"The chicken livers were the best thing we ate the entire meal. Pork dishes were overly greasy and were not paired with sides that complemented the meats. A heavy pork entree would be better suited to lighter sides with contrasting textures, colors, and flavors. Otherwise you leave feeling like you've eaten a plate lunch. Outside dining at night needs a little more light near or on tables so you can see what you are served."

"PROS: simply amazing cochon de lait, i.e. suckling pig stuffed with pulled shoulder of the same pork; really good shrimp apps in a spicy brown sauce (piquant?); and fabulous spicy, sort of pickle-y cucumber salad. CONS: chicken livers on toast overwhelmed by pepper jelly; the WORST greens I have ever eaten (very under-cooked with a sweet (balsamic reduction?) dressing; and a waitress who when asked for a variety of things (e.g. an IPA) said, "Oh, I don't like that. I'd have the [in that case, brown ale] instead." IN BETWEEN: blah mac & cheese, blah rabbit & dumplings, and a blah wine list."

"The chef has a rather greasy palate for my taste. The amberjack was a tad fishy, as amberjack tends to be. I asked for fresh lemon and it helped to balance the flavors of the dish, which was a mix of earthy, oily flavors with no counterbalance. For the price, the food lacked subtlety. The venue is beautiful, the service was stellar, and the dessert was amazing-a warm, sticky chocolate cake-pudding with pralinee syrup and ice cream."

"The service was very good - food just OK. The food was fairly significantly over salted; that, however, seems to be typical of food in and around New Orleans. The oyster and bacon sandwich was very tasty, though almost impossible to eat as a sandwich as the bread was very thin and fell apart before the sandwich was half eaten. The rest was finished with a knife and fork. The smothered greens were delicious except for that oversalting thing going on. Ambience was a bit disappointing as Cochon is in a brand new building that is relatively non-descript and the interior a bit sparse. It could have been any restaurant in any location."

"We had a group of four people for dinner at Cochon-Lafayette, and everyone liked their dishes. We all agreed that the service was excellent, but one disappointment felt by our group: the portion of the side dish was way to small for the price charged."

"Went with my wife for an early Valentines day dinner. Was exceptionally good, and we will be back again. I had the fried chicken liver appetizer with the cochon plate with grits. My wife had the soup du jour (baked potato) as her appetizer and a meal of mac and cheese with a shrimp dish off the small plate menu. We both enjoyed our meal and the service was adequate. The only thing that could improve is the drink menu. My wife wanted an apple martini which is a drink you can get at any restaurant in Lafayette and they said they couldn't make it. Found that to be a little odd."

"The food was decent here, but we had to wait 2 hours for our main course. Unacceptable. The highly touted baked oysters are a waste. Decent, but you are better off at almost any place that serves grilled oysters. The highly touted gumbo (by Southern Living) was so so. If you want Gumbo, drive a little futher down to Landry's Seafood and Steak House in New Iberia. There, you will get truly good gumbo."
