A word from CityZen
Eric Ziebold was voted in Food & Wine magazine as one of ‘America’s Best New Chef’s’ and the restaurant one of the ‘Hottest Restaurants in the World’. On arrival, relax in the restaurant’s lounge and choose from a signature martini or champagne cocktail. The restaurant’s 20-foot high ceiling offers you a better view of the activity in the open kitchen, while the style and décor still provide an intimate setting. Eric’s menu changes monthly depending on the availability of the freshest ingredients. He and his team create multi-course tasting menus while our expert Sommelier advises on wine selections from the award winning wine list.

Located at the sophisticated Mandarin Oriental, CityZen creates the ideal atmosphere to celebrate, congratulate or just indulge in the fine culinary journey.

Disappointing for the expense. We felt we were placed in the "back room" verses the main dining room. Good view of the kitchen...great wine wall, but lacked the atmosphere of the rest of the restaurant. You expect the best and the food was just good. Presentation was nice, but the dishes were a bit bland. Service was good, however, we felt we were interupted too often to enjoy our own conversation.

excellent food, nice tasting menu. Not all tables have best positing to enjoy the space. I would suggest only reserving a table, no booth or banquet. Slow scene around 7-9, picks up significantly around 9, place is packed. it says no jeans but of course use your judgement, jeans were fine as long as they were nice.

Service, service, service. The food at this restaurant was paired well with the fantastic service provided. As a single, the quality of an establishment can be measured many times by the attention paid to a single diner and this one more than passed the test.

I had the tasting menu and thought the appetizers (foie gras w/ tempura pickles & maui pineapple; scallop) were especially amazing. The service was also outstanding. We went there to celebrate our anniversary -- and they presented us with two mini-flutes of champagne and an anniversary card signed by the staff, including Eric Ziebold. I thought that was such a nice touch.

CityZen was an incredible "zen" experience. I had the triggerfish with a mussel bouillabase and my husband had turbot and both were cooked to perfection. A cheesecake sorbet with graham cracker crumbs was brought out to cleanse the palate and that was a tease for our fabulous dessert. We finished off our meals with the "brownie sundae" for the true chocolate and ice cream lover and coconut bread pudding. The service was attentive and friendly. The meal was at a quick pace but we did not feel rushed in any way. We had some time to go for a walk while it was still light outside to work off the some of those hundreds of calories we had just eaten. I highly recommend this restaurant for the ultimate dining experience.

The food was delightful and the presentation was excellent. There weren't as many choices for seafood dishes as I would have preferred but the ones they had were excellent. The ambiance is very chic and trendy. Though jacket not required, most men actually did wear a jacket which makes it appear more upscale. I will definitely return to this restaurant on my next visit to D.C.

We celebrated our 41st wedding anniversary there. Could not have been better. The food and wine were of course outstanding, but what really made the difference was the service. In addition to a complementary glass of dessert wine, we even received a card signed by the staff congratulating us on our anniversary. A memorable evening in all respects. Each of our four visits has been an outstanding experience. The tasting menu is especially memorable. The menu makes selection difficult. The food, preparation and presentation are excellent. Unlike many restaurants, the entire party does not need to order the tasting menu. Considering the tasting menu, this is a very valuable feature (to those who want to order the tasting menu).

We were in town for The Inn at Little Washington's 30th anniversary gala and had dinner at CityZen the night before. Everything was great, but they ran out of one of the appetizers we ordered. The server knew they only had one left at the most by the time we were seated. It would have been nice to have been informed of this when we were handed our menus so we could have ordered the item right away, or at least not had our hearts set on it only to find out it was unavailable. Everything else was fantastic. Food was amazing. Sommelier was very knowledgeable and very helpful.

My wife and I were celebrating our first wedding anniversary. The service was extraordinary, the food fabulous, the experience unparalleled. The waitstaff was knowledgeable and always there when needed. I had read quite a few reviews prior to coming for our dinner, so there was a great expectation that the bar had been set very high. It was a profound pleasure to learn that the restaurant was all that the reviews had promised, and more. We look forward to dining at CityZen again upon our return to Washington. We liked CityZen, and the quality of the food was exceptional. In terms of the ambiance, it depends on what you're looking for. The restaurant is situated in a large, open area - making for sound to carry a good deal, and for a loud setting. The service was good, in a very polished, polite (but not too warm) manner. So overall, we thought the restaurant would be best suited for more of a business or casual date setting, not necessarily an intimate occasion. Bottom line, we liked CityZen a lot, but it just depends on what you expect your total dining experience to be like.

The food was very good. Unfortunately, the waitress decided to argue with me for several minutes about how I wanted a particular protein cooked. I do not eat rare or raw food. I told the waitress that I understood that the texture of the food would change, however she persisted in arguing with me about it. The exchanged ruined an otherwise very nice evening. The experience with the waitress has kept me from going back and not recommending the restaurant to others.

Everything was perfect. Servings for the three-course meal were more generous than what I would have expected of a restaurant of this calibre. I had mentioned on my reservation that we were celebrating an anniversary and CityZen comped us with sparkling wine at dessert time to celebrate. It was a VERY nice, and unexpected touch. Also, I couldn't eat all the mini (one-bite) desserts presented at the end of the meal and asked to take them home. The waiter gave us "extras" so we both could have another taste of each of the three bites. We would definitely recommend and return to CityZen.

I believe that you have to factor in what went into the preparation of dish in evaluating what you are eating or why it's so "terrific" could get by you. If you know what it's like to put hours into creating a sauce that is truly the essence of herb then you're going to feel duly impressed. Otherwise, I believe you will not necessarily be wowed by your meal.

However, be prepared, because the tasting menu is absolutely delicious but can wreak havoc on your stomach if you eat every fantastic bite as voraciously as I did.
