Diner Reviews
  • "Food is creative and succulent. The service matches the high quality of the food. Cocina Abierta is must for any serious foodie."

  • "We've heard about Cocina Abierta from friends who love it. This was a special night out dinner. We found the helpings adequate. Especially loved the onion soup, the spareribs and the scallops. While I would appreciate a quieter atmosphere, in Puerto Rico it's the luck of the draw. Unfortunately too many parents don't understand that their kids aren't at the center of everyone else's attention. The staff understood our preference for kids-free dining but there was no place else to put us. We came for the food and that didn't disappoint. We will certainly be back."

  • "Really amazing flavors and awesome cocktails, in a nice ambience with attentive service. The only down side was the portions size. I well understand that it's a tasting menu concept, but few dishes (e.g. Goat Cheese Cannelloni, with 1 small cannelloni on the plate) were way too scarce to leave any kind of fulfillment or satisfaction. IMHO a bit more generous portions would make the experience much more enjoyable, without sacrificing any style or elegance."

  • "One of the best eateries in PR!!! The menu is impressive, but not overly extensive. Very reasonably priced. Each item we ordered was prepared from scratch and was simply excellent. Our group of 3 received our dishes all at the same time and each was piping hot. Wine list is comprehensive and not overpriced. This is a real gem!! Mostly upscale locals on a Thurs night and they were well dressed and attractive. Our waiter was a super attentive Argentine. A very friendly man and totally knowledgeable about both the menu and wine list. If you're staying at the Marriott, this a must try choice. Make reservations or you might face a long wait after 7 pm. Definitely fit for foodies and fashionistas."

  • "Food was excellent. My recommendation is to try the fried calamari, the onion soup and the best of all were the ricotta gnocchis (it's a side plate). Love the place! If you like wine they have excellent recommendations. Try to choose a table far from the kitchen so your clothes don't end up smelling as meat."

  • "Food was spectacular. But the kitchen is super slow. Plus We ordered champagne and it was served almost at room temperature. The brought us another one and it was just as warm :(. The food's great."

  • "I recently had the opportunity to dine in the new location for Cocina Abierta. The menu underwent some changes featuring 4 different small courses to allow for a broader tasting experience. All the entrees were tasty and large enough not to be considered a tapa but small to allow for sampling 2-4 different plates depending on your appetite. There was a very varied selection of wines by the glass with recommendations on the pairing for each course, which I found very flexible and convenient. The place was crowded and reservation is highly recommended. There is limited parking space in front of the property but no valet. There is additional parking next to the restaurant for a fee."

  • "Last week a joined a group of friends for our typical wine tasting evening. We chose Cocina Abierta because we are familiar with food but also because of their offer of free corkage mondays-wednesday. We opened several bottles of wine, and enjoyed several appetizers (we did not order a full meal this time). The restaurant was not too busy and the service was just outstanding! The food was great, particularly the onion soup, the croquettes and the pork belly on steamed buns. I would recommend this place to anyone without hesitation... And we hope to be back soon!"

  • "This is our second time at this restaurant and the menu has always impressed us. The food is very tasty and creative. Starting with the onion and squash soups, the squid pinchos, the manchego cheese croquettes with the tomatoes jam, the Moroccan chicken pie, the seared tuna and finishing with the lemon tart everything was excellent. Eat until yesterday from the doggie bag. Definitely will return."

  • "I had been hearing good things about Cocina Abierta and they did not disappoint! The food was delicious and tge service was outstanding (very accomadating). I would definitely recommend it. And if you make it there soon, take advantage of the prix fixe menu for only $36. The black truffle croquettes and New York Strip with Gorgonzola sauce were delicious appetizer and entree options...enjoy!"

  • "The food was excellent and well-executed. The flavors were vibrant. The serving staff were personable. The croquettes lived up to their reputation. It was everything others said it would be. I'm looking forward to going back and inviting others to try it out."

  • "I've come to this restaurant before (like 4 times) and had a great time, but in this occasion the food was delayed for 2 hours. The problem is that in a party of 4, 3 were having dinner here for the first time, so the disaster with the food timing was so bad that I even had a hard time convincing myself of returning to the place, lets not say anything about the other 3 people. The blame was put by the manager on the kitchen and a new pre-fixed menu they were offering. A pretty bad move or bad planning if it was true. And one of the plates came cold...after 2 hours of waiting. Also, I made a reservation through OpenTable and they didn't honored it...I was not on any list of reservations."

  • "This time my favorite dish at this restaurant, which is the duck mofongo, was not right. There seemed to be an excess of some condiment or herb that was too strong and spoiled this great dish. The ham and manchego cheese croquetas were excellent, as was the moroccan chicken. Service was better than usual. Although hugely disappointed by the duck mofongo, I will be back."

  • "The restaurant is superb and the servers are a gem. Best food i have had in a long time. Was soooo good that the next day went to Nonnas ( from the same owner) and was equally good or better ?"

  • "Excellent food the Mediterranean Chicken Phyllo pie was to die for! The fries with the hamburger were so tasty and delicate too!! Loved the food and service was amiable and efficient, I strongly recommend it.Would not sit outdoors since there is loud Musac from the neighboring locales."

  • "I had heard lots of good things about this restaurant. It was nice, but very small. The tables are very close together. I went on a date and felt like I couldn't talk freely because the couple next to us was practically seated at the same table. The food was OK, I expeted better. Pricey for what it really is. It was fine to go just once, but wouldn't go again."

  • "The croquetas and the duck mofongo are outstanding, as is the NY Sirloin. Service needs to improve."

  • "Tucked out in the quiet neighborhood of Guaynabo, Cocina Abierta offers an astonishing array of creative dishes. The execution of Chef Martin Louzao and his team of talented chefs is on point. From the presentation to the combination of flavors and ingredients, Cocina Abierta offers an extraordinary experience. Highly recommended!"

  • "Amazing food,. He changes his menu constantly an always has you on your toes. You really cannot find a more creative chef in this area. He takes risks with flavors and has a incredible talent for food. Im in love with the place. And the Taste adn Cheers activity every month is AMAZING. The chef just get compeltely creative with every dish, no menu, just dished passing by and you decide. The only problem is the decision aprt because ALL look great and ALL taste amazing."

  • "Overall its ok, but for the price I paid for the tuna fille is definitely not worth. The fille, though well cooked, it lacked flavor, it wasn't seasoned at all."

  • "While the food was truly extraordinary, the space is too crowded and more importantly too warm. The temperature of the indoor dining area detracted considerably from the overall experience. The tables are also too small. Great food, not so good locale."
