A word from Club Lago Restaurant
Opening its doors in 1952, Club Lago has anchored the corner of Superior and Orleans since before the neighborhood River North grew up around it. Serving classic Northern Italian specialties from the Garfagnana Valley in Tuscany to steaks, chops and signature sandwiches too, the Lago's staff will recommend the perfect entree for whatever mood you're in.

Third generation owners GianCarlo and Guido are pouring the wine or serving the veal--it's a family affair. Time warp back to the fifties with a glass of chianti in a plush booth in the bar or hold court at one of the tables in the back; Club Lago's ideal for the first date, a meal before the theater or a game, or whenever you're looking to relax to great food and be a regular in a family joint.

Some call it "retro," we call it home. Benvenuti, come on in!

Diner Reviews
  • "I walk by Club Lago all the time I just wanted to try it. The best way to describe it is I didn't dis-like it, and I really like the prices. It is an Italian restaurant similar to the Italian village, really good price point, friendly service, family friendly and kids would probably really like it."

  • "I hadn't been to Club Lago in almost 20 years. I remembered it as a family owned restaurant that had a limited but consistently delicious selection of Italian dishes. It hasn't changed a bit. I was welcomed into the restaurant like I was an old family friend coming to dinner. Our server, Greta, was lovely and was helpful with our choices. It was a week night so we were able to sit in the back and catch up without feeling pressured to leave. Glad it has survived all the changes in the river north neighborhood."

  • "Club Lago appears old-world Italian & inviting from the outside and since they've been around for a long time; even before River North's gentrification, we assumed they must be good. The dining room is a small area in the back with little ambiance and plastic tablecloths. The food was terrible. I will never return. If you want traditional Italian go to Carmine's! So much better!"

  • "I just love this place. Neighborhood gem where the owner is very present. Highly recommend the Veal Parm!! It is delicious!"

  • "This is a great spot for simple, Italian-American food. This is not food like you had on your trip to Italy, but solid, good-tasting, food, with decent portions, served with a smile and good service. The bread is terrific."

  • "Classic old-fashioned restaurant. Clean, courteous staff, with good Italian comfort @ a reasonable price."

  • "I always enjoy eating here. It has an authentic, neighborhood Italian feel. The decor is warm and cozy, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the smell is amazing. The night we went, a table of women toasted their friend who was getting married; everyone in the restaurant raised their glasses and joined in. A friendly and fun atmosphere!"

  • "I really enjoyed having lunch here with my mother and good friend from out of town. I was excited to show both of them this little neighborhood gem that I found nearby where I work. It has a bit of Chicago history that I wanted to share with them. We even celebrated a friend's birthday there, which was the first time we went. I love the hustle and bustle, the smallness of the restaurant, and the servers. The only thing was that I went on my lunch hour and I cut it really really close to getting back on time. There was a mix up in the kitchen that the server apologized for but this is much more of a cute little dinner spot. I enjoyed my time at Club Lago, will be back and will recommend. My guests enjoyed it as well!"

  • "It was New Year's Eve so we expected it would be busy, but the service was never-the-less prompt, attentive and courteous. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and decor. It was very warm and inviting on such a cold wintery evening. The food was hearty and what I call "comfort food" because it warmed the soul. The cannoli was perfect. It was interesting to discover that Club Lago was featured in "Mad Dog and Glory" (1991) with Bill Murray and Robert DeNiro. This was an added bonus or feature to the vibe of the restaurant."

  • "Loved the character, decor of this old school italian. Red and white table cloths in a place that made you feel like you traveled back in time. As a New Yorker, it made me feel like being in Little Italy. The appetizers and the bread were very good, but then came our pasta dishes. They were covered in sauce, but the sauce was more like gravy with corn starch to thicken it up. Flavorless with over cooked noodles. Huge quantity, but little quality. Such a shame as I really wanted this place to be my regular italian joint."

  • "We really enjoyed Club Lago - we were immediately greeted at the door. We were thanked by name for dining with them. The service was fabulous and the food was even better and we couldn't believe it was so inexpensive. This restaurant will definitely be on our list the next time we go to Chicago and are looking for great Italian food!"

  • "There is really no reason to endorse Club Lago with all of Chicago's dining options out there; old school décor, gum smacking waitresses, Dino on the sound system and "red sauce" Italian cookery. Pretty formulaic, right? That said its success is in the sum of its vintage parts. And the food can be deceivingly good. While pastas can be a bit overly cooked, we also enjoyed brightly sautéed garlicky broccoli, and a lightly battered veal bracciole, with a light lemony sauce. Drinks were stiff and the waitress was accommodating and advised us well. Everyone bid us good night like we were old friends. What could be better than that on a cold winter's night? Carry on Club Lago!"

  • "Good food and reasonable prices, and not fancy. I would definitely recommend Club Lago to anyone looking for a friendly neighborhood Italian restaturant. Guido and GianCarlo run a great place."

  • "If you want the feel of "Chicago" and what it might have been like on old time Chicago, Club Lago is the place for you. A small restaurant with very friendly and informal staff and old style decor makes this place a favorite of mine. The food is reasonably priced and well done, but not fancy. Just old style Italian that is always reliable. I have been going here for years and never tire of it."

  • "Good authentic Italian food. Our waiter was unenthusiastic at best. The wine list is inexpensive and all house wine - you'd at least expect a little bit of choice though at an Italian restaurant. We are not wine snobs by any means, but we got a bottle of cabernet and my wife commented that she had a bottle of that brand of wine in our fridge at home used for cooking wine."

  • "The food was okay but the establishment has blackhawks fever to a fault. At one point they were blasting the game so loud I had to yell for my girlfriend to hear me. That's not what I go out to dinner for. It's a glorified sports bar, if they focused on that they would be fine. They should drop the $30 steaks from the menu, the server clearly steered us away from it for a reason. Thanks to his honesty we had a decent meal but the noise was just overwhelming."

  • "A very enjoyable dining experience. Excellent food and service. Juan Carlos and Guido, owners very active and ensured all had a great dining experience. Very good food. Cannot wait for the next time."
