  • "I had the bacon wrapped scaillion / duck confit w/dumplings / ginger bar . Not only were they out of creme brulee but also the ice cream that was supposed to accompany my ginger bar! Oh well, dessert aside, the dinner was sooo tasty & the ambiance was amazing"

  • "My wife and I at at Cliff Bell's after a Detroit Tigers game. We were too early for the music, but we still had a wonderful time. One could almost expect to see Bogey sitting at the bar in this beautifully restored spot. The food was good (excellent beef short ribs) and the service was outstanding. By 5:30 the bar was jumping. We would go back just to sit at the bar and listen to jazz."

  • "We had dinner w my husband brother& wife on a Thursday night during Detroit restaurant week.I have always wanted to try cliff's, so I was excited.they did not let me down! Great ambiance, we had a corner booth by the jazz band. our wait staff was perfect, because they definitely knew when to come around, but did not overdo it. my highlight was the swordfish, it was like 2 perfect little white steaks Yummmm! Only complaint is that the drinks were a bit pricey for what they were, but we would definitely go back for the food& atmosphere."

  • "I understand the concept of restaurant week and expect the portions will be small but the swordfish medallions entree was, although tasty, shockingly spare. Two small medallions with no starch or vegetables with it. I'm not a big eater and I left quite hungry. My friends' entrees were just a little bigger. I've eaten at restaurant week since it's inception and have always had a reasonably filling meal at other establishment. Disappointed!"

  • "Love the vibe of this restaurant. Felt like I was in an episode of 'Madmen'. Servic was excellent as was food."

  • "When it comes to late-night eats and music that will satisfy your ears Cliff Bell's is the place to be. Don't let a sometimes $10 cover stop you from going through the doors, it is always worth it because the high quality music talent that this place attracts. The food is high quality. The Salmon Carpaccio is a must get. "

  • "Horrible service. Took 20 mins to get drinks, 45 mins for main course. No regular menu option during Detroit Restaurant Week. Also, no option to order an additional course (and pay for it) - some lame excuse about not having enough food. One first course option was gone (day 3 of DRW) and replaced with an additional second course option (??). Waiter was socially awkward. We were going to a theater show at 7:30. With a 5:30 reservation you would have thought we had more than enough time. We were 5 mins late to the show. Food was good. Not great but a nice selection. Fun bar scene and music great. I will be back - probably not to eat."

  • "Went on a date. Food and service is fair at best As for our poor waitress she had way to many tables to service with food and drink. Drinks and song were grea,t if you like jazz. which we do"

  • "Everything we had was good. I realize that we went on Restaurant week, however we had to change our order 3 times because they were out of so many different types of food. Other than that great atmosphere and food as always."

  • "We had a great meal at Cliff Bells for Restaurant Week. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was terrific. Service was a little spotty - some dishes were delivered missing items (dessert a la mode, missing the a la mode). After our dinner, while enjoying our drinks and conversations, the hostess came up and told us we needed to give up the table for a 9:30 reservation. It wasn't even 9 yet. It was really rude and left a bad taste in our mouth. We won't hold the restaurant to just one person but the hostess should not have spoken to us like that - especially since there was almost 45 minutes before 9:30 and many empty tables in the restaurant."

  • "dissapointment started the minute we parked, $10.00 parking in a run down lot. We had to wait at the door , no hostess for at least 10 minutes. She finally gave us a table w a partial view of the band, which was very loud we could not talk. Service was harried and slow. Small appetizer plate of olives and cashews but no bread basket, we had to ask for crackers. Food was good and High School Jazz band great and entertaining but to loud for small place."

  • "We hadn't been to Cliff Bell's in years and were pleased to see that it's still thriving. The vintage decor--especially the curved wooden ceiling--make the noise level almost unbearable--and that was before the musicians started playing. Tables are very crowded; plan on making new friends with the table next to you! The food was outstanding and the service very good considering how busy they were on a Friday night. All-in-all a very pleasant tho' noisy evening."

  • "Everything was great except for the portion size. The menu says "scallops" but I only get 1? Food was good but not enough for the price. Besides that everything was excellent! Great band."

  • "Had a great time hitting Cliff Bells for brunch prior to a show Sunday at the Fox. Made reservations because I was a little nervous with the Tigers having an afternoon game. Was seated promptly and quickly asked for our drink orders. Gotta love the bottomless mimosas and bloody mary's. And the food was delicious! Can't wait to go back for Restaurant Week to try out the dinner menu."

  • "We love Cliff Bell's. The atmosphere is as wonderful as the food! The retro decor is of the restaurant and bar is amazing and I feel as though Frank Sinatra will be walking in for dinner! I would recommend the crispy brussel sprout and goat cheese appetizer to everyone including those who hate brussel sprouts....they were outstanding!"

  • "Quality of food does not justify price. All 4 in our party had stomach issues after dining. LONG wait on food. Server did not come to check on everything after food was delivered. Honestly couldn't wait to get out. BEWARE!"

  • "What a great night! The service was outstanding. Samantha was attentive and efficient. She made excellent recommendations. Our meal was delicious. If I had to say anything on the negative, it was the jazz band was a bit loud. They were very good but for a small venue, they may want to turn it down a bit. It did not deter from a wonderful evening. I can't wait to visit again."

  • "I had reservations on a recent Sunday. There was only one other couple in the restaurant part of the place. It was 10 minutes before someone brought water. About 10 minutes before the waitress returned to take our order. There was an extremely long wait for our entree. The waitress did not return to our table until we were almost finished.. We had to wait about 10-15 minutes to "catch" our waitress to ask for the tab. When looking it over, I noticed that there was 2 charges for the wine: $7.00 for the white zin which I never received and $12.00 for the little glass of other wine. This was pointed out to the waitress and she tried to tell me that it was taken off. I showed her that it was not."

  • "Given the fact that I've lived in Detroit my whole life and have never heard of this restaurant, I was very surprised at just how much my wife and I enjoyed the experience. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was perfect for a night out and the jazz music was a nice touch. Our waiter was a bit preoccupied with other patrons so it took us a while between having our plates collected and actually receiving the bill but this was an otherwise truly enjoyable night. I would definitely recommend cliff bells to anyone looking for a romantic setting or simply an awesome meal."

  • "I've been here several times for some drinks. It's really one of the greatest jazz clubs in the city. The best play there, and it's a perfect place for drinks. I've seen the menu and based on price thought it would be some really fine dining. Decided to go there for valentines day with my date. EXTREMELY dissapointed. Besides the one good point (the music) everything else was pretty awful. The food was mediocre at best, my main dish was inedible. I had to send it back it was so bad. And we're talking $20 a plate and up. No cheap stuff here. We were caught in a territory war between several servers, and the one that won our battle took forever, and ended up bringing the bill before we were even finished or could ask for a night cap. Awful!"

  • "Second time I have been to Cliff Bell's, first time for brunch. Amazing food, great jazz and spectacular service. It is quite loud with the music and the conversations but expected for a place that plays live jazz. Already planning my next visit. Can not recommend enough, absolutely Detroit GEM!!!"

  • "I've been to cliff bells before a couple times. Though this past Saturday my boyfriend threw me a surprise birthday party there. It was absolutely amazing! Perfect. I love the music, atmosphere, food and drinks! It's nice to. Get away from the daily life routine and, step into a place that makes you forget and you are enjoying every minute thanks again Cliff Bells"

  • "My husband and I went for a date night and it was great. We sat in the bar area and our server was very attentive. The music is always good. The only thing is they need to dim the lights in the bar area when the band starts. It would increase the ambiance a bit more. Otherwise everything was great!"

  • "A Detroit must. This is one reason why Detroit will make it, but service needs to improve greatly if they are going to compete with Chicago, NY and other great food cities."

  • "Overall we had a wonderful time! We were the winners of a $100 gift card from a bridal show. Before we received our gift card we had never heard of the place. The food was OUTSTANDING, amazing, A+!! It did take a while for it to come out, but it was hot and well worth the wait. We wished that we would have seen our waiter more. We had empty drinks for quite sometime. But overall we had a great experience and look forward to returning soon!"

  • "This was my first experience at Cliff Bell's and was quite surprised to walk in the door and be stopped by a man who said there was a $5 per person cover charge before I could give the hostess my name for the reservation. I had an entertainment book premier dining card and was told that it was not accepted even though the restaurant was listed as participating in the program. The food was good but the music was very loud and the restaurant is not conducive to having a conversation during dinner. My reservation was for 8:00 p.m. and the waitress informed us that the special for the night had already sold out. I thought it rather unusual that at 8 o'clock it was sold out already."

  • "Cliff Bell's was a great choice for a Friday night dinner with jazz outing. Parking was a cinch (across the street with 1/2 block walk). A friendly greeting at the door was followed by immediate seating. Swordfish was terrific. And we were glad we tried the Duck Mac 'N Cheese, which we had heard so much about. After dinner we enjoyed quality jazz with qualify cocktails. The mixologist at the bar made Godfathers better than the ones I make for myself at home. Sitting close to the stage, I felt little bits of NYC or Chicago jazz clubs in the air. We'll be going back, for sure."

  • "Cliff Bell's is a cozy welcoming venue for a good evening's jazz session. The choice of ale was excellent and the food outstanding. We had an especially enjoyable evening since our son was playing bass trombone with the Huron High School Jazz Band. The club's decor is unusual and tasteful, quite ornate. We felt at home with wonderful music and support from the waiting staff."

  • "Had so much fun at Cliff Bell's, great food and the jazz group Spare parts was excellent. Make sure you request your car at least twenty minutes before you are ready to leave and stay at your table. The valet service is good but a bit slow."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "Cliff Bell's is a jazz club, that happens to have a bar and food. The jazz is the primary attraction although the food is pretty good. Service somewhat slowed by the group playing; but since we expected that I have no issue with it. The best part is the speakeasy atmosphere giving you an opportunity to dress up or down as the mood hits you and listen to some great music."

  • "Come for the music only. Food was subpar and under seasoned . I was surprised that this iconic dinner club had what I equate to wedding food."
