CochonWorth a detourHigh-concept and highly successful tapas/entrée restaurant. Everything we ordered was well executed and delicious, and the bill was reasonable given the quality of mwhat we had.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMNo Louisiana Hot Sauce NeededA bottle of the ubiquitous red stuff is on the table, but don't reach for it. We had livers on toast with a jelly garnish, the roasted oysters, pork cheeks and the catfish in court bouillon. Everything popped with perfect flavor combos. This was our second lunch here. May have to try dinner on one of our trips.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousThe lowly pig stars here. The food is delicious. Unless you're at the convention center it's a bit out of the way but definitely worth the trip. Try any dish with green tomatoes. Flavors and creativity star here. The craft cocktails are great.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWow, the food. An adventureWe went for lunch because dinner reservations were booked. This is an adventure, with exciting dishes that deliver. Fun to try lots of stuff. I highly recommend this but book in advance5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMQuite different than our experienceQuite different than our experiences there before. Pedestrian, little flavor, questionable execution. Baked oysters were fine, though pepper sauce tasted simply like bottled thrown on. Cucumbers over-vinegared; boudin balls over-breading and insufficient heat rendered bland; crawfish baked dish too dry. The grilled shrimp and fresh toppings were, however, perfect. Left us disappointed, perhaps just an off day for the kitchen.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe wanted to order everythingWe wanted to order everything on the menu and what we ordered was perfect. Great coctails and wine list as well. Helpful and friendly wait staff.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat menu, service aloof. The much-reviewed Cochon was a good, but not outstanding, experience for us. The menu is interesting and varied casual meaty fare, offering such ingredients as rabbit and oysters. All food was tasty and arrived quickly and hot.
Maybe they take the team approach for service, but after our food arrived, the wait staff did not visit our table at all to offer drink refills or check how the food tasted. A restaurant of this caliber should check on diners after food is received. I realize I could have flagged-down someone, as there seemed to be many wait staff persons milling about, but I really should not have to need to do that.
All in all, we had a good eating experience despite the service flaws.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMCochon was one of the bestCochon was one of the best dining experiences I had in NOLA. The food was cooked to perfection and the menu was clearly well-thought out. There was a variety of dishes, most with unusually but pleasing combinations, and there were also some hometown favorites. Our service was the best combination of always there to help but never overbearing. I can't wait to go back!4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply delicious! Our waitressSimply delicious! Our waitress was excellent, and helped guide our party of 6 through the menu with all the right recommendations. The low key atmosphere is very welcoming and comfortable, which is a rare find for such a hot spot. A must go for any trip to NOLA.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was very good, serviceFood was very good, service was good. Very nice restaurant. I had the beef shoulder, my boyfriend had the ham hock. They were both delicious.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, horrible chairs.Simply wonderful. Sadly we weren't that hungry for lunch, but split the chicken lovers and had a cochon main and a drum special. Every bite was superb. My second time here. What a perfect dining experience (other than those torture rack chairs)!4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMI was so excited to try CochonI was so excited to try Cochon during a long weekend visiting New Orleans. I was not disappointed! The oysters were delicious, as was the strawberry arugula salad and oyster bacon sandwich. Our group had the pork ribs and a sandwich special as well, and everything was fabulous. Simple ingredients, complex flavors. Can't wait to go back!4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWKZThe moment you purchase your airline tickets to New Orleans, if not sooner, you ought to make reservations at Cochon. In one of the greatest cities for foodies, Cochon continues to shine.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMNot to be missed boucheriePineapple upside down cake topped off a killer meal. Rabbit and dumplings were served up home style with a flair. Be sure not to miss the boucherie plate of artisan meats just outstanding4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMTop Notch Food & Svc...GREAT place! We just barely made our 9:30pm Wed res due to delayed flights but thank god we did!! As visitors to NOLA, my fiance (1st-timer) & I rushed from checking into our hotel to Cochon & had one of the best meals of our stay. It is a walk-able distance from the FQ, energetic & seems to have plenty of local support, & the service is top-notch & friendly! I do wish we'd made a different entree-selection- after several small plates, we thought sharing the rabbit & dumplings would do but it wasn't much to share & we kind of wished we'd tried some other things. Call it a lesson learned & all the more reason to find our way back. Also, the Swinekiller & Orange Whiskey cocktails are outstanding - they just might go down a little too easy!!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMLunch was awesome. I had aLunch was awesome. I had a hard time ordering because I wanted to try so many things our waiter suggested that i just order a few Appetizers in which I did I order four and love all of them. When i was leaving the restaurant I notice down the street a sign BUTCHER
I walk down to see what that was all about Very cool butcher shop/ deli/ Sausage restaurant (I hope I describe it right) I want to try some more goodies but I was too full from lunch....... It seem like the two places were of the same owner.....Maybe next time I am in the area.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMTrying to hard to be terribly hipFood was great decor attractive my only problem was the bizarre haircuts and head to toe tattoos on the servers trying oh so hard to be east village terribly hip its so tired and the cdb isn't the east village they didnt fit the place at all4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ambiance-casual, fun,Great ambiance-casual, fun, rustic look. food was fantastic. tried a lot of the apps including char-grilled oysters, alligator, grilled shrimp and my favorite was the pork cheek terrine (i wanted to order ten more). Tiger's eye Margarita was awesome. wish i had been hungrier to try more.
great place.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful restaurant withWonderful restaurant with excellent food.
We walked quite a lot as located in remote area but good is worth it.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways excellentWe've been to Cochon numerous times and have been very happy. Top notch, fresh, local food prepared in unique ways. We tell anybody going to NOLA to get to Cochon!3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFoodie heaven! Loved the oystersFoodie heaven! Loved the oysters and pork dishes... Cochon butcher next door is also amazing - the best Brussels sprouts in the world, hands down!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AM"peasant" food executed with skill"peasant" food done with the skill of gifted gourmet chefs. Elegant and creative balance of flavors from the deep-fried chicken livers with pepper jelly to the truly outstanding smoked ham hock, it is clear that great time, effort and care went into crafting each dish and the menu as a whole.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is Susan Spicer's olderThis is Susan Spicer's older restaurant. We are New York foodies. I am not a big meat eater so I had my doubts but they vanished at the door. The smells were amazing. First clue that we were home was that the fabric on the comfortable chairs matched chairs at home. I started with the best salad of our trip, roasted broccoli, green beans, fried onions, mustard greens, bbq pecans with poblano ranch dressing. Our waitress suggest a small side of mac and cheese and I was in adult heaven enjoying it after roast oysters and washing it all down with a lovely bottle of Schug Pinot Noir. Strawberry pocket pie with sour cream ice cream sent us over the edge. Perfect evening.Highly recommend. Oh yeah, my husband loved the pork.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMVisiting from SF and foundVisiting from SF and found this place by review from a NOLA friend. Above and beyond the rest of the cuisine we tried during a 3 day stay. Phenomenal rib appetizer, palate pleasing wood fired oysters (best I've ever had- fresh, light, lovely), balanced flavorful gumbo with fresh and dried shrimp. Mee likely.
Came back the next day for lunch but we were too early. Just around the corner is Butcher, their sandwich shop. Smaller variety, but equally pleasing for meat lovers.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent in all aspects,Excellent in all aspects, truly an ode to the pig!3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb!Amazing food - everything we had was superb. Next time we are in NOLA Cochon is on the list of places not to miss.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was wonderful butThe food was wonderful but the server really hustled us out at the end of the meal3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAll of our food selectionsAll of our food selections turned out great. Good wine and good service staff. Nice experience.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant, I will be back.I wonder how many car crashes the patio diners have witnessed. Couldn't be on a more terrifying streetcorner, but all the action is in the intersection, so never fear, and enjoy that gumbo.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMost memorable NOLA mealOur most memorable meal not only in New Orleans, during our recent vacation there, but also most memorable in a while. We dine often in Boston and New York and we were blown away by the deliciousness of every single bite. We indulged in small plates, apps and entree and dessert and even though we were rolling out of the place, could not have been happier than to have taken each of those bites. We did not think the portions were small. Flavors were outstanding.
We were visiting from out of town and therefore had our 2 small children with us. They were very accommodating.
It really was the highlight of our trip...plus we got to sit outside, which was treat, given we had just left a snowstorm in Boston.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMTasty!I like the fact that you can be adventurous try on as many dishes of appetizer as you want without breaking a bank. The dishes are thoughtful and fun.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe restaurant was way tooThe restaurant was way too cold which made it less enjoyable.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMO B O L T =AWESOMELY YUMAwesome - tried five dishes and two sides and all were excellent. I definitely recommend the bacon and oyster sandwich. It is really a oblt - oyster bacon lettuce and tomato! Crunchy perfectly fried oysters, great smoked bacon tomatoes shredded lettuce with mayo on two slices of toast - just thinking about it makes me want to fly back to Nola for lunch.3/2/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall a great experience!Fun atmosphere. The tables were fairly close to one another which turned out to be quite a positive feature: We found ourselves interacting with our fellow patrons to either side, sharing both opinions and tastes. The most difficult thing was limiting our selections from the menu such that we didn't look like "cochons" ourselves. The Wood-fired Oyster Roast goes hands down is simply one of the best oyster dishes I've eaten! Fried alligator with chili garlic aioli: Uncharacteristically both tender and savory! Oyster and bacon sandwich: Wow! Louisiana cochon with turnips, cabbage, pickled turnips & cracklins (their signature dish) did not disappoint. Wine selections were quite affordable and enjoyable. Overall a great experience!2/26/2013 12:00:00 AMService lagging.Don't rest on your laurels Cochon, I hope our service experience was the exception, not the rule. Bartender was gruff and inattentive, our server was nice but we felt invisible 80% of the time. A busser (who should be promoted) kicked in and saved the lunch for us.2/22/2013 12:00:00 AMSecond visit as good as theSecond visit as good as the first. We will visit every time we go to New orleans. Great bourbon list, great small plate list. We had the fried boudin (don't miss), pork cheek (fork tender), Mac n cheese (just OK), Louisiana cochon (highlight of the food, tender pork shoulder)
Service was knowledgeable and friendly, not over bearing in any way.12/27/2012 12:00:00 AM
