Diner Reviews
  • "After discovering Clio on Bizarre Foods Boston I had to try the food. The food is crafted with science and a curious palate. The 7 course dinner is worth trying and gives you an opportunity to explore all of what Chef Ken Oringer has to offer. I recommend this for all my foodie friends who visit Boston. My personal favorite was the cassolette: lobster, sea urchin, parsnip milk, candied lemon."

  • "The 7 course tasting menu was a wonderful experience . Everything was delicious and unique, prepared to the nines. The portion sizes were perfect."

  • "My husband and I did the 10 course tasting menu with wine pairing. it was wonderful - the servers were very knowledgeable about the dishes and the accents. the food was fantastic and very carefully prepared. an incredible dining experience."

  • "As it has consistently for many years, Clio offers some of the best dining in Boston. Sadly, the noise level has gone up and the thumping music, while perhaps attractive to a younger crowd, makes an otherwise ideal meal less than it could be."

  • "Clio provided an interesting dining experience, the plates were creative, and were a new way to look at ingredients, some were very good, others not quite as well executed. The service was quite good. The ambiance was relaxed, and rustic."

  • "Delicious food, interesting menu. The service was very attentive, pleasant, and knowledgeable. This restaurant is expensive but a wonderful experience for a special occasion."

  • "Incredible flavor combinations, very well done. All around a great place for foodies to enjoy their favorite activity- eating!"

  • "Everything is done to perfection, the wine list is extensive and getting even better under the guidance of Jonathan, the new sommelier. Unlike some of the other top flight restaurants in Boston the staff at Clio are as fun as they are knowledgeable. Clio is a good reason to become very rich, so that you can go there often."

  • "Clio is an outstanding restaurant. The food is in the class of the highest end adventurous dining experiences, with non pretentious knowledgeable service and possibly a slightly more manageable price point. As an example of the dishes on offer, I had an appetizer of burgundy escargot made with kim chi topped with crispy duck tongue, the flavors were subtle, unusual and fantastic in combination. Most other dishes were seasonally aligned with some fish and red meat dishes such as short ribs and swordfish. The drinks on offer were excellent. The wine was on the high end per glass but was available with expert advice from our waiter and it is a restaurant experience for once in a while not every week!"

  • "We had a wonderful meal, our waiter and the staff were great. We tried a few things that we never had before and went with the waiters recommendation ....excellent! We were not rushed at all and had a great night. We would love to go back!"

  • "Clio is an expensive restaurant that is over rated. Food was good but a lot of fat on my duck entree. Service was pushy-- really, at these prices? Personally I like table cloths and nice silverware at an expensive restaurant. You won't find either at Clio."

  • "It appears Clio prides itself on intricately crafted food and drink. The bar sports dozens of flavor distillations (essence of tobacco anyone?). The food all had a lot going on too. Soup was very complex with little bits of this and crumbles of that. Crab salad was brightly Asian flavored, possibly a bit overpowering for the crab. Our pork shoulder and venison entrees were perfectly cooked. Venison accompaniments were drops and swooshes on the plate, just shy of enough to satisfy. Pork sides were a jumbled pile, dark green squirts of nasturtium/wasabi sauce - though interesting in concept, not that wowing. Our server was charming and personable. The prices, fairly outrageous. Enjoyed it, but not on my short list."

  • "after all these years, it has not gone stale. Still very inventive and thoughtful menu. we did the 10 course tasting menu, which was outstanding. the only issue was timing....it took about 3 hours to get through all 10. The staff was very attentive, polite and enthusiastic."

  • "Absolutely fabulous food, one of the best, if not the best in the city. If you are a foodie, this is the place. The service was over the top, there when you need them, gone when you don't. The wine list is amaziing but the food is the reason you go to Clio. The creativity and blend of tastes was wonderful, the presentation was beautiful and the waitstaff was extremely knowleagable and helpful. A wonderful experience overall."

  • "We ordered the 10 course chef choice (135usd/person). Food was great. Small tastings of appetizers, main dishes, cheese, and desert. The time between courses was a bit too long. It took us 2:45 hours to finish."

  • "The food and service was beyond compare. I thought my butter poached lobster tail was exquisitely prepared and delightful eat. The portion sizes were spot on perfect. All courses had a uniqueness about them that I had never experienced before. If I could give them 6 stars, I would! The price was on the high side but it was well worth it. This meal was more of a dining adventure than an experience. I can't wait for my next one at Clio."

  • "We went for the 10 course chef's tasting menu w/wine pairings. Before we started when asked about preferences my guest and I expressed no chocolate and no feta. I will spare you the delightful blow-by-blow descriptions of the meal but suffice it to say, my favorites were the tomato water soup, the fois gras and the amuse bouche made with meringue and picked plums. Some of the wines were absolutely delightful and some did not suit my tastes but none were paired poorly. I was surprised at the japanese beer and had to decline since it's not to my taste, but was not warned. The bus-person was amazing, charming and funny (and should be promoted). Our Table Cpt. was not quite so lucky but I expect it was an off-day. Too much noise for me."

  • "My husband enjoyed an extraordinary 7 course Neal with wine paring. Innovative, fresh, delicious, beautiful presentation. Absolutely top notch. This was our 4th dinner at Clio and we will certainly be back the next time we are in Boston."

  • "This is the second time I have dined at Clio and it was equally wonderful this time as the first. The staff there is really terrific. So attentive and helpful. The food is divine. The ravioli is the best I've ever tasted. All in all, it was a terrific experience."

  • "My experience was awful. It took nearly 2 hours to get our entre and when we asked where our food was we were told the "kitchen was backed up". We finally had our food sent to our room at the Eliot hotel and by the time we received it, it was cold. The staff were rude and we would never go back."

  • "Have been here before and continue to marvel at the wonderful level of cusine consistently presented. Pemaquid oysters superb presentation; beet salad terrific. The Scottish salmon was succulent and tasty - leek accompaniment great. Swordfish moist and cooked to perfection. Desserts fantastic."

  • "We celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary at Clio, and we couldn't have been more pleased. Everything was perfect. Food was excellent, staff ,esp. our server Nathaniel, couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. Cocktails and desserts were beyond belief. .Clio is expensive,, and worth every penny. We will be back. Promise. Jer and Barb"

  • "Clio is one of the best restaurants I've been to anywhere. The dishes were brilliant, inspired, creative, exquisitely crafted, and surprisingly refined and elegant given the use of such eclectic ingredients. Each course of the tasting menu was more amazing than the last. I've become a huge fan of Ken Oringer."

  • "One of Boston's best! This time was the UNI bar with top sushi menu. The "top price" goes to Tuna ceviche and Rock Shrimp Tempura. The only complaint is the difficulty in making the reservation to Uni Bar. Telephone is seldom answered and on the web the choice is not readily available."
    Dined on 1/10/2014
  • "NYE prix fixe menu - everything was wonderful except for the main (short rib, which was more like hand cut bacon and WAY too salty) and desert, which was bland. Oysters and foie gras were particularly nice."
    Dined on 12/31/2013
  • "Service incredibly disappointing - they didn't even tell us about the tasting menu! Food was very good, awful 90s music that was intrusive ...."

  • "Inventive and absolutely scrumptious food. Atmosphere isn't that great...either be more hip and funky or more refined with white linens, not plastic-topped tables. Loved every part of 7-course tasting menu with incredible wines. Terrific wait staff, highly informed on every dish and wine. Great experience. Very expensive but worth it."

  • "Creative menu but execution not consistent. Limited vegetarian options and the kitchen was not too flexible with changing menu items to accommodate my dietary restrictions. The beet salad had interesting flavors but the smoke from the almonds was overpowering. Since the tortellini (only vegetarian entree available) also had smoked mushrooms in it, by the end of the night I felt like I had eaten an ashtray. Nevertheless, the pasta was tasty and so was the squash soup and chocolate cremaux dessert. But for the price ($20/app, $40/entree) my expectations are very high and I left feeling underwhelmed. I'm sorry to say I won't be going back."

  • "Want truffles? This is the place. Still! Went for a night out with a girlfriend and was treated to excellent and courteous service, fresh delish cocktails, and surprise of surprises a glutton free menu. Wish the GF rolls had been warmer, but honestly just eating a roll with dinner was a delight! We had several apps, all were lovely and timed well. Dinner was the scallops (for me) and they were served with a sunflower seed risotto--sans rice, just seeds--not sure how they managed to make this light but filling, but they did. Dessert was a chocolate plate and the cheesecake, both presentations were gorgeous, but the chocolate was exceptional."

  • "After ascare that we were too late for the tasting menu (our reservation was 9pm), we enjoyed everything about this Christmas eve dinner, from the olive Madeleine amuse-bouche to the pre-dessert dessert, and the delightful seafoods, fois gras and pork in between. Our server Grace earned her name, and selected creative wine pairings for each of the ten courses. Thanks to all at Clio for such a memorable meal, and to No. 9 Park for the recommendation."

  • "We had the ten-course tasting menu with wine pairings, and the evening was nearly perfect. The menu was primarily seafood, with the only meat being the foie gras and a venison course. The service was excellent without being overbearing. Someone was there when we needed them, but we weren't interrupted while we had our courses. The wine pairings were very well selected. We're looking forward to returning for the 14-course tasting!"

  • "Excellent food. Very noisy. We have been here several times and seems that the noise level has increased and quality of the waitstaff has decreased. This was a rather romantic spot. We found the wait staff to be amateur. Most appeared to be college kids, none seemed like seasoned professionals. They were not too helpful with suggestions. It is very noisy. Not a place for a quiet conversation over dinner. Food is outstanding"

  • "We dined at the Clio on a week night and were very impressed with the food and service. Our waiter was polite and very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions and gave us pointers on the menu without going over the top. The food was excellent, presented and prepared to a very nice standard. The restaurant dealt very well with my food intolerance (noted at the time of the booking). We were serviced well without being harassed, a balance of which is very important to me. A very pleasurable experience, I would definitely return."

  • "My husband and I recently dined here on a Tuesday evening and it was one of the most memorable dining experiences I have ever had. He opted for the 10 course tasting menu and normally both parties particapate. Due to severe food allergies that was not of any interest to me. The staff at Clio was understanding and willing to work with me, which was wonderfull. I ordered the Heirloom Squash soup to start and than the Buttermilk Braised Chicken. Both where phenominal and delicious beyond words! Again if you are a foodie looking for a gastronomic treat this is surely it, or if you are just looking for a very luxurious night on the town with someone special this place is a must see while in Boston."

  • "As always we really enjoyed the food. Extremly creative and delicious. We really would not call it romantic. The noise level is very high and the atmosphere/ lighting is almost cold. We wish it had a bit more ellegance than hip. Service was outstanding! Also you MUST order something from the bar, genious drinks!"
