Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed eating here. It's very small so make reservations. Get the sides and an appetizer as the entrees are kind of small. They are priced reasonably though."

  • "The whole place was a bit dim, but each table was set up with a cute white carnation and candle to make each table its own little intimate lightened space in an overall dark room. It was pretty romantic, but since the place is so small you could hear everyone's conversations and everyone could hear yours, and coupled with the French wine, there was a lot of noisy and rambunctious parties that filled the space with their volume. I had the stuffed mushrooms and the veal, which were both just ok. I do not drink alcohol so maybe the food would have tasted better if I had drank some wine, so this is def not a spot for people who aren't drinkers/ those underage. It was a bit overpriced in my opinion, but I guess that's most NYC restaurants."

  • "After a long weekend in New York, where we had dined all over town for each meal, nothing compared to Cocotte's brunch. This little nook was an escape to the Basque region in France and Spain, and no one in our party left hungry. From delectable French toast, to a Spanish tortilla with chorizo, to an amazing eggs Benedict with proscuitto, skipping this restaurant on your trip to New York would be a huge mistake!"

  • "Good place. Food was inspired, although a bit heavy - but that's French! Great service, unique cool ambiance."

  • "I have nothing bad to say about this restaurant. Our waiter Paulineis the most amazing waiter I've had in a long time in NYC. She had an amazing energy and very enthusiastic and nice. THE FOOD IS MAGNIFICENT. Filet Mignon, was like eating butter tasting beef. On top there was a small piece of fois gras home made. delicious. the coli flour casserole was incredible. the Salmon carpaccio was superb. The wine recommendation, incredible! OH! desert!!! amazing chocolate tart that is crusty thin perfect cookie like on the outside and melted delicious chocolate on the inside Music, very spanish mixed with french since they are from the vasque region. I loved my dinner experience! RECOMMENDED 100% TO FRIENDS"

  • "I've been to Cocette twice - I found it when my kids and I stumbled upon it shopping in Soho area - we were exhausted and it was so welcoming and comfortable - it was the perfect place to sit, rest, eat, and rejuvenate. The vibe is all France - the staff speak it, the food reflects it, and the vibe is casual European neighborhood Brasserie. Many of the authentic dishes are cooked in 'cocettes' or little casseroles and are warm and flavorful and a perfect portion with bread and a salad. Enjoy!"

  • "This was the second time I was at this restaurant and both visits surely impressed us! The waitstaff is very knowledgeable and welcoming, as well as willing to make recommendations of wine and food pairings. Great wine selection, and you have the option to purchase a carafe or a half carafe, in addition to by-the-glass or a full bottle. The food is divine- rich and delicious, and adequately portioned for the quality and richness of the food. If you're looking for your typical American super-sized portions of food lacking complex and delicious flavor, pass this place by. If you want an enriching, sense-tingling experience-- you go to Cocotte!"

  • "The food & service was amazing! I was running behind & when I called the rest. they said no problem & was able to modify reservation time. The rest. itself it not very big; accomodates up to 30 seats (incl. bar/counter). Went during a weekday lunch around 12:30 & it wasn't extremely busy nor slow. I was told by the server that the dinner time can be very crowded with long waits outside. The food is simply amazing. It is not an extensive menu, however, if you order about 3-4 tapas per person, it will be more than enough food. Must try is the foie gras, stuffed mushrooms, salmon and the goat cheese salad. The server made our experience memorable as well & described the food in detail (locally grown). I def. recommend & will go back again!"

  • "Perfect for a quiet brunch. Although it can get very noisy during dinner time."

  • "It was love at first bite, then second, third... And what's NOT to love about individual cocottes of yummy things with crisped tops or unctuous sauces? Butternut squash soup, so uncomplicated, is a wonder of velvety flavor. Pork cheeks and tarragon chicken are so satisfying paired with nutmeg-y cauliflower and creamy potato gratins. If the dishes sound rich, they are, which is why what strikes as small portions when set on the table end up being just right, and perfectly sharable. Wines by the glass are smartly curated. The decor is perfectly poised between rustic and cool. Servers were competent and professional. The only misstep: a strawberry panna cotta that for lack of the proper texture was essentially whipped cream and fruit."

  • "Such an unexpected gem in the cramped NYU area. All the ingredients were fresh and tasted good. A tad overpriced though."

  • "Small cosy restaurant, with a rather small menu... But the stuff on it is exceptionally good. French-basque type tapas next to decent traditional french dishes in a new coat... Quality counts here, so don't expect 20 oz steaks... We've had ham croquettas with homemade aïoli, creme brulée de foie gras, steak rossini, we've let the winechoice to the bartender And that was a great decision. The owner Sophie makes the deserts, we didn't taste them because too stuffed... Meal, wines, gratuity incl we paid a 125$ pp."

  • "The food is fantastic, but some dishes are overpriced, given the portion size. I think we were overcharged for the wine, but it was hard to ask, as by the time the check came, our waiter had disappeared - and this was after asking us to move to the bar in order to accommodate incoming diners (despite the fact that we'd had a reservation). I'd recommend this place to young couples and groups more interested in nibbling on fabulous food in a rustic-glam, neo-European setting than having a relaxing, satisfying meal with audible conversation."

  • "we've been coming to cocotte a few times, service is very friendly, food is excellent and the spot is very nice"

  • "Extremely delicious small plates, a fusion of French and Spanish, amazing lemon tarte for dessert. The only caveat is that as these are small plates, it can get a bit pricey for the amount of food served on each plate. For instance, the very delicious scallops with truffles special consisted of just two large scallops, hardly enough for sharing. The food is wonderful, however, so would very highly recommend if cost is not a concern; my husband loved it too and we met friends who were just leaving who also thoroughly enjoyed their dining experience."

  • "Had a wonderful meal in this little hidden gem; recommended by a friend. Excellent, tasty, memorable food - but a bit pricey just the same. Could use a bigger wine list but wouldn't hold that against them."

  • "I'll start by saying the staff was extremely friendly, most were French, the decor was very warm and cosy but chic and trendy. The menu was interesting and just different enough, the bread was excellent and the food was fantastic. So the only drawback is...... Yes, I know it's New York City, but they really pack em in here. When we first sat down we had space for most of our meal (it was early) then the last two people came in and they had to pull the whole table out to get them in. And you're not only close but pretty much touching the person next to you. I got a bit (a lot) claustrophobic. Excellent eavesdropping but I'd rather have a couple inches of personal space."

  • "The place is much smaller than I think, but it's very quiet and the environment is quite good. It's a great place for two or three friends to hang out and chat over a brunch. The food is awesome and the size of each dish is larger than typical French cuisine. Great experience!"

  • "A great little restaurant which is only small so booking is essential. The service and staff recommendations are really helpful."

  • "$18 for poached eggs -that had to be returned because they had been overcooked- is ridiculous. Did I mention the $9 (bottled) juices? Overall - subpar and overpriced."

  • "On the prowl for another French bistro, my girlfriend and I decided to try Cocotte. The room is lovely and when I arrived I was greeted with a warm smiling man who instantly took my coat. When my friend arrived, he did the same. The wine we chose was excellent and we started with the duck rillettes which was really yummy. Our main meal was tasty but the salad was a little bit of a throw together- not entirely well though out. We finished with a glass of champagne each and were quickly moved to the bar so that the table could be prepared for dinner guests. Ok I suppose, considering it was Valentines day. All in all a really pleasant experience but I'd say it's slightly overpriced for what it is."

  • "Had a wonderful experience at Cocotte. Had made a reservation for 2 at 9pm but ended up having a friend join us last minute. This is NY and we did not expect them to be accommodating but gave it a try. To our surprise we were received with smiles and promptly seated. We were lucky I guess. Service was friendly and informative. The chef stopped by to say hello and explain some of the dishes and portion sizes. We shared most dishes (boef, lentils, stuffed mushrooms, seafood ravioli and the cauliflower gratin (the best of all). Food was fantastic although the boef was a bit underwhelming. The Portuguese wine we ordered was outstanding. Very fun ambiance as well. Will come back next week."

  • "Cocotte has been on my list of places to eat for several months and we finally made it there. We were kindly greeted immediately upon entering, our coats were kindly whisked away, and we were warmed by a delicious glass of wine while we waited for the rest of our party. Upon their arrival, we were moved to our table and greeted by our waiter. He recommended several items to us and informed us of the special and then guided us on how much we should order since it's small shared plates. Between the four of us we ordered 11 plates. Each dish was more delicious than the last. Service, ambiance and food were top notch! We can't wait to go back!"

  • "Our waiter was very helpful and attentive; everything we had was fantastic ... the duck, cauliflower, the pork dish all excellent. Dessert ws a little lacking but all in all a great tasting meal. Tables very close together so be prepared to hear other conversations."

  • "Tapas portions and tasky rustic food. Service was good and owner was actively engaged with customers. Nice neighbourhood vive. Couple of things on the negative side: 1) The server consistently showed the food about to be served to another table for show and tell. 2) The wines are good but pricey. Large carafe is barely over 1/2 the bottle and mostly in the $40s. You will notice that the restaurant website shows food menu, but not the wine menu. It's probably a good stop if you are having a light late night meal with a glass of wine."

  • "This charming, vibrant spot features great food and wine, but most notably an endearing French staff, eager to share their favorite dish or wine with you. It's trendy and a great place to go if you're missing the hexagon."

  • "Excellent small plates and good wine selection. Suggest you start off with no more than 4 plates for a party of two and order more later in your meal if you choose. We had six dishes that were all great. Five would have been better. This is not a tapas restaurant. If you over order and include wine the tab will rise quicker than you may expect. Everything is delicious and we will return."

  • "I came with the BF on a Friday night. Overall, the experience was very good. The food is nothing special but it is carefully prepared, with fresh ingredients and reasonably portioned. Go for the cauliflower soufflé if you crave for something creamy and yummy and the carrots with cumin if you are looking for something on the lighter side. Did not particularly enjoy the salmon carpaccio, so I would not recommend it. The wine menu is also really good. What i really enjoyed thought was the atmosphere and the service. The decoration is very cute and the place is so romantic. The waiters are very knowledgable, funny and friendly. Would definitely recommend the place for a cozy night."

  • "I didn't like the food - and it was way way topo expensive for what the offer. The regional French/germanic cusine was not to my taste. Too much hot cream and butter. But the staff was lovely, knowledgeable, accomodating and friendly. The restaurant is cozy and romatic and also chic looking."

  • "I've been to Cocotte before and really like the feel of the place. I decided to take my boyfriend there for our date night. We made a reservation but still had to wait despite the many empty tables. The food turned out to be mediocre. But the truly disappointing part was the end of our meal. Mid-way through our coffee, the manager or something came and told us that he has a 9pm reservation, so if we want to finish our coffee, we have to move to the bar. He made us wait for our table, but he couldn't give us a few more minutes? His attitude and his language were so incredibly rude. I had never been treated so badly at a restaurant in NYC. The place is charming, but the city is not lacking in good french restaurants with better service."

  • "Cocotte deserves raves for food and service. Unusual perfectly cooked small dishes, all wonderful. Do know that Fridays and Saturdays are agonizingly noisy. We had the misfortune of sitting next to a table for two that turned over once and both times the men at the table destroyed our ear drums. Next time we'll go early in the week (there will be a next time), but we would never go again on a weekend."
