A word from Clyde's of Columbia
Located on beautiful Lake Kittamaqundi in the heart of downtown Columbia, Clyde's has been serving lunch and dinner daily, and Sunday brunch, since 1975. With a seasonal American cuisine menu, diners can enjoy Wild Alaska Salmon in season, Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, Filet Mignon, or a delicious Bacon Cheeseburger. Sunday brunch features favorites like French Toast, Eggs Maryland and Steak and Eggs. Serving a late-night menu, Clyde's is the place to go after a movie or a concert at nearby Merriweather Post. The Tomato Palace, our delightful Italian restaurant right next door, serves homemade pastas, wood-fired oven pizza, and a variety of salads, sandwiches and Italian entrees.

We do not accept reservations for outside dining.

Diner Reviews
  • "Clyde's on Saturday, 4/12, was disappointing at best. Reservations didn't seem to matter at all. The food was not only cold at our table as well as those next to ours, but the meal was just not up to Clyde's typical standard. It was an overall let down. We do intend to try again but another time like this and the Clyde's we love will be a pleasant memory."

  • "Ordered the Mahi Mahi and asked to be sure the fish was fully cooked. It arrived rare and on a plate of pureed veggies that made it look like something for someone in assisted living. My friend's meal was fine but mine was awful!"

  • "Our reservation was at 7:45 for 5 people (arrived at 7:35), but it was close to 8:30 before we were seated. Around 7:55 the girl called someone to tell them their table for 6 was ready. The person told her the reservation was for last week! I thought great - they'd give us the table, but no they split it up! After waiting another 20 minutes, we complained to the manager and his excuse was that they had to wait for multiple tables to leave so they could make a table for us! So disorganized! to sum it up: The wait was horrible - too cold to wait outside-no place to sit inside (a bench in the entry way would have worked!), waiter was ok, food was ok. We were trying to celebrate a friend's birthday, but this was a disappointing experience."

  • "Excellent wait staff and excellent food. Cocktails pricey!"

  • "The wings are to die for. Pasta dish wash very good. Ran out of some craft beer on the menu. The main courses can be hit or miss at Clydes."

  • "My friend and I were seated next to the windows through which one can enjoy the great view of the lake. We both got soup for starters and then a vegetarian entree, which was stuffed acorn squash. It was all delicious. I look forward to going again!"

  • "We eat frequently at Clyde's. We love the fresh ingredients and inventive combinations, particularly in the salads. We appreciated our server's knowledge of craft beers, which helped us to make very tasty choices. Being able to make a reservation through Open Table makes us visit more regularly - it is wonderful to know when the restaurant will have room for us so we won't have to wait."

  • "Five diners at our table and five fabulous meals! Our waiter was very attentive."

  • "Way too noisy and busy. Clearly the wait staff was struggling to keep up with the overwhelming crowd. To their credit they were always polite, professional and did their best. I ordered a salad entree (kale with grilled chicken and quinoa). It turned out to be a handful of shredded kale and a few pieces of chicken hidden here and there, and some quinoa scattered about. The presentation was less than appealing. It looked like it had been served and this was the leftover! Not that I think this was the case, but it was not worth the $14.95 they charge for it. Would not recommend unless you like excessive noise and crowds."

  • "Excellent experience! Food was great and service was very good. We had a great time."

  • "Glad we had reservations, but still a 25 minute wait for a table past the time. Fairly noisy. The food was good as always, but I wouldn't go again on a Saturday night."

  • "St. Patrick's weekend. We wish that we had picked another place, as Clyde's did not have their traditional menu. Instead, some of our favorites were replaced by Irish type items. Anyway, two of us had Fish &Chips and were disappointed in that the Fish was a bit undercooked. We love Clyde's, but note a degree of inconsistency."

  • "I went here for a quick lunch with my boyfriend. I highly recommend the petit filet bernaise! The waitress took a little longer to welcome us, but she was nice. The view over the lakefront is spectacular."

  • "My friend and I were out drinking and decided early on to go to Clyde's to eat dinner. You can never really go wrong with their menu. Food on plates is always skimpy but delicious. The only real complaint we had were the patrons next to us. You can't really decide seating when it's late and the place is packed. I do enjoy Clyde's and would definitely recommend them! Plus definitely use OpenTable for reservations because I've made reservations here on my own and have never been seated as quickly as they seated us this night!"

  • "First time was a win! Was seated relatively quickly. Staff was nice. We were evidently seated near an air ventwhich was providing a very cool draf. When asked if we could change tables we were told it would be an additional wait but the waiter went and turned the air of for us. Made the environment much more enjoyable. The food arrived in an acceptable amount of time despite a large crowd and was very good. Would recommend for a nice casual night out with friends or a nice date night."

  • "Food was excellent, service was very good despite the busy crowd, but it was noisy. Had to lean over the table to hear conversation with my friends."

  • "I have eaten here dozens of times and love the reno. The last two times I've been here though the food was mediocre. I got the crab cakes which are always good but the Brussel sprouts that came with them were barely cooked and only luke warm. There was no seasoning on them and they were so hard I could barely chew them. The calimari appetizer was not great either. I'm not sure if they changed chefs but I hope they fix the issues."

  • "We haven't been to Clyde's in a while so we decided to go at the spur of the moment. Easy to make reservations on Open Table and the food was excellent!"

  • "While the waiter was very pleasant, the service was painfully slow. The well-done steak came out rare and was sent back. The second time it came out it was closer to medium. While the other food was good, we will not return."

  • "We had a family dinner there for 6. Had something for everyone on the menu. Wine was very good and reasonably priced. Service was excellent. They placed us in a room that was decorated like an old library. Very nice. Everyone had a good time."

  • "We had a nice dinner with friends at Clyde's on Saturday night. The Rockfish, crab cakes and petite filets were all well received. Don't bother with the salmon burger. It was served on a very salty roll with spicy hot cucumbers and an aioli sauce that didn't taste good. The atmosphere is always upbeat. A bit too loud but friendly."

  • "Our waiter must have assessed us from the moment we sat down- but he was wrong. He assumed we weren't worth basic service. He didn't bother to tell us about the specials, didn't check back (we hunted down a different waiter to get needed utensils) and then had the audacity to ask to keep the change for his tip. Amazingly bad service."

  • "We have been going to Clyde's of Columbia for years and have had many private celebrations there, but this visit was disappointing. French Onion soup was very watery and hardly any cheese or onions. Filet Bernaise which was ordered medium was well done. White Zinfandel was dry and not at all like any I've had before. The Cuban sandwich was good, but every thing else left a lot to be desired."

  • "I've been going to Clyde's for 35 years and it's had its ups and downs, but it is definitely back! You can count on great crab cakes and salmon dishes which is one reason we went. They've improved their craft beer selection and I really enjoyed their Tito's cosmopolitan. The delicious baked bread is such a plus after years of sourdough I couldn't chew. I ordered my 30+ year traditional dessert - Clyde's Signature Spanish coffee - perfect! My husband ordered the vanilla cheesecake calling it "plain jane" so when the waiter served this adorable pink heart-shaped yummy cheesecake with "Be Mine" written on the top, the waiter quipped "not so plain jane, eh?" We had a great time!"

  • "Overall the experience was great and the good was wonderful. The only draw back was a longer wait than expected when having a reservation. The initial wait fit our server was then also a little long but after that everything went very smoothly with the food abd drinks coming out at a great pace and again the food was delicious. Try the pork shanks!"

  • "Loved the atmosphere and the food. The artichoke and crab dip was delicious! I rate restaurants based on their onion soup and Clyde's onion soup was one of the best I have tasted. Our dinner was topped off with a scrumptious apple cranberry crisp with vanilla ice cream. Our evening would have been perfect if not for the substandard service we received. I was disappointed considering how classy Clyde's is. Our server did not introduce himself and he seemed very impatient throughout the evening."

  • "The food and the service were great, the table/booth were NOT. I made a reservation thinking that we would get a scenic view. We were not offered a booth but only a table and had to ask for a booth. Both booths that we were offered were behind post that offered no view. The lake was frozen and beautiful, too bad we could not see it during our lunch. I would go back but I don't want to argue over seating. Gayle Bowman"

  • "This past Friday was my first time at Clyde's even though it has been around for a while. The food was good and the service was good; there was just a little something missing. I had Clyde's version of an Old-Fashioned and it was a nice little drink. we also ordered a bottle of wine and appreciated the good selection and range of wines. They brought us bread which was very pedestrian. I ordered the cheesesteak spring rolls and they were excellent! My wife ordered this bizarre mushroom appetizer on the recommendation of out server and it was bland and lacking in quality. For dinner I had the Paella, again very well done, and nice portions of various ingredients."
