Our server was friendly, and as prompt as the bustling atmosphere would allow. Our food was excellent. Our scallops & fried oysters were truly superbly prepared, and our server suggested splitting a house salad, which allowed us a bit of green without spoiling our appetites our entrees. We got there around 5:30, so we were one of the first tables seated. The smaller menu was complemented by at least ten daily specials, including fresh oysters on the half shell - which were delectable, served on a bed of ice with lemon, cocktail sauce and garlic vinegar. Two had the grilled salmon special which came with lemon rosemary butter. I had grilled leg of lamb, which was excellent - not at all gamey. None of us had dessert. Overall I will think of Coastal the next time I am in Virginia Beach. They have lots of selections as well as off menu items. I had tuna which can be tricky to get right and they did. The acorn squash was perfect and an unusual find and the salad greens were special with a terrific dressing. Plus, they serve excellent bread with slabs of butter. I am going back in another week with out of town guests. The atmosphere was casual, the wait staff friendly along with good meal presentation and service timing. My guest had never been there -- she loved it -- the acorn squash is to die for! my favorite waitress was still there after many years-- unbelievable in this business. The only thing i would suggest is more vegetarian dishes . The kitchen will do a vegetarian plate with what they have -- but it would be nice to have some specific vegetarian dishes.
