerned about the harissa curry accompanying the Sturgeon. He accurately said it was more flavor than heat and the cream cooled the spiciness. My wife had a delicious duck confit pasta special. We’d recommend Cocotte to anyone who appreciates French-style cuisine and for those who wish to try a very good example of the genre. We have deducted one star for the well-thought out wine list - the problem is the pricing. We support restaurants that provide good wine at reasonable prices, & understand the need for everything “paying its share of overhead”, and rarely take a bottle from our own cellar. Having been forewarned we paid the reasonable $15 corkage.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMcant wait to go backOur waiter was great, and brought us an extra dish of ice cream when I couldn't convince my husband to order that flavor. Food was delicious! Service was a bit slow for our entrees but we were enjoying the company of our friends. We will definitely be back! They have one of the best desserts ever - the pistachio macaroon! Do NOT go there without saving room for it.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was such a great meal. This was such a great meal. Wonderful service and good drinks, wine, and the food was excellent!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFrench-tasticWe have always wanted to try Cocotte and finally got the chance - we were very impressed. Loved the quiet/quaint feel of the restaurant and attentive staff. The food was fantastic - finally real foie gras! Some of the best French cuisine in Portland and very reasonable prices. We will be back1/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA Clear FavoriteRestaurant is small, unpretentious, with French atmosphere and decor - perfect attention from the waiter, attentive but not hovering or rushing us. Happy hour food is ridiculously generous. Food is locally sourced and imaginatively prepared, delicious combinations of ingredients I would never have thought of (and I love to cook creatively). Good spectrum of dining options, vegetarian just as good as the rest. Really wonderful experience overall.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
