Diner Reviews
  • "We thought it was OK but for the price it should have been better."

  • "This restaurant is in a fabulous place, the Liberty Hotel, and the ambience is both historic and warm. Had breakfast here twice, and although the food was fine (standard breakfast fare), the service on both occasions was very slow although the place wasn't overly busy. We had to wave down the waitstaff and also ask for the check."

  • "We eat at 5 star restaurants on occasion so this review is in comparison to other 5 star restaurants. The food is not horrible, but for the prices, I expected at least 1 of the 4 dishes to be spectacular. The steak tartar included an overwhelming taste of celery, which detracted from the light taste of the raw beef. The steak plate was perhaps salted twice. The pork chop was a little tough, so make sure you ask for an extra sharp knife and cut against the grain (ours were dull). I wish I had a more positive review because the server was particularly nice and the decor, with the jail bars, and view was quite unique. We loved the stay at the hotel and was looking for an equally lovely dinner. It was not to be had."

  • "This was my second visit to Clink and is well worth a stop when traveling to Boston. The Foie Gras with the arrope was amazing. I really thought the menu, and wine menu was reasonably priced. Bottom line, the good was fantastic, and the service was outstanding."

  • "My husband and I were looking for a nice dinner out on a Friday night. The seated us rigjt away as we had reservations. The food was not good. The salad was very sparce. The cheese with brioche had some nice flavor except the brioche was just short of being burnt. My husband had the black pasta and it was ok. I had a steak. The quality was ok. There wasn't a lot of flavor/seasoning and was cooked in a frying pan or the equivalent. The pistachio purée was the best part. Dessert was another let down. I would have preferred a brownie sundae at a local pub. We spent the night in the hotel, which was very nice. The cocktails were great and would consider coming back to the lounge."

  • "We celebrated our daughters 25th B-day at brunch today...everything was excellent! They gave her a free dessert with a candle as well....A small gesture but much appreciated! I miss the old format of selecting a variety of items for a set buffet price....It was unique and unusual... This is now the standard sunday brunch...very nice."

  • "We came here on a special occasion. The food was fine, but not worth the cost. The broccoli salad and pork entree, in particular, were "just okay" and not worth cost. A very good wine recommendation, however."

  • "Went for lunch, not disappointed. Started with cauliflower soup , wonderful, totally puréed , very tasty not heavy done in a cream base. Main course we had brisket sandwich very tender with au jus on side . Came with fries but sandwich too big so I focused on finishing off that. We both got dessert my husband the ice cream sundae and myself the flan both again didn't disappoint. The only thing that was off was the coffee if served warm not hot . We went during restaurant week and it's menu and were very pleased and will be back. Beautiful hotel want to explore it other facilities . Need another visit."

  • "clink is my go to lunch place when I want to impress an out of town guest. This past week I took a visiting professor and she loved the place. Menu is creative and always fresh. Our server made a special point of welcoming my guest and congratulating her on her big lecture that I had mentioned in the comments section when I made the reservation thru OpenTable. It turned out to be Restaurant Week with the bargain $20 lunch. Then at the end we had talked so much that we were running late and our server was so nice, packed up our deserts to go in a very nice box and bag."

  • "We had excellent service, a lot of attention but not intrusively. The food was very unusual and flavorful. The chocolate fondue dessert was a fun way to end the meal."

  • "Went on a double date. there were a few large groups so noise level was high. Food was great! Fun to see the old jail serving in this function!"

  • "While I felt the menu was a little limited it all sounded good and the preparation was excellent. The service was superb and made for a very enjoyable experience. We ended up ordering two pastas as our entrees and thought that both were delicious but our entire meal didn't fit all that well together. Half of that is due to our own choices (user error) but I also think this gets back to the menu being fairly limited. The place was buzzing by the time we left. I'd suggest a group over a romantic evening."

  • "Overall, a great experience. Great food (I had the octopus and swordfish) and great atmosphere. Definitely worth checking out the bar scene in the lobby, for a post-dinner cocktail."

  • "The premise of Clink in The Liberty Hotel is the fact that the building was the old Charles Street jail. The renovation kept just enough bars and jail doors to be intriguing and fun. The food for brunch delivers. Among our group we had omlets, oatmeal and pancakes that, like the venue, were creative and delicious. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun."

  • "We were staying in the hotel and asked friends from the area to join us for Sunday Brunch. It was a bit loud but ok to still talk at the table. The service was great, food was delicious. Happy we chose to meet here."

  • "The food was OK but I wouldn't eat there again. My husband got the steak and liked it; I got the rye campanelle it was OK but I could make better pasta dishes! Overpriced. Can't have a conversation because you're squished with a bunch of other diners so no privacy. The drink I got was good (French Kiss). Definitely wouldn't go there again but the Liberty Hotel is fabulous as is Alibi (although Alibi is a bit overpriced as well). I would stay at the Liberty again, but would make reservations for dinner somewhere other than Clink."

  • "I found that the food was super greasy in general and very salty! After reading the information on the website and the professional background of the chef I figured more refined meal. Young people that are planing to go to the disco after dinner, where a big part of the clients at the restaurant. Unfortunately they have put on themselves a bottle of perfume before going out, so it was so annoying smelling sweet strong perfume in such a unique ambience."

  • "I love this place. It always takes me a while with the menu because each item sounds teriffic. Whatever I choose is always delicious. There's the right amount of attention and the atmosphere is fun (since this was the old Charles Street Jail). It never gets so loud that you can't hear the rest of your party. Clink is a delight from arrival (always a pleasant greeting from the hostess) to departure."

  • "Very energetic bar scene that quiets down once you're seated in the restaurant which allows you to talk and hear the people you are with. 4 of us went and each meal was fantastic We'll definitely be back!"

  • "The food was uninspiring, especially for the price. Lamb ragu was actually chopped meat in a brown gravy. Swordfish was poached and tasteless. We had to order side dishes of vegetables since the entrees were lacking the color green in any form. Bright spot was the butterscotch pudding for dessert."

  • "Took some guests to Sunday brunch recently and had a great meal, all four meals excellent, especially my beef hash with poached eggs. The two women raved about their brioche French toast. The only negative: had an 11:30 reservation but had to wait 40 minutes before a table was available. Still, would go back."

  • "The reservation process was quick and easy, I explained to the hostess I was getting engaged that night evening and if she could find us a nice quiet table. She did a great job with the table but unfortunately that is where the great service ends. I asked our waiter to bring us a couple of glasses of Champagne and gives us some time before we ordered. He didn't listen, he was aloof and annoyed with us. When I told him we just got engaged and that is why we were taking some time to order, he just stared at us and asked if we were ready to order! I was not expecting him to jump up down and celebrate but he could have at least said congrats! So it was a little disappointing but we made the best of it!"

  • "Service was friendly, but not too friendly; fast; responsive. Wonderfully serene atmosphere. But except for the cauliflower soup, the fermented black garlic dressing on the crispy scallop sandwich, and the sweet potato fries, the food was tasteless, tough, and boring. The $24 lobster sandwich added nothing of interest to the lobster and the lobster itself managed to be bland. The pork sandwich bread was nearly impossible to cut with a knife and the sauce was anything but Cuban. Keep the waitstaff, hire a new chef. Quickly. This could be a great venue if the food matched its surroundings."

  • "Unfortunately my friends and I were disappointed in our visit to Clink. The portions left something to be desired (and we understand that sometimes the fancier the restaurant, the smaller the portions), and for the price it was a little ridiculous. I was hoping my swordfish would be seasoned a little, and would come with more than three pieces of mediocre cauliflower. The chicken breast was good, as was the pappardelle, but the ricotta dish was too small to even appreciate. The best part about the meal was the cheese plate I got at the end as my dessert - because I was still starving. Nice waiter, though."

  • "The whole experience can only be described as lackluster. It felt like the waiter did not want to be there nearly as much as us!"
    Dined on 12/30/2013
  • "I had high expectations going into this meal, so my review might be a bit biased. I enjoyed the experience overall; however, the portions were incredibly small - without a doubt the smallest portions I have ever experienced. The cerviche was spectacular, everything else was extremely lackluster. My favorite aspect of our meal was the "poker face" - a very smooth margarita type drink. Don't come here hungry, my friend and I had to go out for Pizza after a three course meal! I'd come back to grab a drink and people watch, but that's about it."

  • "Great staff. Very good food, although menu is a bit limited. Definitely do stay for the dessert."

  • "We really enjoyed our meal here on Christmas. Drinks were great and the wine pours very generous. Especially good was the artisianal cheese plate, short ribs and pork chop. Hotel decor was beautiful as well."
    Dined on 12/25/2013
  • "I found the food good but a bit heavy, spotty in execution (my pappardelle (sp?) was cooked unevenly, mostly tender with some sections al dente), and a tad overpriced for the quality. Points for creativity for goose confit w/ chestnut bucatini, though."
    Dined on 12/25/2013
  • "I went here for my college graduation dinner and absolutely loved it. The food is truly to die for. Everything I tried was incredible. If you are interested in fine dining and a great place for a special occasion I would definitely recommend Clink!"

  • "The Liberty Hotel is the reincarnation of the old Charles Street jail. While I'm sure nobody wanted to be their a hundred years ago, it has transformed into a hip distination. We came to Clink for Christmas even dinner, partly because they had a table at the correct time and we're close to the church. The holiday menu was terrific- with each of us having to make sure we didn't overlap. Fois Grois, steak tartare and a very light ceviche of tiny bay scallops started the meal before mains of rch goose confit on housemade chestnut bucatini; a rich, unctious short rib paired with root vegtable gratin and a generous venison chop. The meal closed out with each of us convinced we'd picked the right dessert. Good cocktails and wines!."
