Diner Reviews
  • "You cannot go wrong with a good meal here. It is very predictable in terms of Italian fare veering towards more cautious offerings. It is definitely a place good for large groups."

  • "Fully enjoyable evening. wonderful wait staff, charming knowledgeable, excellent suggestions. Food was perfect with the five of us all having a different meal. Beautifully presented and perfectly seasoned. Really a perfect evening and meal."

  • "Pricy but really good food and excellent service. Food was piping hot. I want to go back and try the pizza in the wood burning oven."

  • "Coco Pazzo has an excellent range of food choices, and the kitchen knows how to cook food ( fish for me ) to perfection. Portions are just right - not intimidatingly large nor affectedly small. Wines are very good; servers ditto. Hadn't dined there in perhaps a year, but have been a repeat customer since the 80's, and have never been disappointed. Also important to me is the fact that cilantro/mushrooms/hot spices are not littering the menu; food fads are not overindulged. We will return for another dining, or lunch, treat soon."

  • "Reservations were honored ON TIME. Service was excellent. Food was delicious. I highly recommend however, The lights needed to be dimmed, and they needed some background house music to attract a younger crowd. We were there with my young adult daughter who felt it was an "old" crowd and she would not want to go there with their friends. But, she LOVED the food!!"

  • "This is a very good restaurant. The risotto was excellent. The dessert was great - a wonderful blend of flavors of chocolate and pistachio."

  • "Coco Pazzo can be enjoyed by all ages, probably age 8 to 90; I've seen both ends of the spectrum. The menu is extensive so both pasta lovers and northern Italian meat/seafood lovers will have great selections. The wine list is broad by the glass or bottle. I saw a birthday celebration ( all adults) and a bridesmaid table next to us (10 ladies - no tiaras, thank goodness). It's upscale so don't expect a chain restaurant experience. I would return."

  • "We reserved and explained we were a party of 8 with 3 kids under 9, celebrating a U Chicago graduation. Coco Pazzo staff treated us like very special guests. The food was absolutely amazing! We were unrushed and the staff was particularly helpful with regards to the children in our paryy. They also prepared a congratulatory dessert for our daughter. I highly recommend this lovely restaurant!"

  • "What a nice dining experience! Food was delicious! We arrived at 5:30 with a friend we hadn't seen in a long time, and we talked at ate for three hours without being rushed. Pacing of the delivery of food to the table was spot-on. Fabulous arugula salad and pastas. Portions large enough to take some home!"

  • "The food was amazing & the service was excellent. Simply a very high quality Italian restaurant - will definitely go back."

  • "Coco Pazzo has the best Italian food anywhere in the Chicago area. My entree was a spinach and ricotta-filled pasta with a light cream and spinach sauce and mushrooms. This may sound ordinary but it was light and tasty with flavors infused with gentle spices. My husband's swordfish was delicious and his appetizer of antipasti misti was, as usual, outstanding. Desserts were excellent: my apple tart was just tart enough and my husband's panettone and rum was great, a first panettone for him. I can't wait to return."

  • "After rediscovering Coco Pazzo a year and a half ago, but generally dining there during the week, my guests and I dined there this past Saturday night and made a 6:45pm reservation. From the very first moment, it was obvious that the server wanted to move us through the dinner and turn the table. It took some resistance to finally be left to dine at a leisurely pace consistent with a $115/person dinner. Even the owner came by to give the "ready to order " not as subtle as he thought message. It wasn't as if we were taking inordinately long to experience a reasonable fine dining experience. Our bill timed us out at two hours. Very disappointing. The veal chop had veins of sinew or gristle inconsistent with a $42 entree."

  • "I brought my mother for lunch to Cocco Pazzo right before Thanksgiving. We had an elegant and simple meal that you can always expect from a great place like this. The roasted octopus starter was incredible and perfectly seasoned. The gnocchi, a favorite of ours and in our minds - the best in the city, was perfect. The service was also nice - attentive and on top of things but not hovering. For lunch or dinner, this is in my top 5 places in Chicago."

  • "Had a great experience with my dinner: the italian menu is spot on, great and interesting options. Love the wine list and the consistent good quality of the bottles. Service was also great and very friendly. Would definitely recommend it!"

  • "Our dinner started with well crafted martinis, and moved to the octopus and burrata mozzarella appetizers. All were very good. The short ribs and monk fish specials were exceptional. Two of us shared an apple tart, and the other had the ice cream selection. Fantastic."

  • "Coco Pazzo is a great venue for any occasion. My recent dining experience was "Oscar Night" for some, but theatre night for my sons and me. The service was attentive without being intrusive. The meal preparations were perfectly delicious and hot. Worthy of the most discriminating palate."

  • "With no alcohol and 2 entrees with coffee. $75.00 with tip for lunch and the portions were small. Will not go back for lunch"

  • "the food and atmosphere were great. its tight quarters if you are seated at a two top and you are in the middle of your neighbors conversation if he is loud. you are in great shape if you are seated along the windows at the four tops. the waitress really knew her menu and was attentive. you are greeted royally upon entrance, the reservation was honored on time and the folks out front aided with transportation home. we will try it again. maybe the café next time."

  • "We saved our booking for the last evening of our business trip as we expected Coco Pazzo to be our best meal - and it was! The service was excellent and very helpful. The food was very well prepared and presented. One of our group said that the ambience felt more of a restaurant in Italy than Chicago. Our only criticism was the portion size - far too big for small Europeans! I look forward to returning on my next trip to Chicago."

  • "Small location that packs a punch. Items on the menu remind me of Italy. Foods made with pure and fresh ingredients. The pate was Devine. Would come back time and time again when in Chicago."

  • "Everything was great, the only thing not good was the attitude of the guy in the front, he wanted to take our jackets, I said No thank you, and he sneared at me, but WHO CARES ! The food is fantastic ! I will be back again."

  • "Dined here for the first time on Saturday night with a friend. Heard nothing but great things so I thought I'd give it try... Food was great! I was really impressed with the wine selection, however, service was lacking from the bartender to the server. I know it was Valentine's Day weekend, so the restaurant was especially busy so I didn't want to judge too hard but I couldn't help as took away significantly from our experience. The server took awhile to greet us and when she did seem less concerned with us and more interested in observing the rest of the dining room while interacting with us. She didn't suggestively sell us anything or seem genuinely concerned with our experience at all."

  • "Where to begin. This was my first trip to Coco Pazzo. I have dined at the cafe before and I didn't think it could get any better. I dined here for lunch for Restaurant Week and was blown away. The service is outstanding, I really appreciate when servers make recommendations - especially when you're having difficulty choosing from a bunch of menu selections (and everything sounds so good). I ended up ordering the artichoke salad which was delicious, and the salmon for my entree. The food is exquisite. It's super fresh and not like what you get at other Italian restaurants. I feel the menu items vary greatly from other restaurants and I was really pleased with Coco Pazzo. It was my first time dining & I definitely found a new favorite place."

  • "We went to Coco Pazzo for a mid-week dinner, during restaurant week. The prix fix menu we selected (risotto and short ribs) was a perfect winter night dinner. The food was tasty and service generally attentive but uneven. Ambiance was nice. It's in an old warehouse space with lots of wood and drapes to divide up the space and also mute the noise. The wine list is extensive but since this was a business dinner we did not really have the chance to dive in too deeply. I would definitely go back and order off the regular menu and get into the wine list to give the restaurant a chance to shine."

  • "Coco Pazzo was one of the restaurants we looked forward to eating at during restaurant week. We were there on time but the person checking us in was very cold and unwelcoming. She showed us to our table, a nice table by the window but never smiling or making eye contact. Our waiter came over and introduced himself, came back later to take our order and we never saw him again. My appetizer order was not what I ordered but they quickly corrected it and I have to say it was the best part of my meal. The entree was almost inedible but dessert was very good. My husband enjoyed all of his meal but no one came to check on us and a waitress came over to ask if we would like coffee and then bring us our check. It was not a pleasant experience."
