  • "It has been a couple years since I was here last and it is still impressive. The corn chowder was silky and delicious. Salmon ain course was very good as was the flat iron steak although somewhat misrepresented on the menu. Unlike last time however, the dessert was a bit disappointing. The tart shell was pasty perhaps under baked and the plums were not baked enough. The ginger ice cream however was great as was the panna cotta option. The staff is great. It can get noisy. It is a fun and unusual dining experience."

  • "The corn chowder with crab meat was unbelievable. The flat iron was OK. Plum tart was really good. Only complaint: our martini's cost $17 each. They were $15 on the menu but there was an up charge on the bill for each one and it was unclear why. Not sure if it was because it was straight up or the type of vodka but it should have been disclosed either way."

  • "There were a lot of interesting menu options. I had the halibut and my husband had the salmon and there was nothing special about either dish or the appetizers. The entrees were just kind of blah and seemed to rely on salt for flavoring more than anything else. Thank goodness we had a wonderful waitress, who gave the experience an upscale feel. Also, I sat looking at a blank orange wall, which made me think the restaurant had just opened and no one had gotten around to decorating that wall. If you have the viewpoint where you are staring at the orange wall, it is not a very inspiring experience. I'm sure the brick views are better. Of course the jail cell atmosphere is kind of cool, but not enough to carry the day."

  • "Beautiful, great service, mixed and inconsistent food. The daily special salmon and avocado sushi appetizer was tasteless; it came with a foul-tasting burnt wafer. The black pasta with scallops, by contrast, was a perfect dish. The pasta and pesto sauce were tasty, the scallops were grilled nicely. The swordfish dinner special was mushy and of poor texture; no effort was made other than the watercress garnish to impart any flavor; it was offensively tasteless. The blueberry and banana sorbet was excellent and flavorful. The accompanying soda-cracker garnish shaped like a slice of banana would have been better had it been a real slice of banana; the cracker was hard, bland, and diminished from the flavor of the dish. "

  • "Started off poorly with a hostess who didn't seem to understand her role is far more than showing you to your seat. When I arrived I stood in front of her for several minutes while she chatted on the phone without so much as acknowledging me. Finally I walked over to the bar and sat down believing she would come over when she hung up. She did not. On the way out I asked her for change for a $50 so I could pay the valet and she told me to get it at the bar, Our server was terrific however my swordfish was overcooked and tasted more like cod. The 3 slivers of "crispy asparagus" was the size of vermicelli; why bother? The ambiance is fun, the former Charles Street Jail, but I would not go back. "

Service was less than spectacular and attention to our party was non-existent. Was there for a special occasion and, unfortunately it wasn't so special. Food was good but not great. "

  • "We went to brunch on Saturday and ordered brioche french toast, steel cut oatmeal & omelet. Portion size was very disappointing given the price. Brioche french toast was well cooked and a good size (three thick breads). The topping (strawberry rhubarb), though tasty, was scant (5 small pieces). The whip cream was practically liquid when we got it. The omelet was totally underwhelming. Worst of all, was the steel cut oatmeal - it was a gluey watery consistency with no oatmeal texture - it was awful. The manager said that that's how they make it so we requested an alternative. For the food portions and quality, the price is totally not justified and we will never come back to this restaurant. "

  • "When we got there on Mother's Day, there was an intolerable loud noise coming from under the floor in the main dining room. Like scary loud! Like chain saws and loud grinding noises! We asked the waiter what was going on, and he said he had no idea! After several more minutes of excruciating noise, we went to the hostess and asked the same question. She said there was major construction going on in the floor below the restuarant and the manager was going down to ask them to cease during brunch. The noise did stop, but it was a rough start to what should have been a nice meal! No one in the hotel knew this was happening on a Sunday? Not the experience you want for what is about $50 per person! They used to be a lot better! "

  • "I was so excited to go the the Liberty Hotel for lunch. We kept it fun but the atmosphere was a disappointment due to the staff. The entire atmosphere was very stuffy - not at all what you would expect from this character-driven environment! Our waiter was horrible - no personality and after her took our initial order he disappeared forgetting to bring more bread as we requested and never coming back for over 20 minutes - until the food arrived. The food was okay - just what I would expect from an hotel. We felt fine paying $16 for a sandwich/burgers because you pay for the atmosphere. But what could have been such a fun experience was just drab. Replace snooty waiters with fun staff in prison garb!"

  • "This restaurant, in the renovated structure of the old city jail, is upscale and clever. It's a lively night spot and we had a very good dinner. Breakfast the following morning was fine too - and seemed to be a time to break in new wait staff. Our waiter was very pleasant but the evening before the staff had tremendous knowledge of both wine and food, and polish as well."

  • "This was by far the best place I have eaten in Boston. The whole place is just amazing and I had the best Rib Eye steak I have ever had. The hotel is beautiful and the atrium is really amazing. The Clink restuarant has a really good vibe and a great place for a special occasion. The only thing to note is that the atrium area is a great venue for drinking and so after 10.30pm the music does get notable louder. Not a problem at all as long as you have finished your dinner! "

  • "Clink was well worth the visit. The atmosphere was really nice, albeit very loud. Menu was exciting with maclearing one persons plate while the other person was still eating!y great options. Wine list was very comprehensive and we'll thought out. Quality of food and presentation superb. The service was fair at best. The waiter seemed to want to turn the table quickly because he didn't grasp that we hadn't even looked at the menu numerous times until we told him we would let him know when we were ready to order. After that he was distant and unattentive.. The support staff was more attentive than the waiter who also created one of the worst errors in my mind...clearing one persons plate while the other person was still eating."

  • "We eat at 5 star restaurants on occasion so this review is in comparison to other 5 star restaurants. The food is not horrible, but for the prices, I expected at least 1 of the 4 dishes to be spectacular. The steak tartar included an overwhelming taste of celery, which detracted from the light taste of the raw beef. The steak plate was perhaps salted twice. The pork chop was a little tough, so make sure you ask for an extra sharp knife and cut against the grain (ours were dull). I wish I had a more positive review because the server was particularly nice and the decor, with the jail bars, and view was quite unique. We loved the stay at the hotel and was looking for an equally lovely dinner. It was not to be had."

Had breakfast here twice, and although the food was fine (standard breakfast fare), the service on both occasions was very slow although the place wasn't overly busy. We had to wave down the waitstaff and also ask for the check."

  • "My husband and I were looking for a nice dinner out on a Friday night. The seated us rigjt away as we had reservations. The food was not good. The salad was very sparce. The cheese with brioche had some nice flavor except the brioche was just short of being burnt. My husband had the black pasta and it was ok. I had a steak. The quality was ok. There wasn't a lot of flavor/seasoning and was cooked in a frying pan or the equivalent. The pistachio purée was the best part. Dessert was another let down. I would have preferred a brownie sundae at a local pub. We spent the night in the hotel, which was very nice. The cocktails were great and would consider coming back to the lounge."

I miss the old format of selecting a variety of items for a set buffet price....It was unique and unusual... This is now the standard sunday brunch...very nice."

  • "Went for lunch, not disappointed. Started with cauliflower soup , wonderful, totally puréed , very tasty not heavy done in a cream base. Main course we had brisket sandwich very tender with au jus on side . Came with fries but sandwich too big so I focused on finishing off that. We both got dessert my husband the ice cream sundae and myself the flan both again didn't disappoint. The only thing that was off was the coffee if served warm not hot . We went during restaurant week and it's menu and were very pleased and will be back. Beautiful hotel want to explore it other facilities . Need another visit."
