Clyde's of Chevy ChaseGood eats!Clyde's continues to offer basic fare, yet a broad menu and at reasonable prices. Some of the items used to be somewhat heavy, (esp. the pasta dishes), but they have lightened the recipes and it is very hard to go wrong with anything on the menu. The cater to all price points (full entrees to sandwiches) and the service is always helpful, friendly and attentive. Weekends are busy and reservations are good idea. I had originally booked a table for 2, but a 3rd friend joined us at the last minute, and I'm very grateful that Clyde's hostess rolled with it and got us a booth. The server, Shebah, was excellent-bubbly, energetic, friendly, and professional. All bottles of wine are half priced on Mondays, but since it was Memorial Day, I didn't count on it or consider ordering a bottle until Shebah told me they were still half priced! We got a great deal! The only downside, and it wasn't really too bad, was a party of about 20 that were set up next to us. We had not eaten there since before it was renovated but the ambience was unchaged and comfortable. The traditional mimosa was a nice compliment to lunch. I ordered the vegie burger which was dry for my taste, my wife ordered and enjoyed her turkey burger. The key lime pie was very good and I would order it again. On this occasion my husband had the 'special of the month', halibut. The fish was rather under-cooked, rather small, and the accompaniment, barley,shaved asparagus etc was also rather small. However, he was reluctant to ask for it to be cooked a little bit more in case it came back dried out. I had the eggplant parmesan which is good, but for some reason it doesn't arrive piping hot. Our friend had the salmon, which he said was "OK". The desserts were excellent - but the hot fudge sundae is HUGE for one person. We have had better meals at Clydes than was the case last week. Being a Washingtonian, Clyde's has always been a hot spot and a must go to restaurant! Never disappoints! Their Crab Benedict is out of this world and I love the fact that the chefs will prepare your dish any way you want it. The servers are ALWAYS friendly, professional and knowledgeable about the menu. The food is not oversalted, like a lot of places we go, and I didn't notice a lot of noise, although the restaurant was full. There's something for everyone, from great fish dishes, steak or a simple hamburger. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a restaurant with broad appeal.
This time I had the fish and chips and I really liked it - made with cod, as it should be. My husband had salmon and was very pleased. Our niece, who's pretty picky, had a cheeseburger and she was happy.
