A word from City Winery - Napa Valley Opera House
A word from City Winery at the Napa Valley Opera
City Winery is the third of its kind, but a unique homage to wine country, all while indulging the senses: tap wine from 30 local winery partners, a top-notch music venue, a full-service restaurant, and private event space in the heart of Downtown Napa in the historic Opera House.
The wines are exceptional: Our tap partners have supplied us with some of the most unique wines in the valley – many are one-time only barrels you won’t find anywhere else. And there is a 400+ bottle list to boot!
The dinner menu features Mediterranean-inspired, locally sourced small plates designed to complement the extensive wine list. Burrata, Arancini, Flatbreads, Carpaccio and hearty meat dishes are varied enough to please a diverse crowd over a few rounds of wine. With the evening’s concert serenading you through your meal, dinner at City Winery means there’s always something fun to experience.

Best Restaurants in Napa
the restaurant was completely
empty when we arrived for our meal. service was still only OK. had to flag someone down to get out bill. food was OK but not notable. at least not pricey. we would not go back."

I realize that they are new.
However, they have to get their act together. How do you overcook a hamburger? Also, cold & greasy zuccini fries. This is not a "late-night find," but cannot submit form without checking off t least one in #2. How about, none of the above?"
Dined on 7/13/2014
Had dinner before seeing a film at
the conservatory. Don't know Napa downtown well. This was a very good choice for us. Our waiter was attentive and friendly, but not overbearing. The food was delicious, and the prices seem very competitive with other restaurants in the area. We'd recommend the City Winery to anyone."
Dined on 7/12/2014
We chose to eat downstairs prior
to the performance and this was very nice. Great wine list, however, the carafe of red wine was served to cold. Food and menu very nice. I would not recommend eating upstairs in the theater area before/during the performance. The area is overcrowded with small tables/uncomfortable chairs with no room to enjoy the meal and/or performance. Also, serving during the performance just added to the lack of atmosphere. This is not a supper club. Given the current setup, I would not return to this venue."

This is my third visit to City
Winery and each has been delightful. I highly recommend this restaurant. And to my surprise our wait person told us the local's 25% discount has been extended."
Dined on 7/11/2014
We made a reservation prior to a
show. Our hostess discouraged us from sitting down as they couldn't guarantee we'd make the show-the place was almost empty! Once seated, we had some questions. We asked about the portion size on an appetizer and whether it could serve as a meal with another appetizer. She said it was "huge." When asked for wine suggestion, she said she wasn't quite up to speed on the wines yet (at a restaurant called City Winery). Tomato stack was 2 mushy tomato slices. Fried zucchini greasy. Main course was rushed. Farmed salmon with hodge podge of flavors. So rushed, we ended up with a half hour to spare and went for walk (the best part of the meal). There are much better places to eat in Napa. Cannot recommend."

Extremely attentive before, during
and after the show."
Dined on 7/10/2014
Attending a musical concert, we
went early for dinner. We sat upstairs in the theater area. Since it is somewhat club like, the tables are very close together. I could smell the cologne of the man at the next table. We had risotto balls which were dry and a flat bread which was more like a pizza. It was fine but not a flatbread. We all had burgers of various types which were juicy and did taste good. Service was fair, we got our food in a reasonable time with no errors but there was no connecting at all with our waiter. It was very unremarkable in a city with amazing food options."

I had a friend in town as her
husband was performing at the City Winery. As I have wanted to dine here since opening, this was the perfect excuse to try the restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience, food was fresh & tasty, beautiful presentations, and the server was very attentive. Most of us had the seafood special which was local sea bass. Excellent! Napa needed this Dine & Theatre option. I'm sure City Winery is here to stay."
Dined on 7/5/2014
the food choices are good for
sharing, lots of appetizers, nice wines, downstairs more comfortable than upstairs seats"

Very impressed with the on draft wines."

On an event night, everything goes
to hell. We arrived around 6:20. I ordered the soup of the day which came out when expected. Our friends ordered a salad, flatbread and 2 orders of salmon. My husband & I ordered flatbreads 4 our main course. Their salad arrived about 20 min after I finished my soup. About 30 min later my husbands flatbread arrived. 10 min after that only one of the salmon dishes arrived. My flatbread and my friends was no where in sight. They canceled their flatbread order, but I was don't cancel mine as I was still hungry after sharing my soup with everyone. My flatbread finally arrived as the opening act was starting upstairs. We missed most of her act. Our drink orders were as screwed as our food orders."
Dined on 6/21/2014
Eat down stairs before the concert
. Upstairs seating is set for 4 and crowded. The staff was perfect. Flatbread ,pizza style, was very good. I had a Chardonnay Blonde Ale and it was very good. The wine is extensive but all expensive. Can be noise if busy. Room can be cool bring a wrap."
Dined on 6/20/2014
With all of the many wines on tap,
it was baffling why our food came to the table first. The food was adequate but nothing special."
Dined on 6/20/2014
When going to the NVOH we've
enjoyed the restaurant prior to moving into the uncomfortable seating at the new NVOH..."
Dined on 6/17/2014
First of all, the upstairs is a
music venue which is why we were there. We had dinner before the show and sat outside which was fairly quiet and the evening was lovely. Inside seemed very noisy and boisterous, and it would have been difficult to carry on a conversation. While the food was very good (we shared a salad and a flatbread), it seemed quite pricey for what it was and the wine prices were ridiculously high. Come on! This is the Napa Valley where wine is abundant, and a glass of 'house' wine does not need to cost way over $10. There are too many choices in the Napa area with great food and better prices. Therefore, I do not believe I'll return here - at least not for dinner."
Dined on 6/14/2014
My new favorite place in Napa.
With 33 wines on tap to choose from, it was a bit daunting, but after a few half carafes, not an issue. We had a nice sampling of the menu shared between the four of us. We particularly liked the Tuna Tartar and the flatbread pizzas. The staff was friendly and attentive. The full bar looked incredible and I have never heard of some of the bourbons and ryes they had available."
Dined on 6/10/2014
Host & staff very welcoming.
Decor lacked coziness. Design interesting, well executed, but dark. Space literally chilly-we (and others) asked for AC to be turned down. Food so-so, especially for price (i.e. mostly lettuce salads @ over $11). CW prides itself on some 30 wines on tap; least expensive $10, and only 1 at that price. Modest pour. Wines by bottle unbelievably expensive--only one @ $30--even up to $1000. Really! Beer on tap @ $6.. My husband returned his as "off". A beer he was very familiar with. CW might want to reconsider its prices."

My friend and I dined at City
Winery before seeing Tristan Prettyman play a show upstairs there. I liked everything about the dining area. It was classy looking, comfortable, the wait staff were very helpful and accommodating, but the real star was the food. We got the flatbread special of the day which was the best flatbread I've ever had anywhere. It was a great start. My friend got the chicken which she pretty much inhaled and I got the tuna tartare appetizer for dinner which was good, if a little simple. The dessert was FABULOUS, we split the olive oil cake dessert and were both surprised at how much we loved it. I seriously thought my friend was going to lick the plate. I am looking forward to going back :)"
Dined on 6/6/2014
It took 30 minutes to get a waiter
to take our order. The server dropped a taco in the lap of my dining guest and my hamburger was undercooked. I am not sure I will be back"
Dined on 5/30/2014
We asked the waiter if we could
substitute busy zucchini fries with potato fingers. He said yes. The order came and we had zucchini fries they took the zucchini away. I waiter disappeared. I had to call to another waiter because we need to catch up for the burger he brought the catchup right away and lots of it thank you. Still no waiter. A waitress came by and we asked for the potatoes she said she'd look into it. The waiter that brought the catchup asked if there was anything we needed and we said yes our potatoes and he looked into it. We finished eating when the potatoes came. The only time we saw our waiter was to get the check. "

We thought we would try the
restaurant on a night out. We were very impressed with the renovation of the opera house. It is much more relevant to what people want on a night out. The food was amazing and the service was prompt and friendly. Great ambiance in the restaurant with a great former Tarla bartender staffing the spacious bar. (Pleasant surprise)Although there was not a show that night, I got a quick tour of the upstairs theatre. Having walked all around it, there is not a bad seat anywhere. We immediately booked tickets for a dinner concert. Nice job City Winery! "
Dined on 5/29/2014
We were seated after about a 5-7
minute wait, the noise level was pretty loud and the server didn't seem to be too confident of her role. We had to ask for the check and then it took her over 25 minutes to return for it and we grew impatient waiting and took the check to the hostess to handle. Overall the food was amazing so it was a negative experience ONLY due to the lack of service. The 50% off for locals did help when paying. "
Dined on 5/28/2014
Food was quite good. The service
providers accommodated us so we had the first course in the downstairs dining area, the second was served at the theater venue upstairs. Wine was excellent."
Dined on 5/27/2014
We are locals and are happy with
the remodeled space. It is really beautiful inside the main dining room. Bar is vibrant. Wines by the glass are arguably the best wines by the glass you are likely to find anywhere in California- period. All are special small lots custom-kegged for the City Winery's wine taps. And Bar Manager Jim is a Napa legend. One of the best in the business. The food is very good. Surprisingly good in fact. Little Gem salad absolutely delicious. Mushroom flatbread, perfectly prepared, and thankfully not overly salty - unlike the other pizza bistro down the street. Burger was good, but needs more oomph somehow. Service was excellent. We'll be back. All in all, we are delighted to welcome the new City Winery to Napa."

Newly remodeled Napa Valley Opera
House has been transformed into a fine dinning and world class intertainment venue. A reasonable priced night out under one roof. A massive wine list, extremely well prepared dishes, and very tasty. We highly recommend you give this restaurant and music venue a try."
Dined on 5/23/2014
It was nice to see such a change
in the decor of the resturant . It helped to make the dining experience more exciting. The service was great. The food was good with reasonable portions of every thing but the vegetables . For some reason they skimped on them. I would try this place again, however."
Dined on 5/23/2014
We were impressed with the food.
It was delicious The woman who seated us seemed a little unsure when we asked for a quieter table which we did get.The service was good but rushed. We felt sorry for the seemingly overworked young man who waited on us. It looked as if he had the entire dining area to serve. The noise was a little much. But all that said I will return and see if an ease has been established."
Dined on 5/22/2014
Since my husband hadn't been to
the City Winery before, we decided to have lunch there on our anniversary. I had been there with a large group a couple of weeks before. We had the same waiter and the service was still slow. I'm not sure if it was is or the kitchen's fault. Since we only had salads, we weren't sure what the holdup was. The food was delicious! At the locals 50% off price for the month of May, it was a good value. Couldn't really "complain" since we were getting such a good deal. But if I was in a hurry, I wouldn't go there for lunch/dinner."
Dined on 5/21/2014
The staff and experience at City
Winery is second to none. Live this experience. "
Dined on 5/18/2014
I had an appetizer at the bar a
week ago and it was terrific-- Tuna Tartar with Taro Chips. Then had lunch a week later and it was awesome--Kale Caesar and a plate of the most fabulous halibut. Wine was delicious and reasonably priced at $10. Keep up the good work!"
Dined on 5/16/2014
We came up from the Peninsula for
a concert and ate dinner there first. Food was very good. But what made it a great experience was our server, Wayne. He was friendly, professional, knowledgable, warm, and gracious. Had nothing else there been good, we still would come back because of him."
Dined on 5/15/2014
The wine bar is nice and the food
is good but the service is beyond slow. Sat for more than 30 minutes with no food. They forgot the starters and finally brought them when asked, with the meal. Venue upstairs is crowded and uncomfortable. So crowded that they cannot serve during a performance and the chairs are worse than sitting on concrete. Will not be going back."
Dined on 5/13/2014
We came for dinner on Mother's Day
and really enjoyed the restaurant. The service was top notch and the food was very good. We will definitely be back!"
Dined on 5/11/2014
I ordered a center cut ribeye
steak, rare for $32. I got a piece of meat about 1/2 inch think and barely bigger than your palm, medium well. The plating looked like a diet TV dinner. Enough said."
Dined on 5/11/2014
Very very limited menu. New York
Steak was thin, fatty and drowning in butter. Flat Iron Steak was only average. Garnishes and vege's were lame. Service was unprofessional but they should be able to fix in time. Fixed it after a rocky start. Wines by the glass priced high. Selection was great and bottle prices were good. Was expecting some good music playing in background. Heard nothing. If this restaurant is going to succeed in a hyper competitive market...it has a long long way to go. We shall see.....Skip it for now and try back in three months. They have a lot of work to do."
Dined on 5/3/2014
Was pleasantly surprised at how
creative and de-lish everything was, especially since the menu seemed a little limited at first read. Wow rating for the duck tacos, can't go wrong with them for a starter. Interesting, diverse and extensive wine list and they are all on tap, so no need for a bottle that might not pair well with someone's food selection. A small minus: Only one entree was suitable for the vegetarian in our party. Since it was appealing (and thoroughly enjoyed), the kitchen was not asked to prepare anything off-menu, but the staff aims to please so they might have been fine about it. Suggest calling ahead if you have special dietary needs. Very good food, very attentive staff, very attractive space. Isn't Napa lucky! "
Dined on 5/2/2014
Portions seem rather small and
food was somewhat bland in taste."
Dined on 5/2/2014
I have been to City Winery at Napa
Opera House twice, a new establishment in a 19th century building. The downstairs is now a handsome but extremely noisy restaurant. The staff, while helpful, couldn't answer questions about the menu. The farm-raised chicken was very good and exceeded expectations. The theater upstairs is cabaret style with small tables for four. You can order food there, tool. You are facing people on the other side of your table rather than the stage and sight lines can be blocked. Chairs are small, hard, and unpadded. Sitting on them for two or three hours is quite uncomfortable. You may want to bring a cushion. Wait staff upstairs were extremely quiet and efficient. . Wine prices seemed somewhat high. "
