I had been here for dinner and liked it so this not a review of the restaurant in general. I went for lunch recently, ordered the chicken salad (at something like $16) and received a plate full of greens and what appeared to be rather tasteless ground nuts hiding a few -- and I do mean few -- unappetizing and tasteless cubes of white meat chicken that resembled nothing so much as refugees from mc donalds. This restaurant is popular, offers a good dinner value with tasty meals, but fell way short for lunch. Maybe the chef out of town.

This unpretentious and charming place is subtly elegant in its decor, like the family house of a good friend somewhere in Provence. The food is superlative, yet not outrageously priced. The service is knowledgeable, sophisticated (but not stuffy) and gracious. From the moment I stepped in on a horribly rainy night and my wet things were whisked away by the welcoming maitre-d, I knew I was in excellent hands. Nothing was a disappointment here!

Latest reservation we could get on a Wednesday evening was 5:45 ... athough restaurant was virtually empty for almost an hour. Octopus appetizer was delicious. Red snapper and cavatelli entrees were very small. Nicely presented and tasty, but nothing special. Waiter was great and service was excellent.

We loved the food here but were ambivalent about being seated in the small downstairs room, which you have to walk through the kitchen to reach. On the one hand, it's the basement and not all that exciting a room, unlike the main dining room. On the other hand, it's much quieter there and the dim lighting makes it somewhat romantic. We weren't crazy about the wallpaper. If they changed that, it might just be the more romantic part of the restaurant.

I arranged to have a nice dinner with a friend and was recommended to try this place. I arrived to a bustling restaurant. We then get taken to our table...in a dungeon by the kitchen that looked like something you would find in an airport. Cheap tables and chairs...cheap decor...nothing like the upstairs. But that didn't change the price of the overpriced food there. We had chicken and lamb and a couple starters. Will admit lamb was good but that was pretty much it. They had one server in the dungeon and took ages to get anything or service. I made a reservation a week and a half in advance. I noticed they had a 2 for walk ins that wasn't offered to us either...threw us in a basement...all and all won't be returning.

Warmly decorated light-filled space on the corner of a beautifully restored 5th ave building. My dining partner had the traditional eggs benedict brunch fare which he claims were very good but I opted for the warm lamb salad which was not only unappetizing in it's visual appeal but lacking in taste. There were no asparagus in the salad as indicated on the menu, the frisée salad was limp and wilted and the lamb was shredded, resulting in an overall disappointing experience. Good choice of French Provençal wines, friendly and attentive service.

A beautiful location and decor, but the food quite disappointing. I had the "BOUILLABAISSE EN CROUTE", which for $25 really should have had more fish in the broth, especially given the size of the terrine in which it was served. The pastry topping looked impressive at first, but added nothing to the taste of the dish, and instead was too flaky, falling apart when touched, and too soggy when dunked into the soup. I felt a bit taken-advantage-of. It's really pretty inside, though, and looks lovely on the block. I hope it succeeds.

The food was delicious. Three of us shared the following: Courgette, Garlic Flatbread with Truffle Hummus, Fennel Salad, Claudette's Bouillabaise, Chicken Tangine. The food was amazing. Favorites were the Courgette and the Chicken Tangine. The salad was also good. The service is great, they let us sit at the bar for awhile and held our table for us. Our waiter was great in suggesting red wines. I will definitely be back and recommend it to many others.

Couldn't find anything French, or, really, North African in the food--except for the fancy tagine one dish was served in. Appetizer portions are much too big and entree portions too small. Not a lot of flavor in anything. We ordered the heirloom tomato special appetizer, which was tasteless and looked a mess. They threw in a few fresh anchovies too, really unpleasant combination. If your heirloom tomatoes are not totally in season, they shouldn't be a special...they shouldn't even be on the menu. The woman next to me ordered a whole fish of some sort. It smelled terrible. Our desserts were the best part. But also a bit weird/dry/uninteresting. Except for the pistachio cake which was tasty and interesting, but cloyingly sweet.

This is a lovely little moderne French bsitro in the West Village with pleasant service, a series of French doors which open onto the street, and a thoughtful menu of different salads,a fish du jour and other pleasing entres and a "sweet"dessert list, one of which was PERFECT for me: an espresso served with a few delicate cookies and a piece of caramel (how clever!); portions are certainly more French than American (THANK goodness!); crowd was hip Villagers, and certainly some gallery people......it's a great addition to MY list of small French-New York eateries! OH, and the wines by the glass, VERY creative and not a price to match: I had the most fantastic Chenin Blanc from the Loire; not like any one I have ever tasted, just great!

We were pleased when we heard a French bistro was opening in one of those spaces that have been the death of many restaurants. We were most disappointed at what we found. First, it is more Moroccan than French, and if you don't happen to like harissa you are in trouble. Perhaps 20% of the menu was at all possible for us. The service was strictly amateur and not interested. I was never in a bistro where you had to ask for bread. Food was forgettable; indeed, you wanted to forget it. Noise level was horrendous. Zero reason to go back.

I got fo the restaurant early, and was seated at the bar. Dylan the bartender blew me away. He was carismatic and knew as much about the food as he did the drinks. My friend and I chose to stay at the bar and eat in his company. The rest of the staff was equally as friendly, and made sure our dining experience was perfect. The food was also different and high quality. I recommend the charted octopus, lamb salad, and eggplant with yogurt dish. But really, you can't go wrong with anything.

We loved it; somehow as relaxed as a midtown place full of regulars while being perfectly elegant. Bright, clean, cote d'azur look. Tables adequately spaced. Cauliflower soup was superb; chicken salad with arugula and nuts perfect. Painfully good desserts. Espressos just right. We weren't drinking but the wine list looked substantial and thoughtful. The staff were reading our minds and making us feel like we came everyday. If I lived in the neighborhood, I would eat here all the time. My aunt and I have been meeting once a week at Union Square Cafe and we tried this for a change; from now on, we'll meet at Claudette.

We needed a restaurant near Washington Square and found Claudette. Delightful restaurant, especially on a beautiful sunny day when the window/doors are open to Fifth Avenue. Nice selection of wines by the glass, service was very good without being intrusive. I recommend the warm lamb salad which was excellent. Truffled hummus, excellent lamb salad, and excellent seasonal vegetable plates shine on a refreshingly spare, navigable menu.
