  • A Romantic Night Out

I had never heard of this restaraunt before, and I have no idea why. However, my mom's friend told me about Coach Insignia since I wanted to take my then girlfriend out to a nice restaraunt to propose that night. We were not disappointed. The staff was very curtious and professional. The view was amazing. Every seat has a great view of Detroit and at night time the city is beautiful. Last, but definitely not least, the food was amazing! Best steak I've ever had, and my fiancé got the duo of lamb and it was even better. The whipped potatoes were to die for! All around it was an amazing place to eat. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a romantic place or if you need somewhere to go for a special occasion.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 11/15/2014
My wife and I went to Coach Insignia for the first time to celebrate our first anniversary. This is certainly a "special occasion" kind of place, as you need to be able to splurge to really enjoy yourself there. The food is outstanding, though, and the wine list has everything you might imagine on it. The only real downside is that you don't get as quite as spectacular of a view at night (we were there at 7 p.m. in November) as I imagine you would get during the day.

It would be great if the food was as good as the view but the food was uninspired. We all agreed that it was a very good meal but not a great meal. Still I highly recommend this restaurant because the total package was very good and you cannot find a better view of Detroit and Canada.

Celebrated Anniversary. Views of Canada and Detroit exceptional. A Detroit Special Occasion MUST. Ordered Duck ala Orange, and Lamb Chops. Great portions, got SIX lamb chops, taking 3 home for lunch the next day. Duck was done perfect. Great Wine list at expected pricing. Overall experience was great; they know why you go there. They deliver, and don't disappoint.

The on-line reservation worked perfectly, the meals in our group (3) were absolutely first class, and the service was just right (there when needed without hovering over us). The music level was just a little to loud for a hearing aid wearing diner. The valet service needs training in communication and response to customer questions about the rate schedule. Next time I'll just park in the structure myself. We will come again and I would be comfortable recommending the Coach Insignia to anyone.

My son was planing something for me and my wife for our anniversary and once again he did an amazing job. Coach insignia is definitely a breathe taker restaurant with the atmosphere and view who wouldn't be mesmerize. With that being said it was all great except for the meal. Even though everything else was great the meal was a bit of disappointment. Coach insignia being a high quality restaurant should consider to develop favor instead of simplicity. Would I return maybe.

The food was not up to par with the price. With the $200 bill that I had with tip, I do not think I received the best food experience for the amount of money I paid. I would not recommend Coach Insignia to anyone else except for drinks for a special occasion. The view was gorgeous, the server was superb, and the ambiance was impeccable but in my opinion that did not help with the food being poor

I took my boyfriend there for his 50th birthday. The ambiance was nice. My biggest disappointment was the food. I had the lobster, scallops, and shrimp. The food tasted bland and undercooked. I sent it back to have it cooked a little more and it looked as though they rearranged my plate and returned it. My boyfriend had salmon and it wasn't bad. He agreed that my food was bland. The food was not worth the money and I wish we had dined elsewhere or had appetizers and drinks at the bar. They gave me a free dessert. I asked for the creme brulee and the waitress talked me out of it stating that it was flavored with passionfruit. Instead I had a gross sweet potato cheesecake! I will probably not dine there again. The drinks were good.

The lobster corn dogs are great (odd menu item, I know, but extremely good) and the seared tuna was excellent. This was our 3rd time at Coach Insignia and it's been fantastic each time. Dinner for 2, including dessert, an appetizer, and a side cost about $140. We went about an hour before sunset and watched the sun go down on the city while we were eating. It is well worth the money for a special occasion. We've been to a couple other high end restaurants in the Detroit area and none of them come close to comparing. I don't think we'll bother going to another one...Coach Insignia has the market cornered in this area. Easily #1.

i chose to celebrate a very important occasion here and was so absolutely delighted with the entire experience! it was an unbelievable view, the service was spot on and the food was exactly as i had hoped it would be! my only complaint is that we had requested a table beside the window and weren't able to get one. it was a bummer because we had made the reservation at least a month in advance and requested it at that point. other than that, it was perfect!

Great ambience, unfortunately I thought the food was just ok. I'm used to dining in Chicago where my short rib entree is so tender it melts in your mouth- unfortunately this was not the case. The meat was dry, veggies also not the greatest. My husband's salmon was good but whatever it came with was not- it tasted like dried up elephant ears without powdered sugar.

The food was nothing to ride home about. It wasn't flavored well and lacked the refinement for the price paid. I had the root beer braised short ribs that tasted like any regular short ribs I could have gotten at your neighborhood restaurant or threw in a crock pot. The side of lobster mac and cheese was bland and the whipped potatoes I could have made from an instant mix. I guess you are paying all that money for the view. It's too bad the food isn't up to par. Save your money for another classy restaurant.

I believe that this place should be visited by couples at least once if possible. We have been here at least three times before arranging for reservations this past trip. I have never had the luxury of getting a window seat until this past trip. It was wonderful. We have always gone back due to the food and the service always being wonderful. We have always done the "surf and turf" dish. The steak has always been wonderful even down to the way that the asparagus is cooked. We have dined at different places such as the Metropolitan Club in Chicago to the Oakroom in Louisville. We still like this place the best. I normally do not write any reviews, but I believe that this place has earned the merit.

As I enjoyed the beautiful restaurant with a lovely view with my enchanting wife, I wondered why it is not preferable to dress for the occasion any more. I wore a 3 piece suit with cuff links and sat within 20 feet of someone in jeans and a t-shirt. Honestly, it did not ruin the experience, the food, service and venue was wonderful, but isn't it fun to dress up anymore? Dress code? Jeans and t-shirts are NOT "business casual", Coach Insignia.

I was looking forward to eating here. I'd heard so much about the view. I'd recently eaten at another restaurant in the building for my dad's birthday so for my mom's birthday we tried this was. The other one had it all, great view, wonderful atmosphere, and totally awesome food. This restaurant had a great view, nice atmosphere (although the other received more stars by far), and the food was a huge disappointment. The other restaurant which I won't name was on another floor in the same building was the best food I've had since moving to MI less than a year ago but I've heard about this one and thought I was in for a treat. I don't mean to be rude but I've had better food at the state fair but the price was as high as the floor we were on!
