  • "I took my wife and two teenage daughters here for dinner. I read a lot of comments beforehand. We avoided sitting by the bar. Atmosphere is really nice! I would have to say the wood, brick, and draperies were extremely well done! The food was very good. The Sea Bass was very notable. The flourless chocolate cake was exceptional. We brought our own wine. That was the primary service failure. It was a 13 year old bottle of Cabernet. It was apparent the waiter had no idea how to treat a bottle like this. He did uncork it for the $35 corking fee, but nothing else. We had to ask to decant. No offer to aerate or filter. Much less depth of service than I have received at other 4+ star restaurants. The service of the meal was fine."

  • "The place itself was beautiful, great ambience, nice bar. I was really disappointed in the food, however, for the caliber of restaurant it is billed as. I ordered the veal chop, and first off, the cut of meat was extremely fatty. I order veal chops fairly frequently and typically enjoy them a lot. I was expecting a lot better of a cut of meat than what they offered. I also did not find the flavor that appealling. We have perhaps the most amazing Italian restaurant I've eaten at within the US, oddly enough in Sheboygan Wisconsin, called Trattoria Stefano's, and his black truffle veal chop absolutely blows the doors off of this one. In addition, the staff was very clinical, and not as warm and engaging as I'd have liked."

  • "The soup starters we ordered were both good, and my wife liked her gnochetti. The daily special I ordered was inconsistent, as the duck breast was quite good (mostly due to a great sauce) but the leg confit was so dry it was essentially inedible. Service was middling."

  • "We went out with a couple of our very good friends. Overall we had a great time. The good was excellent and many different wine options. There were only a couple of things to make mention. We were brought out a dish that we did not order and ended up paying for because they thought we ordered that as well. We ordered a second bottle of wine and had it poured in a decanter. We did not finish the bottle of wine and wanted to take the rest to go. They had thrown our wine bottle and cork away so we had to use a different wine bottle that had to be rinsed out. Really wasn't any good by the time we brought it home that night to have another glass. Other than that everything was great."

It is our favorite restaurant in Chicago, not only because it does everything (food, service, et al.) exceptionally well but also because the staff clearly treats you like a welcome, special guest. That is a talent that has disappeared over the years & nobody does it better than Coco Pazzo. They make you feel good when you are greeted at the door, as you enjoy your meal & when you walk out the door. If you haven't tried Coco Pazzo, you're missing a rare dining experience."

My mushroom appetizer was outstanding and my husband's salad was exceptional. Our main courses of steak and fish were also wonderful. I can't wait to return."

  • "Always had good experiences here in the past. Not this time. The service was horrible. Our server took about 10-15 minutes to acknowledge our presence and disappeared for long stretches of time. The Maitre d tried to make up for it by stopping by to check on our wine, but then he forgot to bring it. To his credit, once we reminded him, he apologized and comped the glass of wine for us. It really wasn't that busy so I'm not sure what the server's problem was."

A Roman couple once characterized it as the most reminiscent of their home town restaurants of any they had tried in the United States. That is above my pay grade; it is simply the most authentic in my experience across the past 40 years."

  • "Coco Pazzo has been a wonderful restaurant for many years. It is a classic. The food is scrumptious, although I miss the days when the "insalata di carciofini" really was all artichokes. Oh well -- it's still good with greens and artichokes. It's really a great place for lunch or dinner for those who appreciate great great food that is creative Italian in an environment that permits conversation and where service is attentive but unobtrusive."

  • "My husband and I ordered 2 different salads, both were delicious, but one had way too much fava beans. Liver pate was creamy and good, but slightly room temperature...as if they left out for a while (I prefer my pate little chilled for better texture). My husband ordered the whole sea bass (simple, but flavorful). I ordered the squid ink pasta, which was amazing! I recommend this dish to everyone! Lastly we ordered Crostata di Mele and Torta for desserts. I personally did not like the Crostata, the apple tart was little mushy, wasn't crispy at all, but Torta was delicious! Overall the experience was great and I generally did enjoy the food."

They could probably take out a few tables - both to lessen the claustrophobic feeling from sitting almost on top of your neighbor and allow the overstretched staff to have enough time to service the tables."

  • "My sister, my niece and my daughter were in Chicago for a mother/daughter shopping trip. We decided to have dinner at Coco Pazzo! We were so pleased with the attentive service and the excellent food! The only thing that I was somewhat displeased about was getting the "extra" seating near the bar with the low stacking chairs. More than likely set up for the overflow, however, I had made my reservation 3 weeks prior. The food and service made up for the uncomfortable chairs. "

  • "Coco Pazzo is a good choice for a last minute weekend reservation when all the hot spots are booked up in its airy loft-like space. We weren't wowed by any of our dishes but did enjoy them. Arugula salad with shaved artichoke hearts seemed like a waste of money - artichoke had no flavor atop a salad that could easily be made at home (just arugula and olive oil). Stuffed calamari appetizer came 3 to a plate fora table of 4 - a little ridiculous, the server could have told the kitchen there are 4 of us to gain service points. A little too spinachy, could have used more cheese. Entrees were fantastic and we appreciated them being split in advance, although the seafood soup was unevenly split. Great chilled octopus salad."
