Diner Reviews
  • "My family and friends come here regularly. We know the food and the service is usually good. On Sunday night the service was FABULOUS thanks to Allison. If you can request to be seated in her section, do so. She had a great sense of humor and was just lovely."

  • "I would definitely go back to Clyde's. They had the best crab cakes and the portions are reasonable. A little pricey but worth it. Dessert of Brownie Sundae was soooo good."

  • "Got seated promptly, ordered immediately since we were going to a movie, simple order--a vegetarian plate, waited 40 minutes for the meal after we complained, it was cold, drenched in oil, asparagus was charred, and overall tasteless. Expensive for the awful food and long wait. Manager gave us 2 free appetizers for next time visit, which I do not think we will use."

  • "I ordered a crab cake, and remember them being better in the past. It was decent enough with a good beer, but not worth making a trip for. A really good crab cake is hard to find outside of Baltimore. My friend seemed to enjoy the bison burger."

  • "Opportunity to sit and "catch up" was excellent. We were not rushed. Noise level was low. It served our purposes very well."

  • "My friend and I went for dinner and the service was slow (it took me thirty minutes to get a soda), the food was mediocre, my friends meal was incomplete (she ordered stew and it came without mussels) and it wasn't worth the $50 we spent on the meal. So not going back."

  • "Nice, comfortable atmosphere with ample room. Was there on a business lunch, and was perfect for that occasion, menu provided a good selection to address our group's varied tastes."

  • "I've been going to Clyde's for decades and it has always been reliably good -- nice menu selections, good food, timely service. I went twice in the past week and something is happening at Clyde's. The food orders took an inordinate amount of time on both occasions. A manager apologized for the delay after we repeatedly asked various staff where our food was. "The kitchen was backed up." That was unusual since Clyde's is typically busy and has timely service. She offered to adjust the price and comped dessert. The second time that week the food took 45 minutes. We inquired several times and heard they were backed up. Clyde's needs to correct whatever has gone awry and get back to its usual good standards."

  • "The waiter was surly and ignored us as much as possible. Three ladies and a male were treated very badly! We gave him no cause for his lack of attention to us."

  • "My choice for taking a friend with whom I wish to talk a lot. I appreciate not being hurried away as can happen in many good restaurants."

  • "I have gone to this and other Clyde's and they just have superb quality of staff and food choices. The decor always makes it seem like a fun place to take out-of-town guests."

  • "I've become accustomed to great service at the Clyde's family of restaurants. While our server was very nice, he missed a few things. My wife ordered her burger with a seedless bun and the next two orders also wanted the same. The buns came seeded and when we saw the check, it literally said "ADD SEEDED BUN". Also, ordered the super secret double dipped wings, but they came out and were not. So, it was a just okay experience this time and I won't be clawing to head up to Chevy Chase again."

  • "Went for the Sunday brunch. The menu is more limited but there was still a good selection. Had the crab and artichoke dip for appetizer. It was decent, but had bits of shell in it. For the entrée I had the Maryland Egg (a crab version of the eggs benedict). Was a creative and tasty selection. Still had an issue with finding bits of crab shell in it. Service was a little slow, but the place was pretty packed for brunch. A little surprising, they had a magician working the room. Entertaining but not sure I liked being disturbed (was asked for my iPhone, jewelry, etc.) I expected to just have a nice relaxing meal. He was friendly and the tricks were fun, so I guess it all worked out."

  • "It's nice to have a clyde's in the neighborhood with its dependable service and menu. We can always find something to please the various tastes of a group. We enjoyed sitting in the downstairs bar area in a booth this time with the activity all around, yet we were able to carry on a spirited conversation among the four adults. Crab cakes were delicious as always; my friend enjoyed the shad roe appetizer immensely."

  • "I found it interesting that if you wanted to eat downstairs near the live music later at night there weren't any servers. We had to order everything through the bar. When our food was ready we even had to carry it from the bar to a table."

  • "Clyde's of Chevy Chase is consistently good, both with their menu and their wait staff. It's convenient to metro and parking is easy. I have never been disappointed by my dining experience at this or any of the area Clyde's restaurant."

  • "The Monday night roast beef special was at least 25% unedible, unattractive fat. The kitchen should not have released it.The laid-back waiter ignored my comment. He was thereafter hard to find, and not very helpful. My guest asked him to wrap her remaining entree, he agreed but then disappeared never to return."

  • "The ambiance in the dining room is wonderful. The service was great and the meal was delicious. I’ve always loved this restaurant and we had a wonderful dinner. I highly recommend it! Close to movie theater if you want to add that to your date. They also have a great sports bar downstairs that you will love."

  • "It turns out both my son and I made reservations through Open Table. We arrived after my scheduled time but before his, so he used his Open Table reservations. No worries. The meal was still tops--can't beat the crab cakes."

  • "Food and service is very good here. We live close by and go to Clyde's a few times a month and always end up here when guests are visiting from out of town. Lunch, Brunch and Dinner - the service and menu is great."

  • "My husband and I made a last minute reservation to enjoy St. Patrick's Day at Clydes. We asked when we checked in if we could go down to the bar area (which is usually fun and festive) and found a wonderful band and terrific food! I had a delightful Guiness and my husband had a Black and Tan followed by a wonderful meal of corned beef and cabbage and shepherd's pie. We live in the neighborhood and used to be regulars when the kids were younger and decided we would be back again soon. It was loads of fun and the food was very good. Can't wait to get back there."

  • "I have been to most Clyde's in the area and Chevy Chase is one of my favorites. The atmosphere is very pleasant: nice wood, booths, planes suspended from the ceiling, and a small model train that actually runs on tracks around the restaurant. The menu offers a good variety of dishes and I am always happy with what I order. Plus they have a good choice of beers and a nice sports bar downstairs. March 16: The host was very patient when I asked for a different table because the first two were too noisy. Lauren was our server and she was very friendly and really on the ball. She made suggestions when we needed but was not overbearing. The four of us enjoyed the food, conversation, and comfortable surroundings."

  • "We are new to the area and Clyde's was recommended. The inside was very cool as we sat in the train area of the restaurant. They had another area that was a cruise ship and downstairs was a car theme. The food was good nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about either. The service was good and my kids enjoyed watching the train move about the restaurant. I would definitely recommend this place to all families."

  • "My out of town guest and I (both in our 60's) were seated near the kitchen. Not the place to put peopleof our age who had hoped to have a "catch up" conversation. We both ordered eggs Benedict. The service was slow. The English muffins were dry and hard. The Bernaise sauce was scanty. The eggs were boardering on firm, not runny yolked, and the side dish was potatoes done somehow. Not sure....more steamed than pan fried. I've lived in DC for 40 years and so enjoyed Clyde's brunches "back in the day" in Georgetown. This experience doesn't hold a candle. Sadly, I will strike Clyde's from my list of good places to eat."

  • "Dined with my fiancé on our anniv dinner knowing that Clyde's was a cop-out, but we figured it can't be that bad. We greeted by two overworked sullen hostesses. Had to wait a few for our table, fine, but the 3 wildlings playing frog hop in the lobby were noisy and violent. I was kicked, bumped, and pushed before we were even seated. No parents or manager in sight trying to find the parents. We get seated by sullen girl #2, but then are greeted by a very chipper waiter, except I wish he had warned me about the chicken. I may have well had eaten my sweater it was so bland. During all of this crying babies , screaming kids, and more wildlings roaming. Dessert was the high note. Macadamia Pyramid. I highly suggest drinks, apps, and desserts"

  • "I wouldn't say Clyde's is my favorite place, but they do a solid brunch and the inside is a toddler's dream -- trains, planes, and automobiles. Definitely fun for the kiddos."

  • "make a reservation...been going to all the Clyde's restaurants for 35+ years.. Hamburgers, Crab cakes always Delicious.. I love the option of several sides to choice from.. The sautéed Spinach ( side) is terrific.. For me Clyde's has never disappointed me in 35 + years eating at all their Washington, D.C. area restaurants.."

  • "I meet friends here frequently for lunch. The quality of the food is now mediocre. Poorly prepared, ingredients not fresh (fruits and vegetables in salads) , beef vegetable soup greasy and flavorless."

  • "This was our first visit to this particular Clyde's. Interesting decor. Service was great! (Deena) Great food. Clean restrooms. Velvet seats not conducive to sliding in or out of booths. Recommend a replacement with green vinyl."

  • "We've eaten at Clyde's many times over the years and enjoy the fun atmosphere. My six year old daughter loves the train and made cars and airplanes. Generally, I think of the food as being passable and go for the fun and neighborhood convenience. Our last visit was not so fun, though. We ordered an appetizer and tow entrees. All we just awful, to say the least. And, the kitchen clearly forgot us and the server almost did. After waiting for over a half hour after ordering, every fifteen minutes or so, the server would catch our eye to let us know that our food would be out soon. Soon, it wasn't. While my daughter had fun, even she began to get irritated with the length of our wait. I will think twice before retuning."

  • "We eat here or at Clyde's Tower Oaks about once/month. One can usually count on good food and drink at a reasonable price. Most recently, the Fried Oyster Spinach Salad and the rock fish were very good. But we were disappointed by the overly sweet cocktail I ordered, and the roast pear appetizer was dried out and combined with flavors that did not interplay at all well."
