My husband and I had dined at Scampo before (also in the Liberty Hotel), so when a friend was in from out-of-town and Scampo was booked, we thought that Clink might be a good substitute. But, we were disappointed. While the price point is similar, the quality is not. We left feeling like the price (high) was not worth it, especially considering the other options in the neighborhood.

  • Great Hotel, Missed Opportunity

Arrived 15 minutes before dinner hoping for time to have a pre-dinner drink, unfortunately we were greeted by the unfriendly host who informed us they would need our table back and we would need to be seated (This was at 6.15). The restaurant remained about 25% full for our entire meal! Once inside the restaurant has a great ambiance and the hotel is one of the coolest in Boston. The server Ben was fairly attentive without being over enthusiastic and we ordered a bottle of wine and both had the beef entree. When the food arrived it was however very cold and both dishes had to be returned to be kitchen. On the 2nd attempt however the food was piping hot and in fairness was presented perfectly with a great taste. After we decided to hang around the hotel for a bottle of champagne, the Clink bar staff outside were great and got us a table on a higher level before the Saturday crowds came in. Overall, amazing hotel, great bar staff for a weekend drink. Missed out being a top recommendation by the poor host and cold food the first time around.

I came here for my birthday dinner with the group of 5 people.we could not get a reservation until 845, which was later than we wanted, but still alright. We arrived and had drinks and appetizers in the bar outside the restaurant, and that was really where the pleasantry ended. apparently the reservation at our table from 6 o'clock was not leaving in a timely manner, and rather than politely inform them that although they would never want to rush them, perhaps they could see them in the bar area because there was a reservation waiting for that table. This is simply good restaurant management, not rude. But instead of doing that they let us wait around until 945 before seating us in the upstairs balcony area all alone. This is seating for hotel guests only and I think the restaurant does not usually serve up there. We were somewhat forgotten about. The biggest issue was that by the time our soup got to the table, it was cold. For a $12 soup, this is unacceptable. The meals came out separately almost 10 minutes apart, which again is simply unacceptable in a restaurant of this caliber. The only thing that saved the evening somewhat was that the restaurant ended up comping our whole bill. The food itself was good, although not quite hot, and one appeared to have been sitting under a heat lamp for some time prior. I had the steak and it was rather fatty for the money.. If I had had to pay. This could be a great place if they had better management practices, & I would even return perhaps if I knew I would be seated in the restaurant and not outside of it.

We had a less than favorable dinner unfortunately. Our drinks were extremely overpriced - $19 for a cocktail! And the dinners were mediocre at best. We felt rushed by our server who instead of giving us a dessert menu gave us the bill. Won't be back for food anytime soon.

Great atmosphere in the old jail. Food was good but not great. Service was excellent. We had come for Saturday LUNCH at 2 PM. The website is very misleading indicating that there was a Saturday BRUNCH but also saying that LUNCH was served from 11:30-3. This was not the case. Very Disappointing.

Located in a hotel which was a former jail, Clink is cleverly named and gorgeous to look at. The squash soup and black pasta with scallops were excellent. The service was good, if a bit cold. The desserts were very good, especially the apple crisp with brown butter ice cream

Anniversary dinner for two college students. We don't typically (ever) spend this much on food, but it was for a special occasion. Everything was great – the food was amazing (i got the salmon, she got the chicken, and we shared a side of pureed potatoes [holy **** so good]), the service was impeccable, and the ambience is very unique. Maybe my only complaint is that it was too bright? Something was weird with the lights, not enough to be annoying but definitely noticeable. That seems like something easily corrected. I hope to eat here again some day! It was a very pleasant dinner experience.

Went to Liberty Hotel for anniversary weekend. Two restaurants to choose from, and opted for the quieter of the two. We were not disappointed! Food great; service exceptional - thanks, Benjamin! Nice table among the former jail cell walls! The other restaurant turned out to be the "happening" place, with full bar scene and much more noise. Had an after dinner drink there, which was perfect.

Had been curious about this restaurant for a while... went for a special occasion. Was very disappointed overall -- from the service to teh food. The hostess, the waiter and bus boy, all seemed to be just barely going thru the motions and not really caring about our experience at all. The food was a disappointment too. The tortellini was undercooked (and I don't mean al dente) and the scallop dish was terrible. There are too many restaurants in Boston to return to this one.

Service was awful - he was nice enought but seemed like one server for the whole restaurant - or so it seemed. Brought the wine commensurate or after the appetizer. They didn't serve bread, not sure if they do. The Steak was very generous and nicely cooked. Could have come with a side dish but didn't. No bread, not sure if that was because they don't serve it at dinner or forgot. Generally favorably inclined to the restaurant - nice farm-to-table orientation, at least partially. Excellent grass-fed burger in prior times.

I have been to Clink many times and the food and service is always excellent. On this night however we got a "floating table" that was out in the middle of the floor. Space was way too tight on the table and we had to keep setting our menus on the floor while we ate our appetizers. The location of the table was also very uncomfortable as I felt like we were on display in the middle of the restaurant. As always, the food and service were excellent. Clink is a little bit on the expensive side, but rarely disappoints and is in a great location. I will certainly continue to visit Clink, but will avoid that particular table!

It's in an old jail, come on, that's awesome. Boston Strangler was held there according to our cab driver. Now it's a really nice hotel. We didn't stay there, but had brunch at Clink and it was great. Jail cell bars are part of the decor, and the building itself is beautiful, but you can still tell it was once a prison. The kitchen is behind bars! Anyway, cocktails are a bit pricey, but that's Boston. The Eggs Benedict was delicious. I would have liked a hollandaise sauce with a little bit more lemon bite, but it was still really good. They use thinly sliced smoked ham instead of Canadian Bacon. Comes with a side of yummy herb roasted potatoes and some fresh fruit. The guests with me had the Chorizo Quesadilla and they both loved it.

We were staying at The Liberty and ate dinner at Clink. We ate dinner on a Sunday night at 7:00 and we were the only ones in the restaurant which was a little disturbing. But the service was outstanding!!!!! We had the corn/crab chowder - which was delicious. We also tried the octopus and it was really good. We tried the chicken (good), the steak entree (excellent) and the Black Pasta (good). I do have to say the wine list is way overpriced. Can't find much for less than $75.00 for a mediocre bottle of wine. Most of the wines we would have ordered were over $120.00. That is just not necessary. Glad we tried it, but not sure we would go there again - it was a nice dinner, but expensive.

We went to Clink for an early dinner on the final day of Dine Out (a special pre fixe menu event). I enjoyed my cocktail and appetizer, with a solid steak as main course. Dessert didn't stand out, but most pre fixe menus struggle with it, as they're rarely made-to-order. Clink has a convenient location and distinctive construction, as it's built inside of Boston's old jailhouse, with bars and window frames still used. Avoid going at sunset unless you can choose a table away from the west-facing windows, as the bright glare proves problematic even with shades drawn.

It has been a couple years since I was here last and it is still impressive. The corn chowder was silky and delicious. Salmon ain course was very good as was the flat iron steak although somewhat misrepresented on the menu. Unlike last time however, the dessert was a bit disappointing. The tart shell was pasty perhaps under baked and the plums were not baked enough. The ginger ice cream however was great as was the panna cotta option. The staff is great. It can get noisy. It is a fun and unusual dining experience.

The corn chowder with crab meat was unbelievable. The flat iron was OK. Plum tart was really good. Only complaint: our martini's cost $17 each. They were $15 on the menu but there was an up charge on the bill for each one and it was unclear why. Not sure if it was because it was straight up or the type of vodka but it should have been disclosed either way.

There were a lot of interesting menu options. I had the halibut and my husband had the salmon and there was nothing special about either dish or the appetizers. The entrees were just kind of blah and seemed to rely on salt for flavoring more than anything else. Thank goodness we had a wonderful waitress, who gave the experience an upscale feel. Also, I sat looking at a blank orange wall, which made me think the restaurant had just opened and no one had gotten around to decorating that wall. If you have the viewpoint where you are staring at the orange wall, it is not a very inspiring experience. I'm sure the brick views are better. Of course the jail cell atmosphere is kind of cool, but not enough to carry the day.
