Diner Reviews
  • "The service was great. Very friendly and helpful staff. The orders for our small group came quickly, and all were delicious. Great spot for lunch. In-and-out in less than an hour."

  • "We went as a large group wanting a fun Tuesday night and it was perfect!"

  • "Came here on a Sunday morning after a long Saturday night. They immediately plied me with coffee (thankfully). The brunch was the perfect fix for my hangover blues; the Big Chick was enough food for two meals, and the cheese grits tasted just like home. Mid-way through our lunch, the General Manager came to our table. He was friendly and excited to hear that we discovered the place through Yelp. So excited, in fact, that he gave us a molten chocolate cake on the house. Needless to say, I'll be bringing my hungover self here again really soon."

  • "good service, nice beer selection, outdoor seating, good menu (better than regular tap house menu), and in our neighborhood."

  • "Found this place on the internet so thought we would try it out during our vacation to DC. Food was excellent and service was friendly and very prompt. It was moderately busy when we went around 6. We had made reservations. Leaving it looked like a very hot spot for happy hour but was not loud in the restaurant area. Highly recommend."

  • "Options were limited for a Sunday night late meal but the food was good. Service (considering how slow it was inside) was subpar and if your aren't a beer drinker you may as well drink water. Soda and lemonade were terrible. The venue seemed like it would be cool for sports viewing but the prices for what you get may deter me from visiting again."

  • "Had a group of about 9 of us for an early afternoon brunch. They sat us at the chef's table, which was a very nice touch. It was also nice to have the general manager come by and greet us and give us free cornbread! I had the biscuits and gravy which were very good - and a nice size portion. Most of the table got the $18 bottomless drinks and the waiter did a good job keeping glasses full. Try the beermosa!"

  • "This was our first visit to your restaurant. From the time we entered the front door, with a VERY warm and pleasant greeting, to the moment we left the restaurant, it was superb! Our experience was so gratifying that we are planning to return this Sunday, July 13th for another visit. We live a distance away, but it is well worth the drive!"

  • "We had some friends in from Seattle and thought we would try City Tap House. The food and bottomless beverages were delicious! A diverse environment in that it is ideal for watching a game or having a great meal. Jordan, our server was very attentive and extremely personable. Hats off to the GM, Pearson Keyes, who was touching every table, seemed genuinely appreciative of the business, and being very customer focused. We will most definitely return!"

  • "Good upscale bar food and a nice beer list, though it was all a bit on the pricey side."

  • "I came here to celebrate my 24th birthday with a big group of friends. I was hesitant because I wanted to do something a little more fancy than a tap house for my special day. I work in the hospitality industry and was absolutely blown away when the hostess actually smiled and was friendly and not stressed or overwhelmed with a party of 10. She took us right away and sat us at a nice large table. The ambiance was cool yet casual…just what I was looking for. Our server, Peter, was fantastic and knowledgable on menu items and beer list. We ordered a bottle of prosecco and the general manager personally came over to wish me a happy birthday and brought us a complimentary bottle of prosecco. Overall amazing experience from start tofinish"

  • "If you like your water with some barley, hops, and yeast added, this is the place for you. Great beer selection and the food is quite good."

  • "Our group of 7 met at City Tap House for lunch. We were seated promptly and service was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was not crowded, so noise was not a big issue, except when one of the teams playing in the World Cup of Soccer scored. The menu was a bit short on salads of interest, but the sandwich selection was good and most of the group ordered sandwiches. No complaints. The Tap House was a suitable place to gather and we enjoyed the outing."

  • "We went here for brunch on Father's Day. Our server was very nice. I ordered the Steak and Eggs, but the Steak was too chewy and hard to cut the first time and it was more rare than what I ordered (medium rare) so I asked to get a new one it the second time around was a little better. The Texas Eggs Benedict was pretty good, my dad ordered that. And the Strawberry Almond Shortcake was DELICIOUS! My fav."

  • "My husband and I attended to celebrate his birthday. This was our second dining experience and it won't be our last. The beer was good, the service was great, and the food was excellent. Love this place!"

  • "City Tap House - DC was pretty good! I had the French Dip. The bread wasn't too soggy. The mustard was just right! And the duck fat fries - yum! For dessert, I tried the strawberry shortcake. The cake was amazing and the strawberries were prepared very well. The ambience was nice. I went early, but before leaving out, it definitely started to get more crowded and the noise level increased. But that is to be expected around happy hour in DC!"

  • "The food was delicious and the staff was great. They recommended their favorites from the menu and were knowledgeable about their menu. Our server went out of his way to surprise my husband with a slice of cake and a candle for his birthday."

  • "Had lunch on the patio on a nice recent afternoon. The crab and corn hush puppies were a great start, but the grilled chicken BLT was substandard. The bacon was underdone and chewy and the sandwich overall was bland. I like the rosemary fries, but watch out if you're not a fan of the herb because it has a strong presence. The al fresco dining paired with a great waiter helped me overlook the blah mains. I should note that I had the short ribs a few weeks back for dinner and thought it was great, so I guess my bland lunch order deserved its bland results. Spend some time with their draft list and you should leave happy, as long as what you've ordered is still available, although their snifter pours on some brews are a bit pricey."

  • "I ordered the garden fritatta and expected a slice of something cooked up last night. I was astounded when I got a bubbling hot, fresh from the oven and still in the skillet fritatta. It was delicious, the coffee was great, our service was amazing, both fast and friendly. I will absolutely come back! "

  • "Feels like sports bar/brewhouse type of a feel. It can get VERY loud in the bar area or near to it if there is a group hanging out there so this is not for people who want a quieter atmosphere to chat over dinner."

  • "This was our second visit to City Tap House and we were delighted once again with good food, good service and great atmosphere! Anytime we are going to an event at the Verizon Center located just a couple blocks away we will be dining at City Tap House!"

  • "We waited much too long for our server. Then waited much too long for our drinks. Food was slow coming out, but it was good when we finally got it. "

  • "Had a great experience at the City Tap House for Mother's Day . My mom was beyond satisfied with the food and service so I was more than happy . Brunch buffet was a lil pricey , but worth it . I am just upset that my mother and I could not dive in for seconds (stuffed after plate one) but my little brother definitely did ."

  • "For us, the main reason to come was the beer list. It rotates so quickly that they actually just printed the list out on demand, instead of having it pre-made. Both I and my date got a flight, and were quite happy with it. They had a lot of "Oskar Blues" and "Great Divide," which is an excellent sign- I didn't see any boring beers on there. We came for an early dinner, and the food was also good, though the portions were small. My date got the scallops, loved them, but there were only three of them. We definitely left a little hungry. Also, we sat in the back room, which was reasonably quiet. The front room was very loud, and if we'd had to sit there, we would have left because of the noise."

  • "Food was really good, and besides a very runny egg on my flatbread that I had to inquire about before I felt comfortable (even then, confident??) eating, was well paired, prepared, and presented. The corn & crab hushpuppies are not to be missed, esp with the honey butter. Unfortunately for vegetarians, the menu is very meat-heavy - clearly caters to carnivores.... Pescatarians will do okay if they're alright dishing out $26 for a lobster roll or mid-$20s for scallops or other fish fare, but it's a stretch for a business lunch. My flatbread came with some surprise bacon-like topping even after I asked whether there was meat on it (and was told no, just cheese). Ambiance was a bit loud. Still, a flavorfull and fun lunch."

  • "Our sever was incredible and accommodating. We came with a large group for brunch and she had coffee and water on the table for everyone as soon as we were seated. We all ordered bottomless mimosas and our drinks never ran dry! She even allowed us to swap regular juice for the specialty juice of the day. The food was incredible. Everyone enjoyed their dishes and stole bites from the others plates. There wasn't a crumb left at the end! Well done!"

  • "We went for Sunday brunch. The menu had enough variety - some breakfast dishes, some lunch. The salmon hash was delicious; the apple french toast awesome. Lots of noise and activity. The server was attentive and the manager stopped by to ensure we were happy and to thank us for coming. I felt like they were really making an effort."

  • "Decided to try out a new place with friends that were visiting town and was very pleased with our experience. The draft list was extensive, the food delicious (get the mac and cheese - it's fabulous), and it was a great atmosphere for dinner and drinks. The manager stopped by our table to see how things were and offered a few drink as a thank you for bringing in new patrons which I thought was super nice! Will Wheaton was also dining at City Tap House while we were there."

  • "5 words: bacon popcorn and candied peanuts. By far, one of the most ingenious &delectable snacks I've ever had! A must order at City Tap House. As a first time visitor, I wanted to try everything on the menu because it all sounded so good. This is where I really appreciated the focused menu that was still full of options for vegetarians & meat-eaters alike. I had the Tartufo pizza as my entree and it was fantastic - earthy and rustic on a airy, tender crust. My dining partner had the Korean tacos & kale salad. Picking two dishes is an understandable & probably wise choice when you see so many good things. Both were very flavorful & actually complementary dishes. I went for lunch, the service was speedy & friendly. I'll be back very soon!"

  • "We went to brunch here on Easter - City Tap House had only been open for a few months and it was their brunch debut. The brunch was buffet style and was fabulous! They had a special orange, pineapple and banana fresh juice, cold salmon, perfect bacon and the best waffles I have ever tasted! The restaurant is easy to find and is very clean. Not only is the food great but the service was fantastic. Our server Chris was great - friendly, attentive and happy that they were there. Actually every employee we came into contact was glad we were there! The GM came to our table to find out if the music was too loud and to find out what they could improve on for their upcoming Mother's Day brunch. It also looked like that had a lot of beer choices. :)"

  • "I came with three of my friends, three of us ordered pizza and one ordered biscuits and gravy. The Mediterranean pizza was supposed to have a hummus base - there was little to no hummus to be found on this pizza. The pepperoni pizzas (2) both arrived burnt and the sausage in the biscuits and gravy were not cooked all the way through. Appetizers were also ordered - two orders of bacon popcorn - that were overly seasoned and covered in onions. And sweet potato fries were ordered and never arrived at the table. The manager did come out and remove all the appetizers from the bill, which was very nice. Just the overall experience was very poor and I don't think i'll return, nor suggest to my friends to eat/drink here. "
