Special kudos to our patient waiter, who, without flinching, brought three glasses of chardonnay for one of our group, who drinks nothing but, when she found Clyde's house wine, lacking.-

Our waiter was great! He was helpful, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The food, however, was over salted which was very disappointing. I would go back for apps and a drink but not a meal.

  • At least the chili is still good

    Dined on 11/22/2014
This D.C. area chain has always served my favorite chili. It's still outstanding. Otherwise, this icon (or at least its Reston outpost) is a mediocre middle-of-the-road place undistinguished from others like it. The food is barely okay (a little seasoning would help a lot). The prices are moderate to low, which is nice for families with noisy kids. And the servers are confused at best. One runner brought another table's appetizers to us as we were midway through our entrees. Our server had trouble explaining one dish, never brought more bread and butter as asked, and disappeared after we asked for a check -- we had to beg another server to get it for us. And whatever happened to the nice cornbread and rolls the place used to serve? Instead, we got semi-stale bread that would have been at home at Denny's. Too bad. A D.C. icon has slipped into the nothing-special haze of bar-plus restaurants that mimicked it years back. Perhaps the company that owns it has cast its attention to its other franchises. Pity.

Service was excellent and the food was delicious. Had the calamari for an appetizer and the ponzu sauce is great. Had a cup of chili to start and it was sweet and spicy. For dinner I had the pumpkin ravioli with added chicken and I was stuffed!

I over osso bucco which of course is usually veal but I went ahead and ordered the special. It was well cooked but let's face it pork doesn't lend itself to osso bucolic- style. Very little meat and lots of gristle. The spinach was a little tough. Otherwise, I love Clyde's and have been going there since 1964 when it was just one restaurant in georgetown.

Seriously there were at least 5 employees standing up front at the hostess station. One hostess seemed to be doing all the work and service in general was fair to poor. Waiter was pretty good but we had trouble getting bread (that wasn't stale) and water right from the beginning. We had reservations btw.

My friends and I had an enjoyable evening at Clyde's. We were seated very near our reservation time. Our table was spacious. Most importantly, our food was well-prepared. I thoroughly enjoyed my Osso Bucco. The pork fell easily from the bone. Our waiter suggested a change to how it was presented in the menu by adding brussel sprouts. This was definitely the right suggestion for me because the brussel sprouts were a tasty addition. To finish our meal with a flair, we ordered the Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie, which was simply delightful. I also tasted a bite of my friend's Pumpkin Raviolis, and they were also wonderful. I will end by saying that everything about this dinner was perfect!

Clyde's is always good and has been for years. No wonder it has stayed popular, with its winning combination of food, service and price. More restaurants should figure out that "secret". The only complaint we had was that the reservation we made only put us at the front of the line; it did not get us a table at the time we reserved. Otherwise, the service was super.

  • Great Clyde's Location - A Food Issue

My wife and I stopped in on Friday evening after the movie. We had a reservation and were seated at a nice booth with a view of the ice rink. Service was excellent, cocktails were great and poured at the table. Wife ordered a trout dish which was great. I ordered a seasonal dish off the menu "Beef Munich" which was billed as a beef stew over potatoes. It came in a huge shallow bowl with a very small portion, I counted three little pieces of meat. It was a smaller portion than a small can of beef stew - I was very surprised because the dozens of times I have been to Clyde's the portion size has been excellent. The waitress did not return until after I finished the tiny portion. I mentioned it to her, she wen to tell the manager, and then after my wife had finished her entree they brought me a free second entree of the Beef Munich, which was of a decent size. They did not discount my check at all. I ended up taking the late-arriving entree home in a box. This is very unusual for Clyde's and I consider it an isolated incident but I am disappointed with the way management handled this. Our server was excellent and very professional.

Clyde's of Reston has been a dining spot for my wife and me for the past 12 or more years. We are rarely, if ever, disappointed, for the choices on the menu are broad enough that we always find what appeals to us. I cannot ever recall that we left Clyde's disappointed, especially if you combine the excellent food with a superb wine list. As always, the service is impeccable, and we've become accustomed to Jessica, our waitress, and her guiding hand during our recent visits. She just adds to the pleasant ambience of the restaurant. I have said this before: Clyde's is a neighborhood gem and we intend to keep visiting it as long as we can.

Business lunch on a Friday was "festive!" (in other words, crowded and loud, but to be expected.) Always love the food here, and was particularly pleased with the roasted acorn squash entrée with apple + cranberry compote. Needed a veggie rich dish without fat or sugar (I had the maple syrup on the side.) What a nice hot break from salads!! Thank you to the chef for coming up with low calorie options that I wouldn't typically make at home.

After many trips to Clyde's finally a great service experience! Our server was very attentive, and our food was brought to the table within minutes of our ordering. It makes such a difference in the dining experience to have a fantastic server.

Clyde's is a landmark for good food and dependable service. The Clyde's wine is also a bargain. Our Sunday meal began with 4 pieces of cinammon coffee cake at no charge. The chicken apple salad sandwich was great. The fresh fruit salad was tasteless though. The roast beef sandwich with onion straws was also good. Though crowded, our server was attentive. Fairly reasonable pricing at $21each including tip.

    Dined on 11/1/2014
Great menu that always varies according to seasonal favorites and availability... ample portions and good beverage recommendations... enjoyable eclectic ambiance and comfortable, competent service. The only downside is that their kitchen tends to be so efficient that more than once our entrees arrived before we could finish enjoying our starters and first round of beverages... an inconvenience that verges on unpleasant when your main intent for going out for an evening is dining and don't intend to wolf down a meal enroute to some other event. I wouldn't hesitate recommending Clyde's of Reston, except to tell anyone to be sure to advise their server upon ordering that they'd like time to enjoy each course with a respite in between.

Love any clydes. Not sure what's happening, but the service is getting very very slow. A business lunch the other day was terrible with even getting drinks & our orders taken. In their defense three people showed up & I arrived 15 mins late so I ptibsvly threw off yet flow. Other times you have to beg for scraps of bread. Just do what you're great at: water on the table, bread to tide over the time & quick service.

Eventhough we have reservations, it took us 10 minutes to be seated. The reservation is for 3 people but the person who directed us to be seated showed us table for only two, and when we informed him that the reservation is for 3, he wants us to go back to the front desk and wait to be called again. The ironic part is there are so many open tables in the area and all he needs to do is to allow us to seat on any of those tables. We told him that we don't want to go back to the front desk since we have a reservation and we just decided to seat on the table. That person was frustrated and unhappy on what we did.

The lobster I had for lunch as Saturday special was good though a bit chewy (apparently defrosted). It came with a tiny amount of mashed potatoes and over-salty and over-greasy broccoli. The price was right, but the lunch not great. The hosting and table service was good. The ambiance so so--resembling a train car more than a restaurant--but I guess that's the nature of this chain. This was my second time at Clyde's--the first time was in Georgetown--I am sure it is fine for some diners--as obviously it's quite popular. The chewy and crusty bread served before the meal was great. I'm not sure If it justified the price of the lunch menu, though. I'd recommend this restaurant to the young crowd--not great for baby boomers/.

We both had the lobster special, which was the best lobster I have had since being to Maine. It was fresh, succulent, and delicious. The fries were delicious, and we ordered an apple cinamon ala mode which was baked perfectly and tasted wonderful. The pastry shell on the outside was great and the inside was the perfect temperature. Service was great without being intrusive. I would definitely recommend it. It was packed on a Monday night while all the other restaurants we passed in the Town Center were dead. That says a lot about Clyde's.

Then they seated 6 at tables they pushed together at the side of our booth who were backing into us to take pictures and generally loud, obnoxious and rowdy. My wife ordered a medium rare hamburger, sent it back once and it was still medium, my trout was mostly breaded and overcooked to the point of tasting like a fish stick. I won't be back any time soon

Clyde's never disappoints with seasonal menus and locally sourced items, service is another story. At Clyde's/Reston something happens with the table service that disappoints strongly and keeps me away for a while. Recently, the hostess was top notch, actual server was okay, a little too eager, cbut friendly. Another server was actually rude and dismissive. when I asked him if the early dining promotion was still offered as it was not reflected on my bill, he looked at me rudely and said dismissively, "no, we stopped that at least five years ago, that's been gone a long time." My guest and I had been there a few months ago and knew differently, he was not helpful, rude and walked away not following up or seeming to care. Just rude.

As per usual, our evening at Clyde's was both friendly combined with a fine food selection. The resturant was more crowded than normal because of the rain, and the noise level a bit higher; still, it did not distract from our hearing each other speak. We have been going to Clyde's for more than a decade, and when you add the half-priced bottle of wine to a fine assortment of food well prepared, you cannot beat that combination. Not many people enjoy liver, but I do and the preparation of the liver at Clyde's Reston is comparable to "fegato alla veneziana" in Italy - not a bad compliment, indeed.
