  • "Great bar with friendly bar staff. It stops there. Oysters?? Happy hour advertised dollar oysters . . . but NO, not if you have sat down to a table, then they're 3 each. Food -- not so much. The "house favorite," crispy artichokes are actually totally gluggy deep-fried fat bombs with no flavor and not very crispy. The trumpet mushroom salad with Piave Vecchio cheese is pretty good, but minimal Piave Vecchio. The mini-tenderloin was fine. Rhode Island fried calamari were acceptable but nowhere near what is possible at so many other bars in NYC. Service was not friendly and not offhand, not slow and not fast. Basically they're trading off their bar scene which is really nice in the evening. Don't go there for the food. DO NOT GET THE CHOKES!"

  • "Restaurant was very noisy -- could not talk to my table-mate. They should decide if they are a club or a restaurant because for the prices one does not get a "fine dining experience" or anything even close. Waiter abandoned us mid-meal and we essentially never saw him again No one offered coffee and when we tried to find a server to help us, we could not. Definitely overpriced for the service, the ambience and the food quality. I live in the neighborhood and would not return."

  • "This restaurant popped up in a space that has seen a lot of restaurants come and go, but this little gem is still there! It is located on a busy street, but by the way they have designed the restaurant (the bar is near the street and the restaurant is at the back of the location where is is a lot more quiet) they have really done well with the layout of the place! The food is great, the servers are knowledgable and friendly! If you want a great meal, not very expensive, and tasty, then this place is perfect! "

  • "I was extremely surprised (and pleased) with the lunch I had at Clarkson. The raw bar was excellent and the variety of foods available on the menu really refreshing. It also has great sides. For people who have sensitive diets (lactose/gluten etc) this is a great option as there are many choices for everyone without having to reinvent a dish. The price point is also extremely reasonable."

  • "Maybe it was just the waiter we had but they brought us 3 things we didn't order, one being an extra plate of duck, another being a salad we thought was what we ordered but ended up eating it and realizing later on the bill it wasn't, and then the 3rd an entree we didn't order. We politely told them about the 2 plates we were aware of which turned out to be for the table nearby. Then the bill came, which seemed high but it was my birthday dinner so my friends paid with a smile. However, right before we left one of them decided to check the bill and noticed that we were not only charged for the duck and entree, but ANOTHER duck plate. We notified our new waitress and she apologized and fixed it so there wasn't an issue but check your bill!"

  • "This location has had many restaurants over a short period of time and I'm afraid it's not the food they served but the location. Clarkson had great food. My soft shell crabs with pea puree was awesome, as was my friends chop. My beet salad was an ample portion and delicious. Very nice wait staff and quick service. Our food came out so fast, but it was so quiet for a Saturday night. I hope people discover it or it will be another fatal closing. Note: Clarkson are also the owners of Le Singe Vert in Chelsea."

  • "Clarkson has so many things going for it and so far, it's really coming together - nice ambience which is very different in the the three sections of the restaurant; service that becomes more professional with each visit; both traditional and more edgy well-prepared and presented food; a spectacular bar and a visible management that helps maintains standards. As for the Greenwich Village restaurant scene, the restaurant is at the corner of nowhere which is one of the reasons so many establishment have come and gone from there in a short time. We hope the Clarkson folks keep up the good work so we can continue to enjoy it and tell all our friends to do the same."

  • "My husband and I have been here twice now and have been very happy with everything! Love the food, the service is excellent and the space is really well designed. The bar is particularly pretty (and huge!) - plus the specialty cocktails are delicious and meticulously made with fresh herbs and garnishes. This is a fun place for happy hour and even better that you can stay and enjoy an excellent dinner afterward. We're adding it to our list of favorites."

I loved the well crafted cocktails and delicious oysters to start. All the dishes were flavorful and unique without being overwhelmed by sauces or too much seasoning. The room has a cool vibe and is neither too noisy nor cramped. After many attempts to establish a decent restaurant in this location, Clarkson has hit a homerun and is my favorite new place."

  • "This place is great! The food is excellent and the service is excellent. I had the duck confit and my husband had the NY Strip - both were perfect and very tasty! I ordered a glass on pinot noir to have with my main and the waiter took the time to suggest an alternate that he thought would be better with the duck. It was totally the right call and really made the meal. Plus the interior is so pretty! The decor is fabulous and the bar is a work of art. And the specialty cocktails on the menu are awesome! Inventive and yummy! I can't wait to go back!!"

  • "Second time I have been there for brunch. Food and service excellent BUT THE NOISE LEVEL FROM A MUCH TOO LOUD BAND made it IMPOSSIBLE for me and my friends to enjoy the experience. I will go back but only after calling ahead to ensure that there is no entertainment being offered. This venue does NOT lend itself to a band as the surfaces in all direction are "hard". Avoid if there is a band playing in the bar area !!!"

  • "OK, a little on the pricey side for what you get. The reason I would not recommend is that it is nothing special or unique for $30 entrees. The service was excellent though. That location is difficult, has been many different restaurants over the past 8 years. I doubt this place will survive. They should turn it into something else, like a supermarket."

Squid oversalted, crispy cauliflower was largely stems too tough to eat, and far from crispy but Nicole seasoned, the steak tartar deviled egg not the best tartar not the best of either. As a place to have a drink and a stray, great. Large and beautiful bar scaled for afterwork crowd should fill up for that alone."

The kale salad, charred octopus, scallops and poussin were all earnestly recommended but all fell far short of memorable satisfaction. Still working out the kinks but holds potential promise."
