  • "Interesting menu and great selection of beer. Prices were a bit expensive for a typical brew pub but the variety of interesting dishes offset that a bit. Great ambiance. Definitely worth a try."

  • "Went for Brunch as it was named in Zagat's best new brunches. However food was mediocre at best. Our waiter was very good, very knowledgeable and friendly. Obviously with the name tap house, it is definitely more of a beer place. So might try it for a beer but with so many brunch places in DC, you can skip it for brunch."

  • "I've been to City Tap House 3 or 4 times and it has been great each time. Food is delicious (I've been there for brunch and dinner), and the beer menu is fantastic! I've never been disappointed with any of my food or beverage choices. The bar area has been packed every time I've been there. Attentive service, and the manager has stopped by my table a few times to see how the dining experience was. Only problem I encountered was waiting 20+ minutes for a dessert, but the waiter was very apologetic and the manager came over to apologize and informed us that he took the dessert off the bill. Would definitely recommend this place for happy hour, brunch, dinner, etc."

  • "My date and I enjoyed a fantastic burger that wasn't huge but had huge flavor. And the fries were fantastic too. A beer from the varied selection rounded off a great Saturday meal."

  • "Dined for brunch. Enjoyed the crab and corn hush puppies. They were delicious. Ask for extra citrus remoulade you'll be licking the plate. The chicken and waffles were well seasoned. The perfect portion of pancakes. They were thin almost crepe like. The grits were good as well, warning very cheesy. The mango banana orange juice de jour was good as well."

  • "The spinach salad (with chicken) was the best salad I have ever had. So delicious that I finished every last bite. The wait staff and management were friendly and aimed to make our dining experience very enjoyable. Will definitely visit this establishment again in the near future."

  • "We picked this spot for my friend's birthday dinner on a Thursday night and had a 9pm reservation. We got there around 8:30 the bar was pretty busy, but we found some table space for 10 of us. The bar tender came by right away to take our beer orders and was very responsive/prompt if a beer choice was out (so rare at a bar!). Then one of the managers approached our group and let us know he had the best table in the house for us-- which was ready right at 9. Our waiter was super friendly and another manager even stopped by to welcome us and gave the birthday girl a Fireball shot! We all enjoyed our food (short rib sandwich, crab mac n cheese, salads, and the honey pizza) and I will definitely be coming back!"

  • "We had a group of 8 people and were treated with the "Chef's Table". Fantastic service and the food was excellent. Next time we are in DC we will again visit the City Tap House."

  • "This place is about beer and for those who can enjoy beer with good food. The food menu has a good mix of beef, pork, fish, etc, and it's all quite good. But, the beer menu is well organized and comprised of a good selection. It's not over the top with more beer selections than can be managed, but just right, from a good variety of stouts, pilsners, and everything in between."

  • "Went here with a friend before an early afternoon hockey game. Got the salmon hash from their brunch menu, which was really good. Had a really good spicy Bloody Mary followed by a selection from their impressive beer list. All in all, a really good time."

  • "Loved City Tap House!! Have been twice now and one of those times was for a special birthday. They were very helpful, service was great and the food was super! Many different options to choose from and everything has been wonderful. Will definitely go back!!!"

  • "I love this place. I've been there four times and it's fantastic. The beer list is really outstanding and the food menu has some interesting dishes. It's not the cheapest place around, but it's one of the best and it's well worth it."

  • "I found the service fast, friendly, and truly concerned with our dining experience. The menu provides a wide selection of items to choose from and we will definately be back. Great time for lunch or after work get togethers."

  • "This restaurant is much larger than it looks from the outside, and even from when you first walk in. There was some confusion/delay in getting us the table we reserved, but not really an issue. When seated, service was good, but the server was almost a bit awkward and too overeager (tried to take one person's plate before he even finished) and kept interrupting our convo, although I think that might have just been a desire to please since it's a new restaurant. Flatbreads/truffle honey pizza were delicious."

  • "The food here was great. I had the braised beef rib and my wife the pork collar. We had the corn and crab hushpuppies for an app. All is highly recommended. The beer list is strong with quite a few local favorites."

  • "My friend and I decided to take a "foodie vacation" to DC and really finish off that winter layer of blubber before hitting the gym. City Tap House was conveniently located on the same block as our hotel and after seeing a packed bar area our first night in town we decided to give it a try. The host staff was very pleasant both when we walked in in the afternoon to make a reservation and upon arrival for dinner, as well as when we arrived for our online reservation for brunch. We were seated promptly both times. CTH has a great draft list and does flights of beer which is a great way to try a ton of beers without ending up under the table. Our server was very knowledgeable about the beer list and had great suggestions! Great experiences!"

  • "All the servers are courteous and the general manager even came out to greet us. There was always someone around to fill up our water, coffee, and we were asked if we wanted more beer. Sweet corn and crab hush-puppies FTW! They were so good. Solid food wise and aside from the hush puppies, we ordered the biscuits & gravy, tartufo pizza, and the chicken & waffles. Everything was tasty and our plates were almost licked clean. This gastropub deserves, at the very least, one visit."

  • "Location - nice location and no issues with parking. Food - Absolutely divine!!!! I am still thinking about the pork dish and will be returning soon to have that same dish. Service - All were very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Ambience - good vibe, not too loud and a mixture of people - older & hip, yuppies, professionals - nice mix of people, but not too loud. Would I recommend this place - ABSOLUTELY!!!!"

  • "Found City Tap House to fit with our coming from Baltimore for Sting and Paul Simon. At 6:00 on that Thursday it was very, very lively, but our server was fantastic. The choice of beers and the arrangement of the beer menu was perfect for me, as I'm not a beer aficionado. Each of the small plates we chose were really tasty. Truly excellent."

  • "great for happy hour, the food was delicious and very attentive wait staff. Couldn't have had a better experience. Can't wait to go back to try more food and beer!"

  • "Have been there twice and like the place. Not yet convinced that good bars can also be good restaurants too. Burgers and sandwiches yes, $25.00 plates too? Not sure. Like the vibe there, and especially appreciate the friendly staff and leadership, something the competition should take note of."

  • "Great beer, awesome mussels, decent burger. Selective menu and most items were a bit pricier. The volume in the place was way too loud. I had to scream at the person I was dining with. Seems like a hot spot since it was pretty crowded. Glad I made reservations ahead of time. I viewed the brunch menu, and it seemed pretty decent, but again, pricier than comparable restaurants in the area. Staff was top notch and very attentive!"

  • "Both the food and service were absolutely amazing. The GM, Pierson, was going table-by-table for Sunday brunch talking to all the patrons. My boyfriend and I couldn't decide between cheese grits & cornbread and Pierson said they were both so amazing, that he comped us both of the dishes. Aside from the amazing service, the food speaks for itself. The cornbread, true to the GM's word, was by far some of the best cornbread I've had. The chicken and waffles wasn't too shabby, to boot! Would definitely recommend & will likely be returning!"

  • "We chose City Tap House because it was close to another event that we were attending later in the day, however were very pleased with the beer (both quantity and selection), ambiance, service, and the food. The food came out quickly and in sizeable portions, with the entire group having nothing but positive reactions. One diner indicated that it was the best burger they had ever had. The beer list was rotating, and diverse in selection and had some great beers. Was pleased to see Flying Dog's mango habenero IPA which is in very limited supply! Will certainly be returning soon."

  • "Came to the resturaunt with my girlfriend on an escapade into DC and could not have been happier with the fact that this was our first stop! Excellent beer menu, staff knows exactly what they're talking about and never leave you feeling neglected. The owner Pierson was very hospitable and of course I loved coming for the weekend brunch for bottomless mammosas and beermosas! This spot is great and I would recommend it to anyone that wanted to do a DC venture!"

  • "City Tap House is right smack dab between the Convention Center and Chinatown so your average walker could miss the location. But, because if that, it wasn't too crowed, service was great, the kitchen was fast, and the food was fabulous. I look forward to trying the dinner menu!"

  • "Had a nice time at City Tap House on Saturday night. The beer selection was pretty good, and after a bunch of tasters, I settled on the Samsquatch White IPA from 3 Stars Brewing. I was surprised to find that the menu to catered to my foodie side, and the resulting food actually measured up to expectations. The Foie Grax French Toast was particuarly good. I'll be back for sure."

  • "Overall a decent vibe inside, but too expensive for what you get. The food is just OK - nothing special, but at a much higher price point than it should be. With all of the good restaurants in the area there are a lot better options."

  • "Picked it because of location and reputation (reviews here and on Yelp). Will try to go back."

  • "Went there with my boyfriend. I expected to have a romantic dinner; however, the ambience didn't fit my anticipation. At least, we had good foods."

  • "The look of the restaurant is great, beautiful bar area, but beyond that it leave you wanting. Our server was rushing us through our meal, she would ask us if we needed more time to look over the menu and after telling her we did she would be back 30 seconds latter asking if we were ready. The beer list isn't as extensive as it says online which was disappointing and a lot of the drafts were out. The food did not fit a tap house atmosphere, foodie worthy wording in the menu, but then the taste just wasn't there. Overall I would not go back, great looking restaurant but the service we got (felling very rushed) and the overall experience just left us wanting."

  • "This is a great place for a quick bite before attending an event at the Verizon Center; short walk. The menu is a little different than the average pub; the French toast is very good, but has a heavy lemon zest and the candied pecans stick to your teeth. The waitress was pleasant, but socialized with her co-workers too much and I had to wave her over several times to get her attention. The manager came by a few times, which was a nice. As a new place, he was genuinely interested in ensuring you had a good experience. Give this place a try next time you're in the area."

  • "We arrived at the end of happy hour - the bar was PACKED. Luckily the dining room had more space to breathe. Food was very good, the beers were even better. 3 of had burgers, which were very good. One had a lobster roll - good lobster & duck fat fries, but the bun should have been softer. I had the short ribs special. Very yummy. Not the melty-est, softest short ribs i've had, but still very good and a generous portion. The carrots were unevenly cooked - some were raw. The last friend had the short rib tacos which were excellent. Would love it if the menu had suggested beer pairings - at least for the daily specials."

  • "We tried this new place while in DC for an event at the convention center. They have a great selection of craft beers, nicely organized in a menu with descriptions. We also ate here. The corn and crab hushpuppies were delicious. They reminded me of a fritter, like the conch fritters I have had in the islands. Their mussels were also tastey. Troy and Chris were both very helpful in offering suggestions. We will definitely be back."

  • "A block or two from Verizon, this place is a hidden gem. Based on the food and beer list this place should be packed, but I don't think people have discovered it yet."
