Diner Reviews
  • "Service was attentive and menu selections were extensive. Started with grilled octopus which was good, but prepared with a bit too much olive oil for my taste. Had the pasta special as my entree and that also was prepared with a lot of olive oil and possibly butter, although it was tasty. It wound up not feeling so well in the theatre after the meal. "

  • "Two colleagues and I ate at Coco Pazzo Cafe recently upon the recommendation of an other colleague. The food was absolutely delicious. Our only challenge was that we were seated at a table for four and despite only being three, the surface area was too small for plates, wine glasses and appetizer serving plates."

  • "Although the general staff is excellent and friendly we had a waiter who took a dislike to some guests of mine who were indecisive about what to order initially. He actually started to avoid coming back to the table and his dislike of the table was palpable. I had just brought a large party of my family the week before and a a good waiter. And my relatives returned twice in the same week. This waiter, however, ruined the experience. He clearly thought waiting was beneath him and that he can be selective about customers. Although I am Italian and like the food, I won't be returning or recommending Coco Pazzo Cafe for quite a while."

  • "Coco Pazzo Cafe never disappoints! I only have a difficult time trying to not gravitate to my favourites all the time! Everything I've had from the menu hits the spot in flavour and presentation. Service is attentive but not overbearing. It always deserves a re-visit - or a first visit if you haven't found this little, cozy gem."

  • "I have been to Coco Pazzo several times. The food was okay but not as good as usual. I had the lasagna and it was not up to snuff."

  • "Small portions but it did not matter since the food was not very good. Salad that was supposed to have crumbled blue cheese had one small "crumble". Soup was tasteless. Others present were also disappointed in their selections. The restaurant was almost empty yet our waiter only showed up once during lunch."

  • "We've been going to Coco Pazzo cafe for years and have never been disappointed. Great food, great ambiance!"

  • "It really is a very comfortable, friendly, low key, unpretentious setting with superb, straightforward Italian food. Utterly delicious food - the veal was terrific! There is never any fuss about splitting a dish - which I often do. I have been coming to Coco Pazzo Cafe since it opened. I like it much better than its big brother. As new restaurants come and go in my neighborhood - I keep coming back to Coco Pazzo Cafe. I brought a very dear friend to celebrate her birthday, and she kept saying, "I really, really like it here - and this is utterly delicious!""

  • "The spaghetti con vongole would have been delicious except for the excessive amount of chili pepper flakes added to it. I wish restaurants would warn patrons about heavy chili seasoning. Our friend ate very little of her dinner, and I suspect the same problem had occurred. We were so busy visiting--and Coco Pazzo has a lovely environment for a good visit with an old friend--that we never even discussed the food. Our waiters were wonderful--and one checked in a couple of times to ask if everything was all right...but I hadn't really discovered the chili pepper at that point. We enjoyed our evening, but the dinner was only okay."

  • "I've visited Coco Pazzo Cafe now and then for many years. I return because the service is always courteous, nobody is ever rude or unkind. The linguine with clams is cooked with too much garlic, exactly as it should be, and delicious. They make a wonderful Caesar Salad, and their foccacia is the best in town. Portions were never enormous, and they seem to be getting smaller lately, that's a shame, lettuce and linguine cost nothing, but CPC is still a good place for a bite to eat, and in summer, their outdoor terrace is well-located for people watching, a great choice."

  • "Whenever we are in Chicago we make sure to make a stop at Coco Pazzo Cafè. We even pick the hotel so that we are within walking distance. Great for lunch and dinner! I am originally from Italy (Tuscany), and the food here reminds me of home!"

  • "We went a bit early so there were not a huge amount of people there. My husband and I both ordered the pasta special, a pappardelle type pasta with asparagus and mushrooms in a light mushroom broth. It was outstanding! I had just a basic salad which was fine, my only complaint being I asked for the dressing on the side and it came as a solid as opposed to liquid entity! Impossible to put on a salad and very unappetizing. I used the olive oil from the bread. The entrees more than made up for it, they were very good. Service was fine, all in all a nice Friday dinner."

  • "Our group was celebrating a special occassion in the medical field. It was convenient for us that this location was so close to the neighboring hospitals. The service was excellent as well as the food."

  • "Coco Pazzo has become a favorite place for lunch. They have such a nice variety of interesting lunch items, prices are moderate, and the environment is great for visiting. Food and service are great."

  • "HAve been here for lunch in the msummer; enjoyed. This time the place was lackadasical. My wife had overcooked and dry chicken. Her caesar salad was wilted and flavorless.

  • "Coco Pazzo offers tasty, reasonably-priced Italian cuisine and very pleasant atmosphere. The place is sophisticated enough for date night, but not so stuffy that you'd feel out of place if you showed in a nice pair of jeans and decent shirt shirt looking for a hearty and satisfying meal. The wine list is nicely varied, both in stylistic range and price (we got a very nice Montepucciano for thirty bucks) and the bruschetta was great. Given the options on the Mile (mostly upscale chain restaurants, hugely overpriced steak houses, and unmitigated tourist traps) Coco Pazzo is welcome alternative."

  • "When I lived in Illinois, I used to eat here whenever I came to Chicago. Now that I'm in New York City, I still do the same. Still lovely food and atmosphere. Ate there twice in January--the specials were wonderful, the server and chef accommodated my special requests for different sides for my plate. The Greppicante red wine was fabulous! Everything about this place I love. it's comfortable too--not a scene."

  • "The Coco Pazzo website announced that the restaurant was participating in restaurant week, and even listed the restaurant week menu on the website. But at the restaurant, we were told they were not participating. We were a bit disappointed, and would not have made a reservation if we had known. This was false advertising, and Coco Pazzo needs to be more consistent in how they present information."

  • "It has been several years since I had gone to coco pazzo cafe and my previous experience had been very good so I was excited to go back. The food was average at best. I had the pappardelle with wild boar ragu which was tasty, but it was difficult to eat because the noodles were stuck together in one clump under the sauce. It was as if the noodles had been sitting there for a while before it was sauced and served. My fiancé had the lasagna which he said was bland and not much different than a frozen dinner. The service was great, however when they gave me a new spoon for my dessert, it had food residue on it. I do not think I will be coming back here. It was just ok and definitely not worth the price."

  • "Everything about Coco Pazzo Cafe was wonderful. They accomadated our delayed arrival to Chicago and allowed us to change our dinner time at the last minute. The staff was delightful and friendly. The waitstaff was knowledgable about the food, offering wine suggestions to accompany our dinners. We were seated at a quiet table by the window. There were four of us and every meal was a hit. We would pick this restaurant every time we are in Chicago."

  • "Loved the compliments of sauteed spinach and white beans with my salmon filet. Also nice to have bread served - would have liked to have olive oil and para cheese on the table. Great neighborhood feeling restaurant and great to take your suburban visitors to."

  • "Coco Pazzo Cafe' is missing an opportunity to be a really fine cafe' in the heart of Streeterville and on the NMHC campus. The resaurant has too many tables and guests are literally sitting on top of each other. The noise level is disturbing, beyond energetic. What's that all about? The restaurant is very cold. It is very distracting. The servers do not smile or engage the diners. It seems as if they are not very happy. I will recommend the restaurant because the food is wonderful."

  • "The cafe is a favorite lunch spot. They have wonderful specials and the wait staff are the perfect blend of being attentive, but not annoying. Food is very good. The pasta dishes are great and they usually have a few fish selections. They are also very good. They have a busy lunch crowd so reservations are highly recommended."

  • "Reliable on all counts: food, service and ambience. We've patronized Coco Pazzo Café for many years, brunch, lunch and dinner and have never been disappointed. Wait staff extremely knowledgeable about wine pairings. Closest experience to a meal in a Paris neighborhood that Chicago has to offer."

  • "This was my first visit to the restaurant and enjoyed the food immensely. I had a great pork loin with potato, and they provided my son with calimari. Rich and delicious. The calamari was well cooked and extremely tender. Desserts wer tira misu and a simple ice cream in espresso. The seating was a bit tight, but staff were well trained and added to the experience."

  • "Veal scallopini should have a very nicely seasoned sauce. This one was almost flavorless and the veal was overcooked. My friend had the duck. The description sounded very nice: duck with poached pear and polenta. I don't know how it tasted; my friend did not comment. But the food on her plate looked not at all appealing - everything was the same light brown color and you could't see that there were three different things on the plate. Very blah. I expected much better for the prices."
