Diner Reviews
  • "We've visited Coco Laurent several times since its very splashy opening. We've met friends at the bar for drinks and a nosh; we've taken out-of-towners for lunch on the patio; we've had dinner a few times. Every time we're left with the same sort of disappointment -- it always feels like we're being served by someone who is waiting tables for the very first time. The food is OK, but for the prices on this menu, it's not a good value. The website menu bears only passing resemblance to the printed menu. Nothing bad happens, but it always falls a little flat. If I'm going to pay money for someone to cook, carry the plates and wash the dishes -- all of which I can do for myself, pretty well -- it needs to be special!"

  • "This was my third visit to Coco Laurent since Valentine's Day. They have very good food, conscientiously prepared, and solid service. They have very good seafood entrees, especially their yellowtail ann bouillabaisse. Their sides, including the brussels sprouts and the ratatouille, are also first rate. Their Penicillin cocktail for only $5 is a steal and delicious. Despite so many good restaurants Downtown, Coco L has become a regular haunt. Parking can be tricky, but the valet across the street at Bottega Louie will park your car for $8."

  • "My first time, and I very much enjoyed the experience. Fine waiter, Eddie, and the staff attentive, always. Good portion size and beautifully presented. I will return with friends!"

  • "Food was good, but nothing special. The restaurant hardly has any vegetarian option."

  • "Thoughtful preparation and excellent ingredients make this a terrific bistro for both the food and cocktails. The recent grilled watermelon salad with lobster and rocket was a standout. Both the steak frites and the yellowtail were very tasty. We both enjoyed the Penicillin cocktail and it was a delicious sturdy drink with high quality ice. Parking across the street with the valets at Louie was painless. The service was quick, discreet yet attentive, and informed. Coco Laurent is great and a very good value for the high quality food they serve.. The place could use some art on the walls to make it more welcoming, but the service and food were simply first-rate. We'll definitely be back."

  • "I love the ambiance of Coco Laurent. It is such a great spot for a romantic date. The food is satisfying but not anything particularly special. The Mac and cheese is a must!!!"

  • "Great food, beautiful place. Besides the homelessan that asked for food during dinner it was great. That was of no fault to the restaurant. If you wanna eat outside along the street, you deal with the street. But the place is beautiful, staff was attentive and accommodating."

  • "I was dining around the corner when I noticed this restaurant. It looked like such a cool place to eat at so when I saw this restaurant was participating in Dine LA, I thought this is the perfect opportunity to give this place a try. I ended up not ordering from the Dine LA menu because as it turns out, it was CHEAPER to order each dish separate than to pay for it as a dinner set. That was kind of a turn off for me.Felt a bit tricked. Moving on to the food.. It turns out Monday is all day happy hour. Tuna crudo is a must try, we ordered 2. Crispy belly was delicious. Garlic shrimps were ok. However, my best dish for the night was soup of the day (Monday), cream of mushroom but the mushrooms were blended to add more thickness. Delicious!!"

  • "The duck was good. The steak was cold. The service was decent in the beginning except at the end when it got busy. The servers where no where in sight. My party had to wait 30 mins trying to flag any waiter down to take our bill. I expect if we are paying 20% gratuity that they work for it."

  • "Very expensive for what you get there were 4 of us and it was $75 a person"

  • "Went during LA Dine week. Kale salad appetizer was very good but tuna was not. Salmon was over cooked, but BBQ burger was good. Fries were mediocre. Overall it was okay for $25, but not worth for standard price."

  • "There is a reason why they often get reviewed badly. My family loves french bistro and we decided to give it a go despite the horrible yelp reviews. There were 6 of us and we only saw our actual waiter like 3x he was so lousy. Our food literally took 3 hours. Food was not bad but it was expensive and portions were children size. We paid 350 and since it was 6 of us the waiter helped himself to a 48 dollar gratuity he didn't deserve. Horrible. We could have gone to yard house and ordered similar food and spent less band wouldn't have ordered pizza at home an hour later. What really made me mad was that I ordered a diet coke, it set me back 4 dollars and was only refilled once. Horrible experience!"

  • "Coco Laurent is a place to which I'll definitely return, much like its inspiration city. The ambiance is dark and warm, with just the right amount of access to the outdoors via the large patio. Service was personable and attentive, and I got a great wine recommendation. The food was also fantastic -- truffle fries with aioli, gnocchi, fried artichokes -- all were delicately flavored and left everyone at the table satisfied."

  • "No brunch drink specials, good was good but overpriced for portion & presentation."

  • "The food here is rather bland, and quite mediocre. The service is polite, but lacking sophistication. The setting is beautiful, but it was rather empty on a Saturday night. I would not dine here again in the evening, but I bet it's a hot spot for a business lunch."

  • "We had dinner at Coco Laurent on a busy Friday evening. Service was attentive and excellent; food was very good. This is a good choice for a nice dinner in downtown Los Angeles. I have also been there for lunch recently and had a good experience then also."

  • "Service is very pleasant, food is good, bar is well stocked, and sitting outdoors watching the vibrancy and diversity of downtown L. A. flow past you as you eat and drink is great. The roasted chicken tasted good, and my specialty cocktail was better."

  • "The location is very nice with an outside coffee and liquor bar great for an evening. The food is not overly complicated with a great veriety. It is a bit noise with buses going buy but a nice libation to sit outside. Portions were the right size."
