A word from City Winery - Chicago
City Winery is the second of its kind, following the New York City flagship’s model: It’s a functioning winery, a top-notch music venue, and a full-service restaurant, all housed in a massive 33,000-square-foot facility in the West Loop.

The wines are exceptional: Grapes are imported from renowned regions around the country, then crushed and aged on site. Wines are poured by the glass or bottle, with many available on tap.

The dinner menu features Mediterranean-inspired small plates designed to complement the extensive wine list. Burrata, Arancini, Flatbreads, Sliders and hearty meat dishes are varied enough to please a diverse crowd over a few rounds of wine. Servers are happy to point you toward their favorite bites and paired wines, and with the evening’s concert displayed on flatscreens and projected at a comfortable volume, dinner at City Winery means there’s always something fun to experience.

  • "Friend and I ordered the Pinot noir from the tap and it was pretty good. For our shares plates was the scallops and a mushroom goat cheese flatbread which were both delicious. Unfortunately, the service was less to be desired. After the staff let us taste some wines and gave us our carafe, a server came. He was pretty irritated that they had him work by himself outside and apologized for the wait. He checked on us one more time and that was it. I understand he was busy and there were at least 2-3 large groups that Friday night, but he should have definitely received some help. We had to flag someone else down after waiting more than 30 min for him to at least look in our direction for the check. Neglectful service"

  • "We LOVED the Halibut and the Skirt Steak-both were exquisite and very unique recipes. I couldn't give it five stars because we were totally unimpressed with the calamari. I don't want to speak badly of it excessively, because the wine, food, ambiance, and service were all so great. we absolutely loved this place, but I did tell the server how disappointing the calamari was!"

  • "We have become regulars for the music. They have some great artists and we love the small venue. We've entertained friends with dinner and a show and spent many "date nights" there. Just saw David Crosby preform his latest CD and it was amazing!"

  • "Food was good to very good, but not outstanding. Small plates so would work well with a group, although the menu choices are somewhat limited. There were some odd combinations- calamari in a spicy tomato sauce which overpowered the calamari. Very good mushroom and goat cheese flatbread. Scallops were ok. My favorite was crusted halibut on a coconut rice. Avoid the gelato- it was icy- kind of like eating freezer-burned store-bought ice cream, did not resemble gelato at all. Service was very good. We were there late night, so it was quiet, but I imagine it would be quite loud during a normal time. They have barrel wines which they sell by the carafe. Again, they are good to very good but not outstanding and seemed overpriced."

  • "A fun evening and friendly attentive servers. Big place but you do not get lost. Would definitely go back and it is a quick walk from the El."

  • "Beautiful patio There was a wedding there the evening we were there Good wine list but there could be more food selections our group had shellfish allergies and no pork restrictions"

  • "We were celebrating a birthday for a close of mines. The food was very delicious and the extensive wine list was impeccable. Our waiter, Rose was very knowledgable and very attentative. I would recommend this restaurant to all of my friends."

  • "We loved everything about our experience except the service. It seemed as though our server was the only one responsible for the entire large patio. Not even the manager was helpful. Food and drink were delicious, and we would have ordered more if everything didn't take so long. We could barely put our order! Very disappointing."

  • "Not being a wine drinker, I wasn't sure this place would do amazing things for me, but upon entering, I quickly changed my mind. The ambiance was great and we were sat right away. Our server was knowledgable and helped us navigate which tapas to dive into. Highly recommend the street corn."

  • "City Winery is a wonderful date night spot. The food is wonderful (try the fried green tomatoes with shrimp...amazing). The wine is great. Servers are very knowledgeable. If you can, see a show at the venue located in the restaurant. Only negative is that the servers disappear for a good deal of time after you order. Usually fine, but not when it takes 15 minutes to find someone to get the check and then another 8 minutes to pay. But that's the only negative. Amazing food and ambience."

  • "My husband and I came for date night and had a great time sitting outside! The outdoor space was huge and really pretty. We really enjoyed the appetizers (street corn and burratta) but didn't really like the mushroom flatbread. Mushroom was ALL we tasted! The house made wines were great, but the server wasn't too helpful in recommending a specific wine. We have been here before and had great service, so maybe it was her off day. I would still recommend this to anyone who wants to celebrate a special occasion or is looking for a nice place to take a date!"

  • "This was our fourth visit to City Winery. The concert venue and musical artists have been consistently top notch. In prior visits to the dining room the food has been good and the service attentive. However, on our last visit to the dining room the service was simply awful -- slow, inattentive and generally unhelpful. Two of the main dishes we ordered never arrived at all and the service on the others was so slow and inattentive that we missed the beginning of the show even though we had left ourselves an hour and a half for dinner. To be fair, the manager was extremely apologetic and paid for a round of drinks at dinner and the show, which was excellent as usual."

  • "Overall, we had a very nice brunch experience at City Winery after purchasing the TravelZoo voucher. They offered us a table inside, letting us know upfront that they did not have any tables that were shaded and it was a pretty sunny/humid afternoon. We opted for the patio anyway and ordered a growler of white wine, two entrees and two sides. The sides of toast and sausage were very good. The Lump Crab Cake was rich and delicious. The entrée of a chorizo, potato and cheese frittata was essentially a thin omelet with a tiny bit of cheese. Mine didn't seem to have any chorizo or potato? Other than that, the menu is small, but covers a lot of ground. I would definitely go back - especially to check out the evening scene and refill my growler."

  • "My husband and I went for brunch on Saturday morning and were immediately shown to a nice table on the patio. A helpful busboy brought water then . . . . nothing. We sat for 30 minutes without anyone so much as glancing in our direction. No one even walked by to flag down. We left and stopped at the host stand to pick up the Travelzoo deal we had left with them and while the host was nice, the woman behind him was not helpful. She told us we could keep the voucher to use for the value already paid (duh) but we have not interest in ever returning."

  • "Unfortunately our experience did not impress. Waiter was rarely around - had to ask various other staff for water more than once on a hot night, and food was underwhelming at best. Thankfully it was a beautiful night to sit outside."

  • "From the moment my wife and I walked in the restaurant, everyone from the hostess to the bus boys were attentive to our needs. The waiter even brought over the sommelier to explain a wine thst I never heard of and had him explain the wine."

  • "We had a group of 12 and we had a Coupon. Usually when you have a coupon the service is lacking, but our server was excellent. Informative and attentive. Great food, great wine. Best GNO in a long time."

  • "Got seated inside since long wait for outside. Had I known that server had all the tables inside and out and no time to really serve us I would have waited for outside seating. Then food too a long time because manager helping waiter forgot to put our order into the kitchen. Request for ketchup went unfulfilled until we begged an annoyed food runner to provide some. Love this venue for music but they were totally unprepared for their Travelzoo voucher to be redeemed."

  • "I thought the outside of the place was impressive and the inside just as much. I love all the art work and the concert space is pretty awesome. The food, I thought was over priced and not many choices. The wine selection and just the drink list was very impressive as well. I love the outdoor patio, I thought it was a very cool space."

  • "This was our first time to come to the City Winery- it was a gift. The service was great and the patio seating was so nice on a lovely day. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful and our food was fantastic!! Loved the crab. We looked around inside after lunch and it looks like a very nice venue for big groups or a music night out. I would definitely like to go back. And I would highly recommend. My only negative would be that the brunch menu is very limited, though it certainly had some interesting choices."

  • "When we were first seated at an outdoor table, it was 15 minutes before we were able to flag down someone (not our waiter) to bring us water. When our waiter came over several minutes later, we placed an order for wine, which took another 15 minutes to come and we were not offered to give a food order. We then requested to move inside, where our server was great and made up for the horrible outdoor service."

  • "Last minute plans with a friend and we were able to get a table no problem. Even arrived a half hour earlier than reservation and were seated right away. Very knowledgeable server. We dined on Haricot Verts, Charcuterie, Risotto balls. Risotto balls were somewhat bland and some without rice."

  • "We went for my birthday dinner and I was excited. I knew people that had been to the New York City winery and raved about it. When our waiter finally realized we were seated in his section he came over and was the most timid person I'd ever met. He couldn't describe the menu without his hands shaking and didn't know the daily specials. When the food finally came out, it was marginal at best and wasn't spaced well so we ended up with too many plated trying to be crammed on our small table. The space for the restaurant is great but just not enough. "

  • "We went here on a Saturday evening, not too many people and it just lacked any type of good vibes. We wanted to try their wine, so we tried the Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc, they were ok. We also had a few small plates such as the duck tacos, chicken meatballs, a cheese platter w/honey and a few slices of bread, the potatoes and the calamari. The chicken meatballs were good, along with the cheese platter(needed more bread) and the duck tacos were ok. However, the calamari dish was not good for us and we all love calamari, the potatoes left a lot to be desired and we love potatoes. I also felt like we were being rushed because our server was maybe done for the evening. I would not go back...too many AMAZING places in this city."

  • "Come here for Wine - Yes. However, if you are hungry and are looking for a decent meal, this is not your spot. While the small plates are good, the food selection is small. City Winery is great if you are looking for a after work gathering, before heading out to dinner or a spot to chill after dinner. "

  • "We selected City Winery based on its location near Alhambra for a dinner+dancing date. Discovered The City Winery is more than just a nice place to eat, but a bustling entertainment venue for both music and a nice dinner, all under one roof in the West Loop. The food on small plates is delicious and inventive and the wines & beer are 'on tap' or by the glass & bottle. The on tap wines were pricey for 500ml but very tasty--and tastes are abundantly offered. I would go back and take a crowd, then attend a performance, ...then dance. Its all right there!"

  • "For a long time, I have been meaning to try this place and am so glad I finally did. It is a great open space with plenty of seating. Plus with the many wine choices and small plates it pleases everyone in the group whether they are super hungry or just looking for a snack or a smaller group that wants to share. For what I thought was just a wine bar the food was very good and went well beyond cheese and charcuterie plates. We had the skirt steak, the parmesan corn, risotto balls, the hummus trio platter, and the calamari and it was all great. Will definitely be back."

  • "The table reserved was literally at the entrance of the main dining area. I asked to be sat at a cozier table by the tap area and the host gladly made the request. We were seated within 5-10 minutes. Our waitress was just ok. We asked her what wine and food pairings she recommended and basically her answer was...I drink wine with any type of food. not the answer we were looking for at a winery. She recommended a wine after all and then told us they were out of it. She did admit she worked part time at a spa and hadn't caught up to speed on the menu & what was available. Other than her mediocre service we enjoyed our wine and food pairings. The place was a bit dark which was fine but the music was a bit loud at times. Not sure I'll return"
