A word from Clementine - Baltimore
Clementine likes to tell a story using food. Sometimes the story is a history lesson, sometimes it features the latest culinary trend and, usually, its a mixture of both.

We change our dinner menu daily, using local and seasonal ingredients as much as possible, make our own charcuterie and, in general, offer fabulous food and drinks for not so much dinero.

Our award-winning bar offers a rotating, hand-picked selection of unusual (and exceptional) boutique wines, craft beers and artisanal spirits. We even offer retail wine sales during open hours! Sunday, too!!!

Two of us dined at Clementine on a recent Sunday evening. One of us started with the beet salad, and the other had the Jonathan apple salad. In both cases, there was very little of the themed ingredient. Both salads were about 90% lettuce. There were 3 tiny apple slices in my salad. For entree, one of us ordered the bacon wrapped meatloaf with mashed potatoes. The potatoes were cold. The bacon and meatloaf were dry. The other ordered the pan roasted trout, which was quite good. We also had the pickle platter, which included a healthy portion of kimchi and a side of mac and cheese that was huge, not terribly warm, and a little dry. On the service side, the server garbled our order. My partner clearly told him that we were ordering two entrees and intended to split them. But what came was a full order of trout and a child's portion of meatloaf that looked like it was cut from the end of the loaf. We didn't expect the kimchi on the pickle platter because my partner made it clear that even moderately spicy foods would cause pain and indigestion. Our server should have warned us about the kimchi. The other diners were an affable sort and it's clear that the neighborhood supports the restaurant. Having grown up in that neighborhood a half century ago, I wanted this to work. But it just didn't work.

food was fresh and very tasty. they do not offer you a balanced meal though. like they offer curry without rice or bread (bread is not good btw). they will have a meat dish with not a drop of carbs like potatoes or something. they need to balance their dishes. service was terrible. we got there at 6 didn't leave til 9 because they took an hour to bring us anything. they didn't turn around the table the entire night. the waiters were very nice and answered our questions in detail. the owner is kind of weird and pretends to care but she's a bit off and can be offensive.

We went out for our anniversary breakfast early one Saturday morning. While there were only a couple patrons there when we entered - by the time we left they were getting busy with several groups. The food was great, coffee fresh and the bloody Mary's were great as always.

I love the food at Clementine; it's inventive, locally sourced, and absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is casual and pleasant; however, many of the bench seats and chairs are too low for the tables. I often am uncomfortable with the seating I'm offered. The service is rather variable. On our recent visit for my husband's birthday our waiter completely forgot to serve us the coffee we'd ordered after dinner. When he remember, after we'd finished our desserts, he unilaterally decided that we didn't want the coffee anymore and deducted the cost of dessert from our check to make up for forgetting. Ok, I guess that was nice, but I'd prefer to have been asked if I still wanted my coffee. The place was not busy.

WE visited Clementine's based on our friends recommendation while visiting in the D.C. area. We were very pleased with all the areas of the restaurant. The food was excellent, service was outstanding and the atmosphere was most pleasing. We are retired and travel 3-4 months out of the year always looking for different dinning experiences. Clementine's was one of the best food experiences we have ever had and would recommend it to anyone looking for quality food.

If you are into the farm-to-table food, Clementine is a very good place to go to. The menu is kind of small, but everything we ordered tasted really good. Be prepared for longer-than-usual wait for your food, food service is slow. But drinks are supplied quickly and every time your glass is empty there is someone by the table asking if you would like another one. And I have to mentioned that this is one of the few restaurants where I did not have to ask for water even once- there was a person who filled up my water glass every time it was half-empty (really impressive, my usual experience is having to look for a waiter and ask for water, or even just walk to the bar and get it from the bartender when tired of waiting and asking for it).

  • Early Bird Did NOT Get The Marquez!
    MondayDiner
    Dined on 9/18/2014
While this was a special occaision, we expected better from such upscale prices. I ordered the Marquez, a special of the day, I thought. However, an early 6 pm reservation did not guarantee my selection, which was out already. Settled for the Charcuterie instead, with a side of the Mac&Cheese, which arrived in a huge boat! My companion ordered the Red&Blue salad, which arrived red, but not a speck of Blue in sight. We expected Bleu Cheese crumbled on top, but that was glaringly absent! Bleu apparently referred to the white dressing that disappeared on the white plate, and had to be found by accident. The red beets were totally raw and NOT roasted, no matter what the waiter and manager claimed. No touch of oil or salt in evidence, either.

Clementine is one of our favorite places to go, but this time was no up to par. Our out-of-town visitor ordered a dish we had never had before, the Korean hot pot, and it was just underwhelming. It did not come in an actual hot pot, for one thing, and the rice was not very sticky. It only had one sweet sauce, and was not very well seasoned. I guess Asian food is not what this place does well. I was sad that our guest was disappointed. We also love the lattes and the homemade breads, but the espresso machine was broken, and they were out of everything but coffee cake. We ordered the cake, but never got it from the waiter. The waiter, although nice, barely came back to our table. We never got coffee or water refills, and we never got the cake

My sister and her husband were visiting from out of state with their 13 year old and 2 year old. I wanted to take them someplace that had a great menu and yet was still family friendly. Clementine was the perfect fit. It's a bit off the beaten path so we weren't sure what to expect at first. Upon arrival we were impressed with the on-site charcuterie and great selection of spirits. We each ordered something different from the menu and sampled each other's plates. The flavor and love put into the food was obvious and delightful. The fact that there was a "play area" for my nephew to preoccupy himself with while we enjoyed an amazing dinner was such a treat! We will definitely be back.

We highly recommend Clementine. It's a great find in the Remington neighborhood and that has really good food, a great, carefully selected wine list, and really really tasty desserts. Our dinner there had a great steak, delightful catfish, and an outstanding in house made lamb sausage. The waitress told us the sausage had a pattern of selling out in just a few hours. For dessert, we had a wonderful peanut butter pound cake, peach pie, and bread pudding. Overall highly recommended

They know what they're doing when it comes to food. I think for the other reviewers who said "eh" the kitchen made a mistake/kitchen got rushed when they had too many customers. True, that shouldn't happen, but I can tell the chef/s know what they're doing and it's worth going back always if that's the case. If you go when it's half empty, you'll probably have a great meal--though I did have one bad dish. The blue cheese salad was horrible. But all the other dishes, the steak tar tar, the chacuterie plate, pate and the trout and corn was perfect. Perfect! Definitely worth a trip. Happy to go back there two times in a row over trying a new place...and I don't usually think that way. But when they get it right, they get it spot on.

Don't discount this spot just because the menu is not big. We had a group where everyone tried something different. Although some dishes are not always your "traditional" beef, pork, fish, not one of us was dissappointed. Going out of the box to try something new was a pleasant surprise. The flavors were really great. Also a big choice of liquors you won't find in many other restaurants, if at all.

Food was great. There was a fun play area for kids which made the dinner perhaps more enjoyable for the young parents in our group. Certainly was not the atmosphere I was expecting as I had eaten here in a different room before. It made the dinner easier since the young children in our group had toys upon which to focus. The negative was the activity around the table was distracting.

What a change from the normal stressful dining-with-kids-experience. We went early, the kids played in the play area while we waited for the food to come. My husband and I had an actual conversation! The portions are large (kids ate the rest of their dinner for lunch the next day). The chicken was so good. It tasted like...a farm. I have no other way to describe it. It was so flavorful. My husband was thought the fish was fantastic. Will definitely go back when we need a night out to ourselves (with the kids)!
