Diner Reviews
  • "Outstanding service staff. Extremely friendly and helpful with suggestions. The food flavors and preparation were quite excellent, I just wish the tapas portions were a little larger for two. Good vibe to the place."

  • "Had tix to Book of Mormon (which we walked out on during intermission - bleh) so made reservations for 6pm. Valet parking very handy to the Pantages. Waiter was excellent, made recommendations for us, being first-timers. Had an outstanding cocktail called something like Vinebury, never tasted anything like it. The fresh bread from the oven was as good as my Syrian boyfriend's mother made back in the day and he hasn't tasted since. Dips were very flavorful. Chicken kabob was small, simply chicken on a stick, but moist and full of flavor. Roast lamb was cooked perfectly. These are "small plates", so you don't get much. Very much enjoyed the fried Brussels Sprouts, which were recommended. Great dessert! Excellent service. Pricey."

  • "There is an amazing selection of small plates. All that we ordered were wonderful. Tasty and creative. We were just two and couldn't help from over ordering. It would be even better to go as a four top or greater and sample even more of these tasty dishes. The only downside was that the cocktails were overpriced and light on the booze. The tariff is high for the alcohol, but the food more than made up for it."

  • "We were seated outside of the main dining table, the food was mainly okay, some dishes were superb but others were less then good."

  • "The great thing is that all these small plates are easy to share and you get the chance to try a number of dishes! Love the energy and vibe, and it is perfect if you are catching a show at either the Pantages or the Fonda Theater....it is a hop and a skip away!!"

  • "Outstanding food. The fried brussel sprouts are what we came back for. The portion sized are a little ridiculous. I don't remember the serving being so small . There were three of us and we each got about a tablespoon and a half of fried brussel sprout leaves. The mushrooms were amazing as well. We also split the flatbread which was amazing., a beef kebob and the mushrooms as well as a few cocktails. The drinks are pretty expensive for how weak they are . Not really worth $15. We wouldn't come here often or when really hungry. It's a once in a while kind of restaurant."

  • "The tapas-style servings are perfect for those who want to experience new foods without the worry of wasting an entire entree on a dish you might not like. Tried the lamb shank for the first time and it was delicious. The portion was just right for a first experience. The menu has a great selection of food and I enjoyed the way the it was laid out by type (i.e. vegetables, salads, meats, dips, etc.). Would definitely recommend Cleo to everyone."

  • "Really enjoyed every dish we tried. A lot of great tastes. Would only warn you not to listen to the server recommending 3 dishes to a person. We were stuffed and left food after ordering 2 to a person."

  • "Charming ambience for med food. Large spaces. Excellent for pre or post theatre dining."

  • "Service was not that great this time. Needed to remind waitress about our missing items and did not check in often enough."

  • "This was my second time to Cleo's. The food has been excellent overall. Loved the flatbread and the brussel sprouts with hazelnuts, plus we enjoyed the kabobs. Great place to have a nice meal before a show at the Pantages. The only problem is the restaurant is very dark and it's hard to read the menu. But once we ordered, it was fine. The service is excellent without being pushy. I will definitely be back because there's lots more dishes to try!"

  • "I 'm a foodie. But i do not get to go to great restaurants as often as I would like. I loved the tapas style menu because i didn't have to decide on only one thing. I hate reading a menu with so many great choices and then being forced to narrow it down to one. instead i got to select a variety of great dishes. The drink menu had some awesome choices. The Old Hollywood is an excellent take on the old fashion. The restaurant was busy but the service was excellent regardless. The waiter made great recommendations. We tried about 5 different plates. everything was amazing. The highlight for me was the scallops, but the Brussels sprouts were amazing. Seriously.. Brussels sprouts... i never thought i'd say that..."

  • "Located about a block from The Pantages-this Mediterranean tapas inspired restaurant is the ideal choice. Ask for Jeff, the server!"

  • "The food and atmosphere were fantastic. Not sure if our waitress was having a bad day, but felt neglected and inconvenienced by her. That was too bad as we were all in a great mood, celebrating a dear friend's birthday. If I were the chef, I wouldn't tolerate poor service as I know firsthand how hard the kitchen staff works to ensure that EVERYTHING they prepared was fantastic...and it was!! Will give them another shot at service."

  • "Jay was attentive and efficient throughout our visit. The service staff was accommodative,:we had a surprise visit from our son who lives in Hollywood and the staff set him up with a chair. We didn't miss a beat and we were off to the Book of Mormon, without a hitch. Great start to a wonderful evening!"

  • "I always have a good time here. I come to this restaurant for special occasions & the food is consistently excellent & delicious. We had a small issue with our reservations (the party occupying our reserved table wouldn't leave), but the management made it right & really made our experience very enjoyable. The atmosphere is great & the server was very friendly & attentive. Overall a wonderful experience."

  • "Dined at Cleo before Pantages. It was impeccable! The staff is exceeding knowledgeable, quick, and courteous. Menu can be daunting, but our server helped translate and all of our meal was exceptional. I hadn't been here in a couple years, so it's nice to see that they're still as great as ever!"

  • "Cleo has a great vibe, great location, helpful staff, and some real gems on the menu. But, the food quality is a bit uneven. The crowd was very stylish and hip -- no frumpy jeans to be seen -- and the ambiance was intimate yet industrial. Our waiter was knowledgeable, unobtrusive, responsive, everything that you could ask for. High points on the menu for us were the Lebaneh with feta, brussel sprouts, and roasted lamb with couscous. The lamb was amazing. It was cooked perfectly, nicely seasoned, and the couscous and lebaneh provided a perfect complement. Low point were the scallops. First try all were undercooked and the second try one of the three was undercooked. An unfortunate blight on an otherwise great evening."

  • "I was in two nights in a row during a recent business trip. The food was outstanding. Fresh, quality ingredients and an excellent touch by the line cooks with the seasoning. The brussel sprouts are exceptional. The octopus and lamb were both delicious. I could go on...and on."

  • "Had dinner in this eclectic and trendy restaurant before seeing a play at the Pantages, which is just around the corner. For cocktails, we had the Vinebury and Raspberry twist, both excellent. Tapas items purchased were brussel sprouts, shrimp kebobs, moussakah, mushroom flatbread, beet salad. dessert & coffee. Too much food for two people, but it was all so very delicious, we couldn't stop. Ask for their sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Whole meal for two was $100, which could have easily been less, but was still a reasonable price for all we had. The beet salad and mushroom flatbread would have been enough and we would have been happy and satisfied. But the food was just too good to stop."

  • "Lebaneh with Feta (comes with tasty bread), Moussaka, mushrooms, scallops, brussels sprouts. Perfect location before going to Pantages Theater. Sit in front room for a quieter location. The main room is very noisy."

  • "We always get seated at the same table #36 and it is perfect for two people. Danielle was a great server and would were very happy with her recommendations. I think they must get an extra buck to push the Brussels sprouts, everyone seem to be eating them, but they are great. I had the cauliflower and it had a taste I could not place. It was a French high end curry and Danielle told me where to buy it. The food is great and so many interesting things to eat. Great for going before or after the Pantages shows. Only complaint was the Goose on the rocks I ordered and it must have been a measured shot and not a free pour. For $13 it was the only thing that was a problem. Next time I will get a drink across the street before hand."

  • "Cleo was a great find. We were able to get an early reservation to eat before going to the Pantages theater just across the street. The only down side was that the restaurant is very dark and so it is difficult to read the menu. But the food is wonderful, the service is excellent, and the presentation of the food had little unusual and unexpected little extras that added to the whole dining experience."

  • "This was our first visit to Cleo and we weren't disappointed. It's not cheap--many of the small plates are $15--but these "small" plates are actually fairly large; five plus a shared dessert was ideal for two of us. The kitchen has a deft hand with Middle Eastern specialties and especially with vegetable dishes, but we also enjoyed a duck and chicken "bastilla" served in honeyed filo dough and a superb, falling-off-the-bone lamb shank. The toffee pudding was a perfect finale. Excellent cocktails, but beware--many of the cocktail specials are also $15. Service was friendly, organized, and smart--our server made several great suggestions. Starting at 6, we easily had 40 minutes to spare before an 8 p.m. curtain at Pantages."

  • "I brought my girlfriend for her Birthday with my brother and his girlfriend 3/5/14. Although us guys eat meat, the girls are mostly vegetarian. The variety of meat and non-meat dishes is what drew us to Cleo. Decor is a mix of old Hollywood and modern with low ambient lighting. Staff was friendly and, most importantly, our waiter made spot on suggestions of dishes and specialty mixed drinks. We started with drinks, I got a Vineburry which was amazing, aromatic and spicy. It is a tapas style so we ordered a lot of dishes to share. Stand outs were the Lamb Shank, Mushroom flatbread and brussel sprout chips. We finished with 3 deserts: Apple Strudel, Toffy Pudding and flowerless chocolate cake. All 3 were amazing! A bit pricey but worth it."

  • "This being the 3rd time we have been to this restaurant, it still doesn't cease to amaze me from the environment and great vibe of people to the flavorful foods. We have has just about everything on the menu and it was all perfect. Our server was Sam and he was also energetic and made us feel comfortable and laugh with a couple jokes... We are already planning our next trip there. We recommend any and everyone to try this place. And the drinks are perfect also."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner prior to seeing the Book of Mormon with a fantastic and attentive waiter, Jay, to make the evening even more special! Excellent food and wine recommendations. Park with them versus one of the other nearby lots or you'll be waiting for 40 minutes to get your car after the show."

  • "Many of the dishes were salty. Wine and drinks expensive. Brussel sprout dish very greasy. Overall a bit over rated and expensive. Not sure I will return . And very noisy , which seems to be the trend that young people like"

  • "Loved the selection of small plates. Great flavors and variety all the way through to dessert. Good place to have dinner before show at Pantages. Not a great place for quiet conversation, though, because noise level of dining room when full is extremely loud."
    Dined on 3/6/2014
  • "Incredibly noisy, tables are on top of each other, waitress actually said to me when I asked her what her recommendations were since she knew it was our first time there, and she said " that's my least favorite question, because everything here is so good"! Really? So we looked at the table next to ours and their food looked good, so we ordered what hey had..food was good but not enough to deal with the noise and attitudes.."

  • "Almost every menu had unusual and delicious ingredients. Enjoyed the experience. Room has a cool vibe, but very loud. Service excellent, crowd was pre-theatre; served promptly without rushing."

  • "I've been to Cleo over 20 times, this time we didn't even make it into the restaurant, they have some seats in the lobby. The two of us spent over $300 while seated in the lobby, See Yah SBE, last dollar I spend with you.."

  • "A lot of reataurants lose their appeal after a few years. Cleo is still delicious as always! A MUST are the brussel sprouts and flat breads. Order hummus or other Mediterranean dips and it comes with the most delicious, warm naan/pita bread. One thing I still don't like about Cleo is the close quarters of the tables. You are sometimes so close to the parties on either side of you that it is hard to have a conversation because you can barely hear yourself. Regardless, my favorite spot to eat before seeing a play at pantages."
    Dined on 2/27/2014
  • "Our drinks, Domas, and Brussel sprouts came out pretty quickly and we watched the staff scurry around preparing themselves for a party of 10+ that would be sitting across from us. Since our waiter was busy taking the orders after the large party got seated, he sent the hostess to ask us about drink refills. The drink refills were frequent, but no sign of our waiter or food-odd since now the party of 10 had gotten 2 deliveries of food. So I flagged down the waiter and added an order of beets. The beets came out about 5 minutes later ahead of anything else followed by the couscous w veggies. While each dish was delicious it was unfortunate that the meat courses were all brought at the end (party of 10 were blowing out candles on dessert.)"
