A word from Clay Oven
The original Clay Oven, or Tandoor, was made of clay-earth. It comes from the time of the Mogul Empire that ruled India from the 16th to the 19th centuries. The heat for a tandoor is traditionally generated by a charcoal or wood fire burning inside the oven itself. The clay oven's design exposes meats, fish, and bread to the unique flavors that come from live fires. Temperatures in a tandoor can reach 900°F, cooking the food quickly, sealing in all the moist, wonderful flavors. Our delicious version of this classic Indian cooking combines our careful respect for the details of preparation with a special attention to presentation and incredible service...that's our tradition. Come, enjoy our elegant ambiance, hospitality, and delicious food!

This was our second time here and we enjoyed it very much. The pomegranate curry is amazing. We liked their take on the butter chicken too. Very delicious. We're looking forward to our third visit, whenever we get up that way.

  • Our third trip to Clay Oven
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009

Our third trip to Clay Oven included out-of-town relatives experiencing the venue for the first time. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, Indian beer selection, and chai, and we all plan to return when they're next in town. We who live closer will continue to make excursions to this delightful Woodinville restaurant as often as possible to work through the generous menu and settle on favorites.

  • Good but better options in Seattle

After reading the rave reviews on yelp, urbanspoon etc I decided to make the trip from Seattle to check it out. The bottom line is it's a good neighborhood restaurant but if you want great Indian food or a romantic feel then there are better places in Seattle and Bellevue. The ambiance is about as good as can be expected from a strip mall restaurant with the formal limitations imposed by a rectangular box with tables all perfectly aligned and brightly lit. We ordered some of their specialty cocktails to start, these were great. For dinner we ordered Rogan Josh (my standard for comparing Indian restaurants), Chicken Tika with Vindaloo sauce, and garlic naan. The food arrived quickly but lacked the distinctive flavors that you would expect.

The best Indian food out there, period. This place is absolutely perfect. The food, THE FOOD. It's fresh, it's delicious, it's perfectly cooked, it's PERFECT Indian food. I have explored this area top to bottom for good Indian and this place is light years ahead of any other restaurant around. The service is outstanding, the restaurant is spotless, the kitchen is in plain site and spotless. I have absolutely zero complaints. Not a single thing here needs to be improved. Even the price is a total bargain! GO. NOW.

The food is outstanding and some of the best Indian cuisine I've tasted in the area. Service is severely lacking though which was disconcerting, considering there was only one other table occupied at the time. More experienced staff would really serve this place well.
