A word from Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro
Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro is a cozy European-style cabin in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, a legendary restaurant on top of Aspen Highlands. With views of the iconic Maroon Bells - perhaps the American West’s most recognizable, postcard-perfect mountains - dining here is a bucket-list worthy experience.

Get into the European spirit by ordering a warm and bubbly serving of foudue or baked robila. Pre order the raclette-slices of cheese that you heat in little trays and enjoy with cornichons, potatoes and air-dried beef! Enjoy some classic duck confit or braised beef short ribs paired with a fine wine from our worldly list or a refreshing cocktail. Most importantly, save room for the famous sweet and flaky apple strudel.

At the top of the Cloud Nine Ski lift, we are a ski-in, ski-out restaurant. If you don't ski, don't worry! Join us every Thursday night for our public open-snowcat dinners! Seating is limited to 40 guests, and has an 18 person minimum.

  • "I we can hardly wait for our next Cloud 9 experience. Next season can't come quick enough. Perfect 2pm seating with delish food followed by dancing and libations. Not for the timid."

  • "Best ski lunch of all time! We had such a great time. Fantastic food, wine & energy."

  • "Beautiful view, but bland, unattentive service at a significant cost. The novelty wears off while waiting for bread and drinks for 15 minutes in a tiny dining room. Waitress never smiled once. The kids did okay but not much choice for them. We had fun despite all this. The views and ambiance were excellent. Food was pretty good."

  • "Great location, good vibe.Olga seemed disappointed that we weren't drinking (but we wanted to ski lots more after!). Salads and appetizers came quickly and were great. That was where it unraveled however. Main lunch took forever. Not sure if Olga was distracted by a larger wine drinking party or kitchen didn't have it all ready together but 1/4 of our dishes was hot. Trout was great. The others at room temp not so much and the bolognese dish was almost cold. I would have sent it back if I'd but just wanted to get back to skiing and we had already donated an hour before the main food came. Blech! I don't think this place shows a good face for the Highlands at all. Very disappointed."

  • "Must-see for the view, but the food is actually good. Pretty crazy for Apres ski."

  • "Great cheese fondue and lively atmosphere- at 3pm the diners all start dancing!"

  • "Yes, the location is spectacular and the surroundings quaint, but the food and service do not warrant the expensive price tag. Food was mediocre and not accurately described by our server, who just seemed to be going through the motions. As locals we went here for lunch expecting a special treat, but instead were treated with typical Aspen restaurant attitude - "We don't really have to try hard because even if we don't give great service and food we'll still always be busy" Very disappointing. This place could be really special if they tried a bit harder, but i don't think there's any real motivation to improve. Kind of a shame"

  • "Cloud Nine has quite the reputation for a good meal and, at times, crazy atmosphere. I was hoping for a bit more of the crazy, but I guess that depends on who the other patrons are at the time. The food was good and the wine list okay. Wines by the glass seem to be a bit better deal than by the bottle. The service was good - friendly and they try to be accommodating. Expect a hefty lunch bill though…"

  • "Cloud Nine is one of the best dining experiences in the Aspen area. High atop the Aspen Highlands ski mountain, you can sit outside and revel in the gorgeous view while eating. There is nothing like it. Later in the afternoon, the fun begins, and you can count on Cloud Nine for a party scene with occasional dancing on tables. Lunch at Cloud Nine on a sunny day is about as good as it gets. Don't worry, if the weather is inclement, you can sit inside the cosy chalet-like dining room. Great for a group, we celebrated a birthday with champagne and seafood - a memorable experience that none of us will soon forget. Cloud Nine is definitely a 'must do' and a 'don't miss'."

  • "We had Raclette and fondue. Menu says Raclette is 25 per person and fondue 20 but we were charged 40 PP per plate, adding up to a total of 80. PP The waitress explained that the price in the menu is only applicable if the items are ordered as starters, but the menu does NOT say that. Then, the manager said we asked for three refills. This is not reasonable because the price is PP, the menu does not mention refills and there was definitely not enough food for 8! After a lot of discussion, the manager took down 15 PP which is still different from the menu, and charged gratuity over the entire amount including the "discount', which is outrageous. The issue is not the price but the fact that THEY DO NOT APPLY THE MENU PRICE!!!"

  • "This is the place to be for an outstanding après-ski experience up on the mountain. Make sure to make a reservation well in advance, and book the late seating (2.15pm). If you want to party like crazy you should sit inside (which might be a tough choice if the sun is shining), but if you are enjoying an outside table you can still go inside to dance when you hear your favorite song - IF there is room for you; the place gets PACKED!"

  • "Unfortunately I probably won't go again. The environment is unique and the ambience feels like something you'd see in a ski movie. However, the server was busy most of the time trying to find room for incoming guests and didn't have much time for us. At 2:30p, the music was cranked to club level and the ambience went from romantic lunch to après ski bar. I'd recommend eating and leaving before 2 if you want the former. Food was good for mountain top but not excellent. Price would indicate you'll get food to write home about - unfortunately that missed the mark. Won't go again but don't regret going once to see the mystique of Cloud 9 Bistro."

  • "Fantastic food - fondue, raclettes and daily specials; Amazing view outside and atmosphere inside - feels like a slopeside gem in Switzerland. And the party starts at about 3pm - just remember that you have to ski back down at 4. Reservations are a must - 2 pm is a good time if you want to be there to dance on the tables at 3."

  • "Outstanding vista of Maroon Bells charming small cabin. Went for lunch on a sparkling blue bird day just a bit too cold to sit outside. A couple got married there very romantic. Beware it is very pricey. Doubt I would return unless someone else is paying. Fondue appetizer two person minimum $20/per person. $40 prix fix (2 courses) at lunch for salad or soup plus entrée. Fish was very good, pasta Bolognese mediocre at those prices. Great wine choices but you still have to ski the rest of the afternoon. Dinner might be fun but you would lose the view at night"

  • "This little chalet at the top of the Cloud 9 lift on Aspen Highlands Mountain is a find. We went for the raclette and fondue on Christmas Eve for lunch and it was memorable. The food was expertly prepared and served. The wine list was fantastic and though we were tightly fitted into the small front dining room, everyone was delighted to be there. The Cloud 9 experience is about more than food, though the food was amazing. So if you are looking to make a special memory on a ski trip to Aspen, I would highly recommend Cloud 9 Alpine Bistro. I can't wait to go back!"

  • "impeccable food, great views, great wine - what could be better! Amazing experience. Service and staff top rate as well. The best dining experience on a ski hill in the world."

  • "By far, the best place in the neighborhood, especially given that you must ski or chair lift to get there. The food is topped only by the scenery and on a clear day you can see as far as the continental divide over 100 miles away. It can become quite noisy and energetic by late afternoon and even boasts a daytime disco dynamic with music, on some afternoons. Despite the tight seating and high noise level, classics such as the Raclette (order in advance) or wiener schnitzel are unsurpassed at this altitude and west of the Alps. And if you like good wines, be prepared to to give up serious skiing for the rest of the day. But If skiing, great food and wine are your thing, then Cloud Nine is as close to Nirvana as you will ever get."

  • "Have been a couple of times to this restaurant and the experience is varied. on this last visit with a bachelor party, we were sat in the busiest area constantly being bumped but waiters and diners, while the other side of our table was being melted like raclette by the wood stove that really didn't need to be on in march. On finally being asked for our order which took about 20 mins, we were told we had to order quick because the kitchen was closing. The food was very average, there was coq au vin but without the vin. The pasta lacked bolognaise, which we thought was a rip off at $40 a plate. As we got further through our lunch the music got louder forcing a contrived party atmosphere where the odd cougar danced on her chair."

  • "Outstanding overall experience. Where else can you get a gourmet meal right on the mountain? The dining area is a little crowded, but everyone is friendly and in such a great mood, it's a not a big deal."

  • "Went twice for lunch during our ski week. Both times a "10". Can't wait for next year but will call way in advance because there is an 8 week wait for the Thursday night only dinner."

  • "I heard a lot about Cloud 9 and was excited to go but found it overall disappointing. While most go here for the amazing view and the scene neither was present at our sequestered table in a windowless section of this awkwardly laid out restaurant which was also right next to the door so got a frigid gust every time someone came in or out. The food is decent, portions small so not a place to replenish from a hard day skiing, and quite pricy. Expect to pay $50-70 for lunch."

  • "I've lived in Aspen for 11 years and been traveling here since I was a young boy and have to admit that this was one of the most spectacular dining experiences I've had in all of these years. The fondue was delicious, wine list small but superb, views of Maroon Bells and the surrounding mountain range breathtaking and the 2:30 dance party was so much fun. I will put this on my yearly list of things to do as long as I live here. I took my girlfriend up for a ski date and she has such a great time as well. Just watch how much wine you consume as you still have to get down the hill at the end of the festivities!"
