"Bistro style restaurent (less comfortable than the main restaurant 1 Pico), very good service, friendly and efficient, but one downer: the choice on the menu (a bit simple: front page for food, rear for wine) is very limited, you would miss certain dishes you might expect to find in a restaurant on the seashore
we went there for dinner, but this is more a place for lunch or brunch, I would say"

"Sad that the service was such a diminishing experience at Coast. Its a great situation...menu is fine, location is excellent, ambiance is great. In this case the waitress interrupted us every time she came to the table, couldn't seem to follow thru on requests from the table and blamed other service people for inequities in the meal service.

Coast's food is basic compared to its upstairs food service options: One Pico and The Living Room (or?) This is okay but, not when you get kicked in the teeth by your waitress."

"Found this romantic spot on OpenTable in Sta Monica at quaint inn, Shutters On the Beach. Nice inside (though a little noisy for my taste), patio is much quieter with glass window seats, fountains, and trellis w/lights reminiscent of South Beach or the Aruba. Arrived at 6:20 for happy hour that was to be until 7pm, but only available at the 'bar' which was completely full with only 12 seats. We seated for our reservation early, disappointed that we could have ordered same food for 40% less. Food/service was good, but menu was VERY limited and very expensive for small portions. Since menu is the same all day, I would make this place a must for happy hour (4-7pm) IF you can get it, and lunch or brunch which would be fabulous in this setting."

"What a great spot to have lunch either with your special someone or a group of friends celebrating. Food was great - Healthy and yummy without being fussy; attentive service and wonderful ambiance. Will go back more often."

"When ordering the tomato soup and grilled cheese, don't expect a grilled cheese sandwich. Basically it's a 2-3 inch thin crouton with melted cheese. Tasty, but needed to order several more to go with the soup."

"Great location right on Santa Monica beach--no view but convenient for a stroll on the beach before or after eating. Menu simple and food is well prepared and not fussy. Hotel lobby one floor up is great place for a drink before or after dinner. Quiet enough for good conversation in groups of 4-8. A favorite of ours when we are In LA."
