The chef waved hello from the kitchen with a big smile. The barkeep also gave a big smile and friendly hello. It arrived in a layered glass jar and the ingredients were all so fresh. I loved the addition of the edamame in the salad. I had the lobster boil for my entree and it was delicious, lots of fresh seafood and I had mine made sans sausage. My boyfriend had the fish tacos to to start and then ordered the chicken entree. I've never been for dinner but think it would be excellent then too. The food is 'fit for foodies' - one of the very best seafood restaurants in St. Louis. The portions are large. The price is very reasonable. I had "shrimp & grits", which is a southern favorite and a "stick to your ribs" staple. But they take it to a gourmet level. I can't believe how delicious it is. I also love the fish tacos and the salmon burger is the best I've ever had. Ever. I get their soup specials from time to time and they are also excellent. The atmosphere is upscale but casual. You'll see folks in suits for lunch and jeans too. Service is excellent and unpretentious. I enjoyed it so much that I went back two times in one week after going for happy hour. Service is good but not great, although very pleasant. The salmon sliders and potstickers are great with cocktails and it is hard to beat the $1 an oyster at happy hour. For lunch the mini lobster roll is awesome. It looks small, but it is mightly filling and the chunks of lobster are sweet and tender. We started with a bottle of Riff Pinot Griegio and the poached apple salad and fish tacos. The salad was excellent was tasty cheese that went well with the apples. I had the shrimp and scallop entree, and it was delish! The bf had the lobster mac and was pleased that they did not skimp on the claw meat. We will continue to keep this place in our rotation:)3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden seafood gem in ClaytonThis is the third time we've decided to go to Coastal, and have never been dissapointed. We've gone twice for dinner and once for lunch (all on weekends. The cuisine is creative with a great deal of attention to detail. The service is attentive and friendly, and will easily accommodate special requests. I would strongly recommend te pan-seared trout for dinner, it was absolutely spectacular...but if you go for lunch, the lobster grille cheese is a must have - it's just overflowing with lobster! Any time you decide to go, though, make sure and get the oysters (definitely the best I've had in town). We will definitely be back, and highly recommend this place to anyone that enjoys seafood.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThe fish nachos were great!The fish nachos were great! I was hoping to order an entree but the waitress didn't return to our table in a timely period. By the time she came back our appetizers were being delivered; we had a fixed time to leave so I didn't risk ordering any additional food.
