  • "My husband and I hadn't been to Clio for several years. We were very disappointed. The service was pretentious yet poor for such a high-priced restaurant. Our appetizer was brought before the one for our friends, which arrived at least five minutes later. Everything was about presentation, but our beet salad wasn't terribly tasty. I had the skate wing. The sauce was nice, but the texture of the fish was stringy and unappealing. This may have been due to my choice -- skate wing can be a gamble. But my husband's salmon was flavorless and undercooked (he had asked for it cooked through). Coffee was not hot enough. Given the high prices of this restaurant, we expected a better meal, with less pretention and better quality."

  • "We were a group of 9 which I split in 2 tables (unknown to Clio's). The 50-80 year olds at one table, the 18-25 year olds at the other. The service was the best I have had at both tables. The waiter with the younger group was so knowledgeable with cocktails as well as food, the "kids" had a great experience. Our waiter, at the "old" table did an amazing job of recommending food and pairing wine. It was all around a GREAT experience."

  • "Every bite was bursting with flavor. I loved the tomato water martini. I could have had ten of theses little flavorful drinks! Our first taste was of a little cube with lebne. It felt firm but immediately melted in one's mouth. The Spanish ham was outstanding. My only concern was the pacing. There was a long break when it came to the waygu beef that we order and the entire tasting took approximately three hours? I was ready to fall a sleep as I lost interest in the last 5 courses as it just took way too long overall. If I would return, I would make it known that I only have two hours to eat and that the need to move things along."

  • "Clio is the picture of perfection with intriguing, delicious food artfully plated and impeccable service. The food is among the best I've ever tasted. As much as we all eat with our eyes first (and these plates are beautiful!), I keep coming back for the playful and inventive dishes on offer here. The use of exotic or unexpected ingredients (green strawberries or bee pollen to name two), brings joy to a food adventurist such as myself. The service is absolutely without flaw. From the friendly joking valet staff, prompt seating by host/ess all the way to the apologetic table bussers, the staff were personable efficient and knowledgeable about the food and wine. This is a special occasion place for me and they make the evening special."

  • "We took my husband for Father's Day breakfast/brunch and it was so disappointing. There were only three other parties so it was not as though they were busy in the kitchen. The service was confusing, many people serving the table and constantly asking if we wanted coffee. Among the four of us ironically no coffee drinkers, so asking once they should have removed the coffee cups instead of repeatedly asking. The meals came out but only three arrived. One was incorrect so they quickly took it away but the other meal did not arrive till the incorrect one was prepared again. The food was okay but nothing great. It seemed as though the entire experience was just awkward for some reason."

  • "The ambience and service were impeccable. We had a seven course chef's tasting and wine pairing. We appreciated the skill and effort, but it was somehow unsatisfying to us. The wine selection was fabulous and we enjoyed it very much. For my part, I think perhaps the error was mine. I should have chosen the cassoulet and let it go at that. I did discover that I like foie gras. If you are a true foodie, this place is for you. I seem to be a peasant at heart. I prefer figs and prosciutto over monk fish liver pate for a first course."

This is the best dining experience I have had in years - which includes dinner at 11 Madison Park two months ago. From our experience and from some of the other reviews I gather Clio tries to be unpretentious and somewhat casual which is commendable. However, please loose the music - it was awful and a terrible distraction and partly ruining the ambiance. But I'm nitpicking - the food was absolutely terrific!!"

  • "As we are nearing our move to New York, we started compiling our bucket list of restaurants we wanted to try. No foodies ourselves, we listened to our foodie friends and went to Clio. We made our reservations online the week before, planning for the tasting menu. Unfortunately, because we each had to get up early and be functional the next morning, we opted against the wine pairing. I don't want to go through all 14 courses, but notable items include the parsnip foam cassoulet with sea urchin and lobster. I didn't know such a thing existed. I also never knew cod could taste so good. This was followed by seared foie gras and venison with bone marrow crust. In summary, I would recommend this to anyone willing to go on a culinary adventure."

  • "We hadn't been to Clio for a few years, and our return visit this week moved it right back to the top of the list. Every dish was spot-on delicious, well-presented, and distinctive. My only hesitation about Clio is about the wine program--not the selection, which is thoughtful and a good match for the wide range of flavors and taste--but the extraordinarily high markup for wines. Specifically, wines poured by the glass were a scant 5 oz (and pretty steep at $18+ per glass), and the doubling of retail prices I've come to expect was nothing compared to the tripling or more of retail costs for most bottles."

  • "We both thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience at Clio's, including our pre-dinner cocktail at the bar (the bartender knew his way around an outstanding dirty martini - I'm very picky, and it was excellent…), and our dinner. Dinner was very good, and the staff was very accommodating. My mom and I wanted to split an appetizer and our main entree, and they came through. It was a perfect amount for the two of us. Staff couldn't have been nicer or more attentive. Overall, very nice experience."

  • "So we did the SUPER expensive 10-course tasting menu with wine pairing (~$620 for two people BEFORE our 20% tip..which we paid) and the food was worth it! The food was exceptional. The presentation amazing but the wine pairing was off...not the wine choices...they were great. The wine would come out like 15 minutes before your food which makes you tempted to drink it and again, it's a tasting meant to be enjoyed with the food. Our server did tell us the tasting menu could take up to three hours (that was the quote for the 14-course) but the wine pairing timing was just off. That needs to be improved especially when paying that much for dinner. It was very busy that night but I don't think that is an excuse..just bring the wine out later. "

The food is in the class of the highest end adventurous dining experiences, with non pretentious knowledgeable service and possibly a slightly more manageable price point. As an example of the dishes on offer, I had an appetizer of burgundy escargot made with kim chi topped with crispy duck tongue, the flavors were subtle, unusual and fantastic in combination. Most other dishes were seasonally aligned with some fish and red meat dishes such as short ribs and swordfish. The drinks on offer were excellent. The wine was on the high end per glass but was available with expert advice from our waiter and it is a restaurant experience for once in a while not every week!"
