Diner Reviews
  • "A great spot for a romantic dessert focused night out. The service was attentive but not overbearing. The server said it was fine to just have dessert or dinner too. The arugola salad and shrimp and grits (a little spicey) were delicious. The place is known for chocolate desserts and it was not a let down."

  • "A fun restaurant with unique dishes that work. Specialty cocktails are interesting and tasty."

  • "I absolutely love the decor. Very chic! The menu has some unique and tasty options. It is mostly made up of "small plates" but don't worry.. that doesn't necessarily mean you have to share. It is a great place to bring your significant other on a date or to go for a girls night out. The drinks are to die for. Who doesn't love chocolate-strawberry cocktails?!"

  • "I took my wife for our monthly date night. We try to go to different places each time. Since I had been here before I wanted her to experience it as well. She really enjoyed the drinks (something with honey burboun (sp)). The food was good but they really do not give you a lot. One would expect more than three scallops and two crab cakes to cost less than $100.00. But it was not about the food, but being with each other. So I would recommend it to others, but would make sure to tell them not to expect to get full. We ended up getting some Ollie fries down the street after we left. Still we had a good time there."

  • "Service was fabulous. Most enjoyable meal while visiting Washington. The black onyx was a treasure."

  • "Food was very good but not a good portion for the price. Two mini sliders for 12 dollars. OUCH. S'more desserts very good, flavorful and well presented. Cup cakes were just too much. Perhaps different flavors with the chocolate cremes anglasie icing. Fritters were not good and didn't have a good flavor. Try a biegnet with a chocolate center or a brioche doughnut with ganache center. Yum... Mac and cheese was flavorful but portion size was way off. I would visit again but try not to het the same server. Don't know his name, not really friendly and didn't want to talk to much to him due to his bad breath. Very cute and tready place for DC."

  • "Our three-course brunch was wonderful! The amuse is different everytime and I love it."

  • "I had ordered a vegetarian flat bread without meat. They accidentally put bacon on the flatbread. When i pointed out the mistake, the waitress was extremely apologetic and got it remade the right away in 5 minutes. They went the extra mile and gave us a free dessert entree for inconvenience. I have been going to CoCo sala for more than 3 years and i have had excellent food and customer service every single time. Highly recommend it."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. There were four of us; we each chose a salad and a small plate to share. We then also shared two desserts--and we each had a delicious cocktail. Coco Sala's take on a Mohito--the Cohito--was terrific--refreshing and unique. Dishes we'd particularly recommend included the watermelon salad, the arugula salad, the prawns & grits, and the scallops. This was a fun place to go for a Girls Night Out. We'd go again! The only hiccup was that our waiter, tho very pleasant, was a bit slow."

  • "The hostess and host were rather rude and snooty, really NOT welcoming and we even had a reservation. We also got frosty treatment from the bartender--my friend and I were waiting for other members of our party and just had water. I get it--they want to make money--but we only sat at the bar b/c there is no other place to wait and not be in the way, and it was just a few minutes. BUT, after that, our WAITER was WONDERFUL--so friendly, smiley, enthusiastic, patient, and accommodating--it seemed like he actually enjoyed his job and did not have disdain for the customers!! And the FOOD and DRINKS were DIVINE. So, I was able to look past the rocky beginning, and my friends and I had a very nice evening."

  • "If Co Co. Sala has fallen off your list of places to go... put it back on immediately! The service was top notch; the food was unique & delicious & the attention to detail was beyond my expectations! From the sparkling flight to the chocolate bacon garnish on the mac & cheese, from the sweet & sour cauliflower to the incredible desserts... there was no disappointment in our fabulous birthday celebration!"

  • "This is one of our favorite restaurants in DC. The drinks, food and atmosphere are incredible. What's not to love about a chocolate restaurant! It is a dining experience. The weaving of chocolate bits into every dish without it being overwhelming is a feat. Must haves: crab cakes, deep fried cauliflower, mac & cheese and the amazing Chocolate Onyx. Our server was so informative and fun and left us to our own devices as we were entertaining guests. Love this place!"

  • "This was my second time at Co Co Sala. I took my best friend here for her 25th birthday. The food was great except the shrimp mac & cheese. The drinks were good as well. The only thing I didn't like was I requested a dessert for my friend (usually restaurants give that on the house if its a birthday celebration) but I had to pay for the dessert. Other than that, the experience was great. I would definitely go back."

  • "Once again Co Co. Sala did not disappoint. We enjoyed every aspect of our meal, drinks, and definitely the dessert as well. One of my favorite highlights (which I'm still savoring 3 days later) was the sweet & sour cauliflower.....great flavor+texture combination. The desserts were great too. The "milk chocolate peanut butter gelato" in the "Co Co. Grown Up" was one of my favorite pieces to the multiple desserts we ordered, and I feel bad that I stole a lot of it away from my sister-in-law. The Bahibe Buzz was also a new addition to the dessert menu since our last visit there, and it had a great combination of flavors to bring in the summer."

  • "The food was okay. The cauliflower appetizer was unique. The desserts were really good. We tried two of them and both were good."

  • "I always bring my out-of-town visitors to brunch at Co.Co. Sala. The food is consistently great, the service is always kind and helpful, and the location is perfectly convenient for going to the Portrait Gallery for some culture after our meal."

  • "I dined at Co Co Sala for my boyfriends birthday. The service was so great. Our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and recommended some fantastic items. He was right on time with his birthday desert equipped with a candle. And the food was beautifully presented and delicious. And I had the best drink of my life, the Alisar. My boyfriend started planning our next trip there as we were walking out."

  • "The salad was excellent. The food was OK to good. The service can be better. Our food orders were not brought at the same time. People going to dinner together should be able to eat together at the same time. "

  • "While the drinks and desserts are excellent, the food is unremarkable. I ordered the canceled and the actually were terrible. The waitress seemed to care less. She was not very friendly. I would go again but not for dinner."
    Dined on 6/4/2014
  • "The food tasted great but the portions were too small. We took the pre-Theater package (5 courses) and still left hungry. No bread is served either. Dessert was small too. Drinks are overpriced. "

  • "Co co Sala was an excellent choice for our evening. The food was divine as well as our recommended drinks. The knowledgable waiter offered fitting suggestions; every dish we ordered was delectable. Staff was great & friendly from the moment we walked in. CONS: Our 7:30 reservations meant there were several happy hour remnants & therefore very LOUD. We couldn't hear our waiter's introduction of the menu despite his efforts. 2.We were seated immediately next to the bar which explains the above but also meant very limited space between our dinner table and those lingering for happy hour. My husband was being brushed every few seconds by the crowd. When the hostess noticed this she asked them to respect the dinner space which worked fabulously."

  • "It had been a couple of years since I've dined here. I came with a small group of friends for my birthday. Everyone is still raving over the food and telling everyone about Co Co. Sala. The Sweet and Sour Cauliflower is delish! The MMM and the Fetish were divine. Oh, can't I forget the Bacon Mac and Cheese. The best part was the Co Co. Cupcake Chaser. The liqueur was in a plastic pipet. I'm a chemist, so I too tickled! I'm definitely going to eat there again. You should, too. :-)"

  • "My wife and I went for early pre-show dinner. Drinks, salads, entrees and a shared dessert were all exceptional. She loved the "Fetish" drink and the crab cakes. The black onyx dessert was to die for. My wife is already trying to figure out when she can go there with the girls."

  • "Brought an out of town friend here for brunch! Great menu! We got the brunch experience. The portion sizes are HUGE! I got the crab cakes and it came with THREE plus a salad. My friend got the cheese souffle, which I thought was going to be really heavy but ended up being quite delicious. Then came dessert (included) - Latin Love Affair and Chocolate Onyx - I recommend both! Plus a beverage was included (champagne, bloody mary, mimosa, or coffee. Definitely recommend going here for a relaxing brunch. It wasn't crowded at all. There are outdoor seating options, too."

  • "Beautiful ambiance, but if you're looking for a hearty meal, I would probably try something different. Dessert was excellent, albeit small. Nice if you're looking for a little treat, but not if you're hungry and looking to pay less than $120."

  • "My friends and I come here often because the food is always amazing! They have seasonal items that are delicious! I had libido for a drink which is tasty, the sweet & sour cauliflower is served over fried kale which is to die for. The buffalo chicken sliders are my new favorite. I've had all the desserts here and everything is wonderful for a chocolate lover! "

  • "I love chocolate, and this place was great for it! I did not have dinner, just went to a happy hour, but I was still impressed. The drinks were delicious, and their rosemary fries are to die for! The ambiance is very cool and romantic; I will definitely be coming back!"

  • "Our server was so thoughtful and kind. We went early in the evening, and the restaurant was pretty empty, but it felt cozy and warm. The staff made my husband and I feel welcome and special. The food was great. We read reviews about not getting enough food because of the small portions, but the food was so rich and the quality so high, the two small plates we each ordered plus an appetizer, were perfect!"

  • "I went to Co Co Sala for Mother's Day brunch, which is not their usual menu. Our waitress was very helpful, and the kitchen accommodated my dairy allergy from a menu that had cheese in every dish. The chocolate buffet was the highlight of the brunch and well worth a visit. Their complimentary Mother's Day champagne cocktails were also very tasty. "

  • "What an amazing experience, it really is unique and cute place. Took my mom for her birthday, along with some of my girlfriends. Lots of "YUM" all around. In spite of a little snafu with spilled drinks, we all had a great time/experience. Onyx dessert - seriously should be illegal ;-)"

  • "My wife and I recently celebrated our anniversary at Co Co. Sala and we loved this place. It was our first visit, but definitely not the last. This place has good food, amazing drinks with different flavors of chocolate and yummy deserts. The staff was very friendly and made sure we were served in good time. We will surely visit again with friends."

  • "We went to Co Co Sala for our anniversary dinner. It looked like a nice romantic restaurant. The table we were given had 2 low seats. One was an ottoman, the other had a very low back. We requested another table with chairs that had backs & were given a cozy table in the bar. A group was already in the bar being pretty loud & they were right in front of our table. Could barely hear the waitress bc of the noise level. After our appetizer, we were moved to another table bc the waitress noticed that the group was getting louder & larger. Table was still in the bar. Still in the middle of all of the noise. Not the romantic atmosphere we were expecting. At all. The food was amazing. Dessert was unbelievable. "

  • "We had the pre-theatre tasting + five dessert flight, they were nice enough to modify for us for $75 or person. The chef Sucre fritter was fabulous (my fave food item), then I had scallop and risotto, Mom had artichoke tart and mac-n-cheesr and we could have done without second item because we needed room. The scallops were done perfectly, tart was to perfection. The other items were great, but it was a lot of food. The desserts were to die for and the entire night was a blast. My best food experience in DC, it felt like New York. I am going back with hubby and likely taking the kids, who will be impressed as mini-foodies and chocolate connoisseurs. I cannot say enough, it definitely made my Mother's Day! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED"

  • "Tables are uncomfortable, drinks are way too sweet, food is just OK, a lot of loud bachelorette diners there the night we went. This is a place I would have loved at 21, but I do not recommend it if you are out of your 20s. The one bright spot was the server who was attentive and pleasant."
