Scallops. I tried the southern style ribs. Not at all what I expected. The greens were incredibly sharp in taste and the rib meat was much like pot roast. Maybe I don't have the right palette for this dish but I was disappointed. Should have stayed with traditional plate like porterhouse. We valet parked at the Marriott Hotel and it only costs us $10 (you have to get your ticket validated at the restaurant). Our table had the perfect view but really any table would have a great view. Our waiter was Eddie and he was great - very courteous, helpful, knew the menu very well. We both ordered the filet mignon and we shared the sides (mashed potatoes and asparagus) because we were told they were big enough portions for both of us. I'm glad we did this because we even had left overs. The steak and sides were all delicious. They even surprised my boyfriend with a dessert. We both had a wonderful time and we will definitely be going back!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing Food and ServiceThe view from atop the Renaissance center was marvelous, especially since it can be enjoyed from any of the tables in the restaurant.
But we went there for the food, and not one of the 4 of us were disappointed in the least. This was by far the best dining experience I've had in years.
The Waygu strip steak was the most delicious cut of any steak I have tasted.
I also got to try bites of the short ribs, salmon and scallops and I couldn't have gone wrong with any of those choices.
In addition, our server was helpful, knowledgeable and made sure to keep the mood light and enjoyable (as we were trying to keep it that way for ourselves).6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingCoach Insignia is truly a Detroit Gem! It was the first time for both of us. The view from the elevator alone is breathtaking, as your eyes scan Belle Isle, Windsor, and the Ambassador bridge. My friend and I were seated at a window facing Belle Isle - it was absolutely beautiful. We ordered the Pistachio Baklava Cale and the White Chocolate Cake. When our dessert arrived, we couldn't believe how perfect it was presented, and the taste was even better! Ever bite was better than the one before. Our bill wasn't outrageous and the service was great. We loved our Coach Insignia experience and we will be back soon!6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMMake Reservations earlyI made reservations 1 week ahead. I was disappointed with our table which was not a window view and was right in front of a waiter station which blocked the view. Beyond that, the food was amazing and the view was still enjoyable. The elevator ride up is a joy within itself. Overlooking the river and being able to see acroos to canada is amazing. The drinks are awesome and reasonable. I decided that a special night out was needed to honor my daughter's achievements and hardwork. The restaurant knew of the special occasion and made sure to assist in the recognition. The last visit was about 25 years ago when it was under a different name and the restaurant rotated....we do miss that feature. The food and service were excellent and everyone wished us a happy anniversary. It is expensive, but worth it for a very special treat.. The view is unmatched in Detroit - absolutely beautiful. The wine list is overwhelming... the service is always excellent... and the steaks are delicious! The Coach cosmo is to die for as well as the old favorite called Willy's punch. We love it and always recommend Coach to all of our friends. Coach insignia did their best to reserve a river view table. They did not disappoint. The staff was very kind and knowledgable. Our waiter was excellent. This is the type of restaurant where knowledge of wine can be very handy. Unfortunately, I am a beer guy. No fear, our waiter recommended an excellent beer for my meal. This was my first time at Coach Insignia, thanks to Restaurant Week, but it will no be our last.
