Diner Reviews
  • "Overall, a very pleasant experience. the salmopn mousse needs more bread, however. Nice, relaxed service. We ordered in stages and the server was not intrusive at all. We gave a taste of the wine we brought and the chef sent out a little sheese which paired beautifully. Nice Touch!!"

  • "Our reservation was for 7pm and we didn't leave until after 10 so that should tell you something! Wonderful meal, great service, great wine. It's a new favorite for me for sure!"

  • "We had a great time at Cocotte saturday night. Food/Drinks/Service were terrific. Would recommend highly, and we'll definitely be back!"

  • "Cocotte was rated as one of Portlands top 40 restaurants, after dining there Saturday night my wife and I agree. The duck prosciutto and chicken liver mousse were great appetizers. I had the poulet en cocotte and it was outstanding, my wife had the carrot soup and loved it. Highly recommended."

  • "For a very good meal at a very fair price and a very good time, go to Cocotte. You will be very glad you did. We always have an enjoyable outing there. It is a gem, a sleeper, a winner!"

  • "Very busy on Father's Day night and it took about 10 minutes for our waitress to return with our beverages. Seems that they were understaffed? My husband enjoyed his pork chop, daughters enjoyed carrot soup& steamed clams. My wild salmon was good but not "Wow!" It needed a sauce- a bit dry. Desserts were good. Nothing wrong with this place- just had read great reviews and expected more. There's one bathroom so there can be a line to use. All in all a satisfactory experience but won't return."

  • "A lovely evening for a party of six... Great starters except the raw oysters (a mouthful of crumbled shell in mine and some others). The app's outshone the entrees, but all we're well prepared and enjoyed."

  • "I love this restaurant. The food is so interesting, beautifully prepared and well-timed. We never feel rushed, over-served or feel as if we are not getting our food served in an appropriate period of time. The house designed cocktails are a bit odd for my taste, but the wine selection is wonderful and our server was able to provide just what I needed in a sparkling wine."

  • "We took my nephew there so he could experience french food for the first time. The food was delicious and the service was excellent."

  • "This restaurant definitely surpassed our expectations. Each dish was complex with incredibly well blended flavors. We started with the escargot and rabbit livers. Both had fennel but the other flavors were different and accentuated the appetizer. Each entree was excellent and it was hard to decide if the pork, rabbit crepinette or the halibut with risotto but as we shared tastes; everyone liked all three dishes. Truly excellent. The Cote Du Rhone wines was fairly priced and very good as well."

  • "Our party shared a smoked salmon mousse appetizer that was a revelation. My husband had the rabbit crepinette, a delicious savory dish with a delicate overlay of cherry offset by a hint of mustard. I had salmon with asparagus and leeks, with a lemony sauce along the edge of the plate that gave just the right bright contrast to the fish. Our son had halibut with roasted mushrooms in a puddle of intensely flavored broth so delicious I almost regretted my own choice. The table shared a bottle of French sauvignon blanc, fairly priced and just right for all the dishes. Food and service were absolutely outstanding, as always. The venue, which is charming, could be quieter for us older guests, but Cocotte is worth it. Go."

  • "The service here is perfect - they check on you without hovering. There were three of us and we shared 5 plates and it was perfect. One of the best escargot dishes I have ever had. Everything is fresh and tasty. Drinks are inventive as well - give this place a try!"

  • "My 4th visit to Cocotte. The small plates, salads and all entree outré group ordered were very good. Highly recommend Cocotte for French bistro dining."

  • "Cocotte was the perfect spot to spend a last dinner with my friend before she jets off to France for a month! The food at Cocotte was excellent, the waiters were very cute and the service was fantastic. We were there 2.5 hours and did not feel we were rushed through dinner, even though it was the dinner hour. I was able to use my Passport Card for a substantial savings. Thank you for a great experience Cocotte! "

  • "One customer was speaking too loudly. This is not the fault of Cocotte.....so perhaps you will be more fortunate. The plates are generous so be sure to share."

  • "Cocotte never disappoints with all day Happy Hpur menu on Sundays. The escargots and the salad were delicious as was my salmon. The caramel pudding for dessert was divine. "

  • "All four of us raved about our meal; it was great. Staff was wonderful and very accommodating. It did get a little noisy as the restaurant filled up. They have wonderful window doors that open when the weather is warm. Great experience!"

  • "It was wonderful food. The service was great but not intrusive. Many windows made it feel like it was part of the neighborhood. What a nice surprise to find a lovely NE place to eat."

  • "What a great find! Ambiance, great food, superb service :-) sunday and Monday all day happy hour with offerings far above ordinary. "

  • "A gem of a neighborhood restaurant...where they happen to serve the most wonderful chicken liver mousse, and a plate of warm, herbed olives that's just delicious. We enjoyed our meal very much. Two of us had halibut, one had the rabbit. The portions were so generous I myself could have shared, and the wines by the glass were just right with the menu. What makes this place stand apart though are the ambiance and the service. We live in SE, and while the restaurants over here are as good as their press says they are, most of the servers are caught up in their own scene and the diner plays the audience. At Cocotte, the waitstaff is welcoming and relaxed, but professional. Relief! A lovely place, with reasonable prices. We'll be back. "

  • "We try to get to Portland at least once a month to explore the great restaurants. Our last visit uncovered another gem. Cocotte has some seriously well-prepared food."

  • "My husband and I went on a Friday night. We found it not too crowded and friendly. We were seated right away in a neat little corner with windows. We found the place to be quite relaxing. The simple decor made me feel at home. I would recommend only having one appetizer before the main course as opposed to two. I loved the pickled plate, which had duck eggs with the yolk that was like caramel. I ordered the wild salmon, and he had the pork chop. Both were generous portions. We ate way to much! The wine list was very short so it you may want to bring your own. "

  • "I enjoyed the restaurant, everything good except I think the wine is very overpriced. It does annoy me when restaurants over charge for wine."

  • "very true to the bistro style. excellent chicken liver pate. the chicken leg confit was excellent too. thought both the pork chop and chicken breast were well prepared and cooked to perfection. adding a little something to moisten both the pork chop and chicken breast a bit more would be my only recommendation. the room reminded me of Paris and in general thought it was very nice. "

  • "Great for special occasions because it's a little pricey but worth it for those special times. Cheapest bottle of wine about $32. There were a nice selection of appetizers and small plates. Entrees in the $20 to $25 range. Service and food presentation was excellent. Easy to get to NE Portland location. We'll go back for special occasions. "

  • "Unique menu .. got there early and seated immediately. would go back again. "

  • "There were four of us and we each ordered something different for our 3 courses (not on special). I liked the white bean and nettle soup quite a bit. My halibut was well cooked and the English pea sides (pea shoots, Pureed peas, green peas) were a nice pairing. The champagne cocktail with Dubonnet was an elegant touch. My dates main was the rabbit crepinette which was unfortunately quite bony. One of our friends had the brined pork chop and liked it. His wife liked her salmon dish. I am not sure what I thought of their take on carrot cake. The cake itself was too dry and there was no sign of the promised buttercream frosting."

  • "We have been to Cocotte several times and enjoyed it. We have a table special to us: table 10. We've asked for it when reserving and gotten it. But this time, for some reason, they put us in the new back room, which is okay, but far from the vibrant front room. Food still very good. Service okay. Back room a disappointment."

  • "Cocotte is the kind of restaurant you want to keep quiet about. It does everything perfectly from the bread and flavored butter right up to the take home gift of madeleines. Food is assertively flavored but in a relaxed way. Every ingredient in a dish should be there - it's not about 45 different competing flavors, rather the right mix. The room is calm and feels like a combination of a Paris bistro and a Pacific NW neighborhood spot."

  • "Food and service is always excellent. The ambience is the icing on the cake for us, especially when it's raining, which, of course, rarely happens in Portland. It just has a cozy, European feel on a rainy evening. "

  • "Everything is great , Could use a regular salad on the menu , But all the entrees were killer. Great for a special occasion"

  • "Nice Northwest balance: casual atmosphere with heavy linen napkins. Fine wine list, moderately priced. Number of entrees has grown since they opened an adjacent room for more tables. Cannot go wrong with any entree. Sauces so good that I ate my veggies just to mop up the extra sauce. Didn't try dessert. Staff friendly and casual and service prompt, but not hustling the diners out. Not a "$" restaurant, but shared appetizer, large entree, and wine came to $40 per person -- a great bargain, for the top-quality food. Bottom line: unqualified recommendation!"

  • "First time visitor to Cocotte. All of our food preparations were flavorful and well executed. Particular raves for duck prosciutto, roasted cauliflower and a crepe filled with rabbit."

  • "My wife and I have been fans of Cocotte for some time now and eat there as often as we can. We love the French decor, the warmth of the cozy room. The service is always good and the food we think outstanding. Cocotte is one of the reasons Portland is such a great restaurant city. Cocotte is tops with us."

  • "We went for my son's birthday. The staff was cheerful , welcoming and helpful. While the menu is French, it is interesting and innovative rather than traditional. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed our meal greatly."

  • "Have dined here several times over past 2-3 years and have really enjoyed every dinner presentation until this one. My partner had the halibut on peas and lentils which was nice to look at but a) the fish was a bit overcooked and the legumes were undercooked (much too crunchy for our taste) and b) it did not seem to be prepared as described on the menu. I had the farrotto which was tasty but too much farro and not enough wild mushrooms in my opinion. The fiddlehead ferns are cute to look at but don't add much to the taste. The mizuna salad which we split was excellent but was served as the whole salad without an extra plate. The server disappeared once she served the salad. In general service was not helpful. Not likely to return."

  • "Love this restuarant, love this corner with 7 fabulous eateries within 100'. Like people, if there is one good one, there will be several. Out of towners, hop in a cab and go there. You will find something you love. It is the hottest dining spot in Portland right now."
