This is a nice spot for dining with the one you love in an Art Deco atmosphere with live Jazz music. There is parking nearby or your can use the Valet service. Very flavorful food with options to choose either small or large plates. We shared two savory small plates: mushroom bruschetta and beef tips with mashed potatoes which were both very tasty and enough to satisfy us. Although the menu and wine list are not extensive, most people should be able to find something they enjoy. There was wide variety of types of wines to choose from, however, there was not much of a selection of each type or kind. Service was good and nothing felt rushed. Nice atmosphere. Nice live jazz music. I'd go there again.

Real cool place, looks great inside! The drinks were great, beer list was good, and the service wasn't overly attentive, which we appreciated. We never left wanting. The food was good, reasonable price. The scotch egg and baked brie and shrimp and gritz were fantastic, but my gnocchi wasn't what I expected based on the menu, more of a salad but still good. It could have been that it was brought out premature (no cheese)... that happens; nothing I get too riled-up over. I'd definitely recommend this place for a fun night out. bring a date, bring your mother, you can't lose.

My date and I had dinner reservations for 6PM on a Sunday, during the Detroit Jazz Festival weekend. We beat the dinner rush, so the hostess allowed us to pick our own seating location. We chose the quaint and private booth that is located on the side of the stage - there's a booth on each side. There wasn't a live band playing at the time, so noise/sound wasn't an issue. The food was excellent and the service was friendly, personable, and attentive. We both ordered the Chicken Picatta, Mac & Cheese, and finished with the Vanilla Bean Cheesecake w/ chocolate sauce. 5 stars on everything. Take your date here, guys...she'll thank you later.

Surprisingly, this was out first time at Cliff Bell's. We went for an earlier dinner before the music started up. The menu is sounds interesting with some usual favorites and some more interesting sounding main dishes. The food though was underwhelming. It was not very special and with that too pricy. The small plates or appetizers we good. The bar menu was good and the drinks lived up to it. Not anything close to a full service cocktail bar but still good. The setting is beautiful though as it is close to the Fox - you do get a bunch of baseball fans too - and the building itself awesome. We do wNt to go back but only for the small plates, the music, and the setting.

Perfect romantic spot for great jazz & dining. Easy walking to/from The Fox Theatre - "bookend" your evening by dining to live music before a show and enjoy cocktails & more jazz after. Though food selections were somewhat limited, we enjoyed the creative dishes we had - wild mushroom bruschetta (LOADED w mushrooms), beef tips on garlic mashed potatoes, arugula salad with bacon & poached egg. Appreciated the "light fare" option - generous servings & reasonably priced. Will definitely return & spread the word!

Cliff Bell's is a gem. The food was really good but the wait staff was even better. Our waitress knew a lot about the history of the restaurant including the decor and was willing to share. The room itself is absolutely wonderful. It was obviously well appointed when it opened and the refurbishing has been excellent. In addition the music was great and the cover was very reasonable.

Was looking for a jazz band experience, but on a Sunday night it was a DJ Electric Swing burlesque show. While this sounds weird it was entertaining. A bit eclectic. The food was good, not great but good --proportions were moderate, side items such as Salad and even bread with a pasta dish was ala carte, although they did give us some toast when we asked for bread... It is a nice place with a great vibe. There was a cover charge for the Entertainment. I would advise checking this out on other nights during the week, but I assume it has a strong clientele as it was fairly full even on a Sunday. Overall, I enjoyed my evening.

Cliff Bell's is, by far, my favorite place for brunch. They've recently hired a new chef, so the menu has changed slightly, but the food is still incredible. The Croque Madam is my go to. However, I hear the steak and eggs and chicken and waffles are superb, as well. Let's be honest, who doesn't love bottomless mimosas? They are very good at keeping your glass full, too! Jarrod Champion is also great and usually plays for brunch on Sundays. Anytime we have a visitor, we take them here. We haven't had a chance to try dinner, but it's definitely on our list!

Horrible service. Server didn't approach us for ten minutes after being seated. After valet charged $40 after a $20 quote. Bouncer charged cover for a show that didn't begin until an hour and a half after my reservation. Burgers were highlighted on the menu. Most small plates were 86'd. I ordered a dirty gin martini on the rocks and was served a clean one, up, without a beverage napkin. We left as soon as possible. Around 1am we returned for our car, stopped in for a nightcap, and was told cover was $5 apiece. So we left and spent our money elsewhere. I will return only if it's on them next time.

I tried Cliff Bells a couple of days ago with my wife and another couple. None of us enjoyed our food. My wife ordered a steak that had no seasoning, and the chicken that I ordered had so much garlic on it that I was "vampire safe." My friend ordered a burger that was burnt on the outside, and bright red on the inside. Although the food was bad, the service was good. Hopefully Cliff Bells food quality improves. If not, I won't be back.

Cliff Bell's was high on the recommendation list from several friends. Atmosphere was fantastic, food was so-so. We knew ahead of time that our choices would be limited as we are vegetarians, but thought the dishes would be more than "okay" given the reviews we had read and participation in restaurant week. While we would go back for jazz, we probably won't dine there again.

I wish I could comment on the food but the waiter informed us that they did not receive the shipment for 4 entrees including the one I wanted. They didn't even have the one vegan pasta dish which is puzzling since its just pasta and veggies! Drink service was ok. The waiter was nice but very slow. At one point we caught him watching the show and taking pictures with his cell phone. With that said, the performers made up for the dining experience. The Soul Rebels were great! I won't go back to eat or drink but I'll return for the music.

The menu was small, which is always a good sign. The food was excellent, the meat was cooked perfectly. The only complaints I have is the noise made it impossible to talk without going outside and we had to get drinks at the bar because it took the waiter 15 minutes to come to the table. Over all, if you're in it for the food, it's well worth the trouble.

My friends and I are from Canada and were held up a few minutes at the tunnel causing us to miss our reso "15 minute window" by five minutes so our table was given away. We accepted a table on the bar side of the restaurant and requested to speak with the manager who quickly understood our "border"situation and made it right. I started off with a couple of the Detroit Dirty's...Yummy!!! My girlfriends and I ordered the scallops, mac and cheese apps, calamari & the pork sliders. All was fantastic but what was outstanding was the way the scallops were cooked...to perfection, not overdone as we've experienced at other restaurants. Dinner entertainment was great! Thank you Cliff Bells, you now have a couple of Canadian lifers!

I went to Cliff Bell's with my girlfriend before a show at the Opera House. The subtle storefront of the restaurant lent perfectly to a speakeasy feel with great live entertainment. The food was outstanding. We had a good bottle of wine for around $30 and everything was priced for a nice evening out. We wanted to try something new after years of going downtown and could not have been happier to find Cliff Bell's. We will definitely be headed back sooner than later. Make reservations and check out the entertainment schedule (some nights they charge cover based on the performers).

PROS: Very good food. Apps: Calamari - little chewy but breaded perfectly. Salmon - delicious all around. Entrees: Dad love his scallops. Though there were only 3. Definitely not a man sized portion. Mom had the salmon. Said it was the best shes ever had and shes had a lot of salmon from all over (including recent New York trip). My wife and I had filet. Very good. Cooked to our liking and juicy. By the way i had sweet potato salad with bacon...AMAZING!!! other pros: environment, music, quite reasonable prices. CONS: -Had my heart set on duck mac and cheese. Server said they were out (they were open for 45 min) -Salads came before apps (WHAT!?) -Had worst seats...by entrance. AVOID! You lose the environment of the place. -quite loud

I would come back here for beverages and entertainment, for sure, but not for a pre-theater dinner. The tomato basil soup was thick and odd and served without a cracker, crouton or sliver of bread. I felt like I was eating a bowl of ragu. The vegetarian pasta dish was kind of chewy and a bit bland, although the veggies were nice and fresh and it was served piping hot. The mac and cheese crock that my dinner companion had was absolutely wonderful and would really hit the spot late at night along with a drink and some music. Our waiter was moderately attentive.
