Diner Reviews
  • "The soup starters we ordered were both good, and my wife liked her gnochetti. The daily special I ordered was inconsistent, as the duck breast was quite good (mostly due to a great sauce) but the leg confit was so dry it was essentially inedible. Service was middling."

  • "We went out with a couple of our very good friends. Overall we had a great time. The good was excellent and many different wine options. There were only a couple of things to make mention. We were brought out a dish that we did not order and ended up paying for because they thought we ordered that as well. We ordered a second bottle of wine and had it poured in a decanter. We did not finish the bottle of wine and wanted to take the rest to go. They had thrown our wine bottle and cork away so we had to use a different wine bottle that had to be rinsed out. Really wasn't any good by the time we brought it home that night to have another glass. Other than that everything was great."

  • "The food here is consistently innovative and tasty. Two of my dishes contained fava beans, a real treat only available for two months per year. My mushroom appetizer was outstanding and my husband's salad was exceptional. Our main courses of steak and fish were also wonderful. I can't wait to return."

  • "We have been dining at Coco Pazzo for many years. It is our favorite restaurant in Chicago, not only because it does everything (food, service, et al.) exceptionally well but also because the staff clearly treats you like a welcome, special guest. That is a talent that has disappeared over the years & nobody does it better than Coco Pazzo. They make you feel good when you are greeted at the door, as you enjoy your meal & when you walk out the door. If you haven't tried Coco Pazzo, you're missing a rare dining experience."

  • "The ambiance was great but was underwhelmed with the halibut special. Fish was very bland and dry. Soup was ok but nothing special. Was there on a Monday night so may have to try again on another night."

  • "Do not get a table near the bar. Noisy patrons caused us to move our table. Food and service good."

  • "Great food, great service. We were never rushed and enjoyed a fantastic meal. We were looking for a relaxing evening and that 'a exactly what we experienced."

  • "Our server was friendly and helpful, giving us good advice on wine, entrees and dessert. She was dead on in all cases. Pici entree was perfection! always have a fantastic meal here and the wait staff are extremely professional -- every time."

  • "Great service and ambiance! The food was very good too. The chef sent a small appetizer to the table and a cookie was added as the finale. Nice touches to a meal. We will return on a future Chicago trip."

  • "the ambience was lovely-and the help was attentive-thought the food was just ok-had an excellent bottle of wine"

  • "The place is certainly happening - it was overflowing on a Monday night. The food is quite good including the homemade pasta. The antipasta selection was good. They could probably take out a few tables - both to lessen the claustrophobic feeling from sitting almost on top of your neighbor and allow the overstretched staff to have enough time to service the tables."

  • "Another excellent meal with service to match....The selections, tastes, and presentations are all way above par and this is not your local neighborhood Italian pasta house. Excellent and beyond the norm antipast selections and especially the zucchini flowers, were outstanding. The Entrees of Quail, Branzino and many more at our table of 8 specialties done to perfection. Always a stop on my business trips to Chicago and never a miss....Thx to all there"

  • "I visit Coco Pazzo about 2.3 times/year when in Chicago on business. It is remarkably consistent in its excellence. A Roman couple once characterized it as the most reminiscent of their home town restaurants of any they had tried in the United States. That is above my pay grade; it is simply the most authentic in my experience across the past 40 years."

  • "I made the reservation indicating we were celebrating my wife's 50th birthday. They did a nice low key birthday candle in her chocolate flourless cake (which was delicious). Great attentive wait staff. Antipasti is top notch as well as the fiorentino steak for two. Perfect evening."

  • "Coco Pazzo has been a wonderful restaurant for many years. It is a classic. The food is scrumptious, although I miss the days when the "insalata di carciofini" really was all artichokes. Oh well -- it's still good with greens and artichokes. It's really a great place for lunch or dinner for those who appreciate great great food that is creative Italian in an environment that permits conversation and where service is attentive but unobtrusive."

  • "Always had good experiences here in the past. Not this time. The service was horrible. Our server took about 10-15 minutes to acknowledge our presence and disappeared for long stretches of time. The Maitre d tried to make up for it by stopping by to check on our wine, but then he forgot to bring it. To his credit, once we reminded him, he apologized and comped the glass of wine for us. It really wasn't that busy so I'm not sure what the server's problem was."

  • "We make a visit to Coco Pazzo a must for every visit to Chicago. The food and service usually is excellent. The special dinners are a treat and the wine list is able to cover all tastes. We look forward to every visit as we know we are in for a special meal. We had a prty of eight and it was handled in a most excellent manner."

  • "My husband and I ordered 2 different salads, both were delicious, but one had way too much fava beans. Liver pate was creamy and good, but slightly room temperature...as if they left out for a while (I prefer my pate little chilled for better texture). My husband ordered the whole sea bass (simple, but flavorful). I ordered the squid ink pasta, which was amazing! I recommend this dish to everyone! Lastly we ordered Crostata di Mele and Torta for desserts. I personally did not like the Crostata, the apple tart was little mushy, wasn't crispy at all, but Torta was delicious! Overall the experience was great and I generally did enjoy the food."

  • "I took my daughter there for a birthday lunch. Food was fabulous and great service. I did feel a little under dressed in nice jeans and a blouse. I will definitely visit again the next time I'm in Chicago."

  • "My sister, my niece and my daughter were in Chicago for a mother/daughter shopping trip. We decided to have dinner at Coco Pazzo! We were so pleased with the attentive service and the excellent food! The only thing that I was somewhat displeased about was getting the "extra" seating near the bar with the low stacking chairs. More than likely set up for the overflow, however, I had made my reservation 3 weeks prior. The food and service made up for the uncomfortable chairs. "

  • "We had a very good evening and the food was great. The waiter was attentive and helpful with selections. It was nicely lit and and comfortable. The tables were not too close together. We could have sat any table and would have been pleased. We will return."

  • "Coco Pazzo is a good choice for a last minute weekend reservation when all the hot spots are booked up in its airy loft-like space. We weren't wowed by any of our dishes but did enjoy them. Arugula salad with shaved artichoke hearts seemed like a waste of money - artichoke had no flavor atop a salad that could easily be made at home (just arugula and olive oil). Stuffed calamari appetizer came 3 to a plate fora table of 4 - a little ridiculous, the server could have told the kitchen there are 4 of us to gain service points. A little too spinachy, could have used more cheese. Entrees were fantastic and we appreciated them being split in advance, although the seafood soup was unevenly split. Great chilled octopus salad."

  • "We went to Coco Pazzo because it was close to the Hotel. The food was terrific, service was top notch. Tab for 2 came out to $100, but included 2 glasses of wine, appetizer, entree's and desert. I would eat here again."

  • "My husband and I dined at Coco Pazzo while visiting Chicago last week. The dining room is lovely and inviting, the wait staff were attentive and gave us excellent recommendations based on our preferences. The wine list is impressive. The flavors and ingredients in each course were complex and interesting. A terrific meal from the first bite to the last and a lovely, memorable experience. "

  • "The prices are a little upscale, but the food and wine were excellent and the portions were sufficient. The staff was friendly, informative and attentive. Overall a great dining experience that I would recommend, especially for special occasions. "

  • "Had a very nice dinner at CoCo Pazzo. The appetizer, wine, entree and dessert were all very good. My only complaint was the pork chop - it was pounded and thin - not at all what I would have expected at this caliber of restaurant. That aside - everything else was great."

  • "Very friendly welcome and in general very good service. The Pinot Nero we chose was excellent and the Frito Misto and Quail very tasty. We also had esparagus and a pasta with fennel...both were so good that I look forward to go back and order them again. "

  • "The bellman at the Allerton Hotel recommended this restaurant to us. The food was truly exceptional and the service outstanding. We will return to Chicago and definitely have dinner at this restaurant. The entire staff was enthusiastic and went out of their way to help with everything from wine selections to calling a cab. We had a late reservation and called the restaurant, they had a cancelation so we were able to get in a littler earlier. The food was fresh, delicious, everything was prepared perfectly. Our wholehearted compliments to the chef and the establishment."

  • "I really enjoyed having lunch at Coco Pazzo. We ordered the Mozzarella di Bufala as an appetizer. It was very well presented and tasted delicious. For my lunch dish, I ordered a pizza. I liked the crispy and thin crust along with the toppings. The pizza took the same amount of time as my guest's dish did, and it was very fast service. Overall, it was a great experience. I would recommend Coco Pazzo and the lunch menu. "

  • "The food was great, the atmosphere nice and the staff friendly. However, they need to do something about the parking - for instance if you are going to be eating there they should have a ticket to place on your car. We dropped over 300.00 then had a 65.00 ticket on our car!"
