Diner Reviews
  • "Clarklewis never disappoints. My salmon was cooked perfectly and the arugula salad with parmesan cheese was fantastic! I have been coming here 1-2 times a year since they opened and have never had a bad meal. Initially, we ordered the several courses fixed price dinner and always were impressed."

  • "The salmon was delicious, and ur server was very good. My husband asked that his salmon be cooked through and through and it was. I asked for my salmon to bea bit undercooked and it was. Very good overall."

  • "With the doors open and many trucks going by, it is hard to converse. However, the food and service were great. Would go back again."

  • "Thank you Clarklewis! I made dinner reservations online and mentioned we'd like a nice table because we were celebrating our 25th wedding ann. Our waiter came with a glass of champagne for all of us!"

  • "This location is very noisy - trains, trucks, etc., but the food combinations are unusual and tasty. Found an unusal wine to have - an Italian cabernet franc."

  • "After a hectic day and early evening, it was nice to relax at clarklewis and be served well with good food. Our friends had never been there and enjoyed it very much."

  • "The kitchen and server were overwhelmed with a modest crowd at lunch. Very slow to get food to the table. It is clearly an industrial area with trucks and trains roaring by. Not a great place for a business lunch because of all the noise."

  • "Thought we would try clarklewis for dinner, as we have the Passport Card, yet had never been! So glad we did--great steak, excellent "greens" and the card helped make it more affordable. We'd go back. For us very selective diners, that is quite a compliment."

  • "Truly exquisite food in this converted warehouse. Had the bruschetta appie & loved it. Full of flavor & sharing size. We both went for fish - one the salmon and the other the tuna - and each was prepared perfectly. Cooked to perfection, complimented with veggies and sauces/purees that added bursts of compatible flavors. (Mary Brent was on fish this night!) Were able to get a half bottle of the Cristom Pinot Noir we wanted - perfect for the two of us. Desserts were superb too - sorbet for her and carrot cake for me - best I ever had & portions that hit Cinderella Zone - Just Right. Service was impressive. A staff member heard a guest at the table near us drop a spoon and immediately arrived with a replacement - no need to ask!"

  • "What a great place to spend to lunch with parents visiting from out of town. Food was awesome and we loved the smell of the wood stove. Thank you."

  • "We have been three times before and this again was one of the best meals to be had in Portland. Great attentive service, fantastic halibut and a bottle of Italian white recommended to us which we had never had before and was fantastic. We will be back again."

  • "We have an excellent dinner, mostly due to the great food, and service. They can open one side of the restaurant to the street, and because it was a beautiful night, this added to the enjoyment. Their wood-fired oven also adds a rustic and pleasing aroma to the place!"

  • "I was on a clarklewis spurt again until the service got kinda snobby and the party of male businessmen were made exponentially more important:/ and we usually order app/entree/dessert and a nice wine so it's not like we are not a decent check. Anyways, the manager at some of these places need to understand they are in the front not in an office and a smile would be nice since you've seen me here 10x before :) Food is ok, not super creative. Needs a little more zest to some of the more bland veg soups. Pastas that include a protein such as clams/seafood need to make those ingredients sing, they often get lost. I'll take an excursion to Clarklewis a little less often. "

  • "The Chef's family style was incredibly good. When we first arrived we were hesitant to dive in as we all wanted different entree's, but when our server informed us we would be pretty much getting the entire menu we dove in. There was more than enough food and everything was really good. I had never opted for family style before, but I would definitely do it again!."

  • "We came for a Birthday dinner for 5 people. We did the "Chef's Special" for $55 per person. The amount and quality of EVERYTHING was outstanding. We all believe it is the best dining experience we have ever had! I was particularly struck by the collaborative effort of the Wait staff. We had at least 5 or 6 people serving us, giving us fresh plates and silverware, delivering our dishes the moment they were ready (we ate "family style" and had 18 different food selections), filling water glasses...... They were unobtrusive, but always there....which is a magical balance to acheive! We loved the ambiance, and the ability to be inside and outside at the same time, due to the open side of the building! All in all, a perfect evening! "

  • "I chose this place for a special occasion due to great past experiences but was disappointed this time around. The food was good but not great. The entree portions were small and left us still hungry. The main problem was with our server, who started out ok but then disappeared after our appetizers were cleared. We waited forever to get an order in for a second round of drinks. Then didn't receive them until after we finished our entrees! My dad even ate his dish really slowly so he could enjoy some of it with a glass of wine...which appeared after our plates were cleared. After dessert, the bill was slapped down on the table as if we had done something wrong! We left the place totally confused as to what had happened. Sad for Clarklewis."

  • "Second visit to Portland and second to Clark-Lewis. The restaurant is housed in an old warehouse in one of the warehouse districts east of the river. Architecturally, it is minimal and modern. The service is always spot on and we have never been sitting idly waiting. Even on this visit when the desserts were taking a little longer than normal, our service dropped them off and said that they were comped since they were taking so long. The menu changes daily and the food is always very well done and presented. Certainly worth the trip."

  • "Without question one of the best restaurants in Portland, and for the value, one of the best restaurants in all of the Pacific Northwest. Food is brilliant. Ambience is comfortable and cool. The farm to table concept was pioneered by these guys, they have taken it to a whole new level. "

  • "My wife and I went to clarklewis to celebrate her birthday and had a wonderful time. The server was great. He showed up at all the right times and let us enjoy our evening. The only downside was that the restaurant was overly loud (open windows to street + overhead music + close tables) and my wife and I felt like we were yelling to each other even sitting adjacent to each other and not across the table. Overall our experience was great and would definitely recommend this restaurant!"

  • "The food was great. Wine overpriced, but helpful staff helped us pick the right bottle. But the room was opened up on both sides and is made largely of concrete; consequently, between the traffic, the train, the loud music and raucous diners, the noise level was exhausting. And this was a Wednesday! In addition, there were tiny white things floating in the air -- dust from the nearby industrial yard? bugs? blown seeds or other plant material? some of each? I would go back, but with earplugs, and plan to learn ESL first."

  • "We sat down on time, with a reservation. T'was the last time service was acceptable. It took several minutes to get water, longer to get our beverage order taken. Then 15 more minutes for beverages to arrive, 5 more minutes before we could order. By then, we'd been there 25-30 minutes. It was an hour and a half from our being seated before the food actually arrived. They apologized and said a large group in the private dining room was causing delays. If that room was reserved for a special group, the restaurant knew about it in advance and should have increased staff for the evening or told us when we made our reservation that they would be unable to promise reasonable service. A plate of free cookies didn't make up for this!"

  • "Simply put, we enjoyed everything about our dinner at Clarklewis, the drinks, the food and our waiter who was both entertaining, attentive and knowledgeable. We shared 2 starters and a risotto entree. All were tasty, interesting and unique. Will definitely be back again and again!!"

  • "I had the salmon which was cooked perfectly! We really enjoyed the lamb dish as well as the prawn pasta dish. We were not blown away by the other pasta dish we ordered... I believe it had Copa in it? I absolutely love the decor and ambience of ClarkLewis. I can't wait to sit in the open area facing the street! I believe our server's name was Ellis. She was great!"

  • "A recent outing of three ladies saw us selecting Salmon, Halibut and Pork. All three were wonderfully prepared, but when the picky lady that ordered pork was less than pleased, Steve insisted on having something else prepared for her. (I finished her pork and thought it was very good). She was pleased with the Risotto dish that was offered as a replacement. This in itself was caring service but Steve went beyond that and refused to bill us for either of her selections. "

  • "I went to ClarkLewis before I went to prom which was in Portland. It was a great experience and it was delicious! The prices were just about right for fancy and delicious food. I would definitely recommend ClarkLewis to a friend! "

  • "I took a business client from out of town to clarklewis on a Weds. evening. We did have quite a time finding a place to park but the trouble was well worth it once we were seated in the restaurant. It was a warm evening and the glass doors were rolled up. Not a very scenic view but the neighborhood has a lot of characture. My client was impressed with the frindly and attentive wait staff. The starters, the wine and the entries were all outstanding. I had the salmon and my client had the halibut. Both were simply grilled preparations over seasonal vegetables. Very nice. "

  • "We went on a Monday, there was plenty of parking and seating available (we'd booked to make sure of a table), a very young clientele. Service was reasonable, courteous and efficient. Relaxed atmosphere. The entree portions were huge, so we stuck to appetisers and soup. Salad, soup and pasta ok but nothing to write home about. My salmon brochette was a single slice of french loaf, rather than the ¼ baguette I'm used to and so salty it really got to me, although I did finish it. Good presentation and not too much of the "one ingredient too many". Wine list was good with several by the glass options. Very expensive for what it was. If we go again, we'll probably share an entrée and see how that goes."

  • "This was my first visit and the food was wonderful, nice ambience too. The parking is terrible and it took me 15 min. to find a spot which was NOT good. They should offer valet parking or access to one of the lots close by."

  • "We chose Clark Lewis for mother's day (Saturday night) based on reviews and because we ate at CL a few years ago. Our family flew in for mother's day weekend from Calif. and we were very excited to have them experience Clark Lewis. We were a party of five and EVERY main dish had faults. The lamb was so chewy that two of our guests couldn't cut the meat. My brother had pork w/potatoes and the potatoes were dry. My sister & I ordered halibut w/pasta and we had to send it back once because it was so dry. It was basically pasta w/tomato sauce with halibut; nothing interesting and could do better at home. We ended up leaving our left overs at a homeless camp on the way back to condos at the south waterfront towers. "
